Generation essay introduction

My childhood was mostly spent in Ohio around snow. But it all changed when I moved to California. Frank Conroy’s essay “My Generation”, Conroy explains on how and why his generation got the name “Silent Generation”. In this essay I will be explaining on how my life leads up to college and why the students of 2014 will be remembered by the social media users. What defines an excellent childhood? Childhood is the precious time in which children should live free from fear, go to school, and have fun. My childhood memories mostly take place in New York because that is where I grew up and where the journey started. I didn’t move to California not until I was nine years old. I had a fun adventure going from state to state learning about their history and culture. I still remember on how I used to get up for school and how I came back from school. I still remember how I either played in snow if it was winter or ride my bike if it was summer. My favorite part was going to state fairs only because the state fairs had cotton candy. My childhood evolved mostly around my Nintendo 64 and my Polly Pockets (20+ of them). When I had come to California, I was really shy because I really didn’t know anyone here besides just one family. It was really awkward going to a new school and looking at these people you barely know. In a few months after we had arrived in California, my family and my mom’s family had gone to Disneyland together for the first time. This was my second longest car ride after traveling. It was so fun meeting Disney characters like Minnie mouse, Donald duck, Mickey mouse, and Clarabelle Cow. The scariest part of the trip was the Haunted House. The transition from an elementary school to a middle school is a big deal especia... ... middle of paper ... ...ing their homework assignment and last but least the word processing system helps students who have to write up papers. There are many ways effects that social media has on students not concentrating on age group. According to the in class survey “all eighteen respondents think that social media may have at least some negative effects on some student’s, especially the general effect of distracting them”. There are many reasons but the two main reasons are first of all they can create problems both politically and socially, and the second reason is that they should be only paying attention to their studies. Social media can sometimes effect interfere with the students ability to communicate face to face. According to the survey, the Millennial’s in the class think that their generation will be remembered for their use of social technology and digital technology.
After reviewing the article,“The Epidemic of Media Multitasking While Learning” By Annie Murphy Paul, it can be concluded that the author believes that most students cannot learn or do any homework related assignments without the usage of social media. With believing that most students cannot focus long enough on an assignment without using social media it provides evidence behind the author’s theory. Thus, with these certain types of studies it leads the author into believing that media multitasking shortens the focus of students in today’s society. Throughout the article, the author supports her main points by utilizing studies that proves her main point. By the author providing multiple examples of the research studies done on students
I believe my concept of childhood was, in large part, formed by the way I was raised. My older sister and I were raised by a single mother in a small town in country Victoria. My mother is a socialist and feminist and I think that these beliefs informed her decisions on how to treat her children, choosing to treat us as capable individuals and allowing us to make, or at least have input into making, decisions about our bodies, our activities outside of school, and our lives in general. When reflecting on how I see children and childhood, I believe that my view of children as capable, confident, and independent, and my belief that childhood should be fun and free is due to the environment I grew up in.
A childhood is the delicate phase of every adolescent's life where they must mature into their own person, with their own responsibilities. Although every individual will eventually bloom with their own personality, morals, and perspectives, the education and values we learn and see along the way add to the fingers that mold. We begin when we are born, and are taken in by strangers. These priceless people show us love, and just how strong attachments can be. Family ties snare us in their loving webs and become the support network to catch us throughout our youthful falls. They are our first real pictures of people, and their actions and emotions immediately become examples.
In my opinion, childhood has drastically changed from what I remember growing up to what it is today. The word childhood, to me, means innocence, having an imagination, being creative, and having freedom. Over 20 years ago, children were safer, there was more of a sense of community, technology barely existed, and children had better manners. Children played outside more due to the freedom of those
Purpose of Study Individuals should understand that the use or nonuse of social media has negative and positive effects on their lives, whether they recognize them or not. Students who excessively use social networking applications can be negatively affected because they are spending too much time on these applications rather than paying attention in class, completing homework, studying, sleeping, or focusing on their own health and condition. However, these same students who are excessive users are often times the students who are more aware of global issues and updates in pop culture through the use of social media. Students who moderately use social networking applications spend a good amount of time on these applications and are still able to manage time for sleeping, practicing good eating habits, homework, and studying. These students are usually just as aware, or slightly less aware, than students who excessively use social networking.
Many experts have observed students affected negatively from ICT in their education, which shows through their work. According to “Pros and Cons of Using ICT in Reading and Writing” published by International Education Studies, the authors discuss a teacher regarding the pessimistic side of technology, “Students use too much ICT tools, they tend to use a lot of short forms like ‘cos’ to mean ‘because’, ‘ur’ to mean ‘your’ and many others. They also like to use this SMS language in their essay writing” (Yunus et al. 126). When responding to a question or other blogs online, students use this type of SMS language to replace words because they use it frequently in texting and it seems easier for the student. Furthermore, the internet is a major distraction to students; therefore, it has the ability to take up their time for academic purposes while online. Students might be distracted by other aspects of the web when they are on the internet (Yunus et al. 128). Additionally CBC News reports, “It is more common to surf the internet at school [and] reading skills declined between 2000 and 2012” (“Technology in the Classroom…”). As a result of this interruption from educational work, reading and writing levels can decrease; although, other aspects of technology can increase student

Childhood is the time in our lives when we are carefree and have the rest of our lives in front of us. It's the time when we learn most of life's lessons and our minds develop free of judgement, sponging up any and every experience as a dry canvas soaks up paint. The child in whom I chose to observe is a girl who is around the age of 6 and is just now really starting to discover the joys of life. Watching this innocent, bubbly, happy girl actually took me back to a time in my life I haven't reflected on in many years. It reminded me how amazing it was to have the rest of my life in front of me and how almost all experiences were brand new.
Technology affects everyone! Whether positive or negative, we are all affected, how it manifests itself into problems for youth will be studied and debated for years. Balancing technology throughout the educational process and keeping with current trends and uses of technology will affect everyone. Technology has transformed our youth’s daily and social lives. How do we measure the effects of technology on our ability to socialize or have a successful social life? Socializing is not just talking face to face, it’s our ability to interact, learn, and create original thought. Technology hindering today’s youth and their ability to socialize is affecting their capacity to read, write, and communicate. Today’s youth depends on careful considerations for the implementation of technologies. Our youth do not have the capability to convey their emotions through the use of technology, understand sadness, happiness or joy through simple text or emails. Communicating through the use of text, chat, and social network sites is lost using abbreviations and slang, inhibiting the use of the Standard English language. Using computers and hand held devices for relationships, reading, writing, and entertainment, turning them into introverted and socially inept individuals. Current trends resonating from our educational institutions to our workplace can be examples of how technology has altered the way younger people communicate. This tragedy transcends from youth to adulthood affecting the workplace. Social networking sites have begun to take hours away from employers. How do students understand ethical and moral dilemmas unless they are allowed to make mistakes and work through a particular problem? Creative and original thought needs...
