When people think of heroes, they may think of many characteristics. People may go to the level of superheroes, such as the famous Superman and Batman, and for others, it is as simple as the person who helped them carry their groceries earlier that day. Heroes can own many different qualities. In Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick, both Max and Kevin have heroic attributes, yet Kevin is the greater representation of a hero. For one, Kevin defended Max when he was teased for his lack of intelligence, his size, and his relationship with his father. As can be seen on page 76 in Freak the Mighty, Kevin defends his friend from the bullies from yelling and throwing stuff at him by shouting “Order! Order in the court!
