As a prominent figure in his village, Gaston was a very skilled marksman, displaying a high level of proficiency with a bow and arrow, in addition to his mastery of the Blunderbuss, a single shot, muzzle loading fire arm with a short, 54 caliber barrel, which is made from steel and is flared at the muzzle, taking the shape of a trumpet.
The Blunderbuss is a short range weapon and typically uses a set of 100, 54 caliber round lead balls. In terms of melee weapons; Gaston brandished a hunting knife in order to perform short range offensive/defensive tactics. Despite his initial lack of intelligence, Gaston proved he can be very manipulative and cunning, black mailing Belle to take his hand in marriage in addition to persuading the villagers
as thought it was an axe. It would hack away until the head came off. After all the chopping, the blade would often become dull. Throughout the revolution the blade was changed, it became angled. The angling of the blade helped to kill faster. It would not become dull as quickly and it would slice straight through without having to chop. The blade was made from steel and weighed about 40 kgs. To work the blade it was pulled to the top of the contraption then released with the cord to give it a quick reaction. With the quickness of the blade it was estimated that it took about .75th of a second to be guillotined.
He owned a “Tung”, or a pitchfork, and used it for farming. When the vermin came to attack him, he had it with him, and he used it as his weapon. This was the first time he had fought someone else and released his Bloodwrath. Bloodwrath is the anger in battle that most warrior badgers have when the fighting starts. Gorath had used his Bloodwrath before to move enormous boulders after being told he couldn’t do it, as well as using it to take down trees that were in the way. Trisscar Swordmaid, Triss’ full name, uses the Sword of Martin the Warrior. Trisscar Swordmaid escapes to Redwall and is visited by the founder and warrior of Redwall in a dream, since he has been dead for quite some time. He urged her to take up his sword and fight to defend Redwall Abbey and attack Riftgard, her former prison. Trisscar Swordmaid fights to free fellow slaves and protect the citizens of Redwall Abbey. Gorath the Flame fights to revenge the death of his beloved grandparents, protect the citizens of Redwall, and ultimately watch the vermin die for their previous
When comparing the characters we meet in The Oxbow Incident with Erik Baard's list on attributes a cowboy should possess, we find out that there are quite a few discrepancies. The novel as a whole is the story of a group of men who decided to form a lynch mob and go after a group of men who are responsible for murdering a townsman and for apparently stealing cattle from Drew's ranch. The lynch mob sets and tries to track the rebels who are responsible, they come across three men who they have decided are the trouble makers and all in all they decide to hang them men. At the end of the novel we find out that these three men were not the rebels, in fact they were wrongly accused by the mob, and now the mob were murdered because they did kill them wrongfully. The story is full of contradictions on what a cowboy should be, when it is being compared to Baard's list. In Baard's article he had a quote from Bonnie Wheeler who stated, "The idea of the American cowboy is the direct lineal descendant of the chivalric knight." While we could argue that the mob traveling out to find the rebels was brave, it did not make up for them acting as if they were the final law and judgment instead.
Long distance weapons were essential to European combat. The main long distance weapons used by Europeans during that time were the longbow and the crossbow. Each form of weaponry had its unique advantages and their pejorative. The long bow (shown in figure 1) was the original form of distance weapons. The term ‘bow’ means to be made from wood, iron or steel. The Welsh, who inhabited England, were the first people to use longbows. Longbows were 6-7 feet long and had a range of 250 yards, and still had the ability to pierce a knight’s armor (Byam 12). A well trained archer could shot 10- 12 arrows in a single minute. Despite these pro’s the longbow had a lot of disadvantages as well. One draw back was only skilled archers, who were costly to train, could use a longbow. Another disadvantage was it didn’t have a ready loaded arrow (Edge 34). The crossbow (shown in figure 2) on the other had been emphatically different. The crossbow had a span of 2-3 feet and could kill a knight on horseback with one shot, because of good aim (Byam 30). Crossbows had ready loaded projectiles, while the longbow didn’t and the crossbow could be used by anyone since it didn’t require any skill. The crossbow did have a down side though, it had slow reloaded because of a crank and it was expensive. Crossbows were also used for other thi...
In relation to war, the most preferred weapon was the javelin, which could be used for both close combat and long range. The javelin was a highly effective weapon and it ensured that those using it were not easy to defeat. Furthermore, the javelin was often used alongside a shield, which was essential for not only blocking attacks, but also kept the enemy at bay while the javelin was used to strike. 'The horse' was also used but because of having to use both a shield and
Inigo, the fencing Spaniard, is driven because of a horrible tragedy which occurred when Inigo was only 10-years-old. A year before the tragedy, a nobleman asked Domingo Montoya, Inigo’s father, to make him a sword because Domingo was the greatest sword maker in the world. At first Domingo refused, even when he was offered 500 pieces of gold. However, when Domingo discovered that the nobleman had six-fingers on his fencing hand, Domingo became excited. Domingo realized making this particular sword would be a challenge that he would relish.
The arrows used in shooting the longbow were the long and short bodkins. The long bodkin was about four inches tall and three inches wide. These were used for piercing through mail. The long bodkins were not used often because they were expensive to make at around four American dollars to make. Soldiers carried around about 8 of these arrows. The short bodkins were about two inches tall and an inch wide. These arrows were used all the time and were used for piercing through plate armor. These were far less expensive at around four American ce...
The story begins with Guglielmo or the “Hammerhead”, a nickname bestowed to him affectionately by his troops (Bent, 1881)—he sits in his workshop, tinkering with a piece of olivewood, a soft malleable substrate allowing for Guglielmo to make several intricate cuts. While Guglielmo earned his living as a commercial sailor and merchantmen (like many

Chanie Wenjack was an Indigenous boy, who met a terrible fate after running away from a residential school in hopes of reuniting with his father. Chanie had died from exposure to the element and starvation while trying to walk 400 miles back to his home: an isolated reservation in North Ontario. Indian children commonly run away from the residential schools; consequently, they lose their toes, fingers or potential an arm or a leg to the cold. Children occasionally die, however, nobody seems to care predictively because they are Indian. On Sunday afternoon, October 16th, Chanie and his two friends decided to run away. They soon approached a walkway, leading them to a secret trail. Chanie found a map and although he didn’t know how to read English,
