Written by Jamie Ford, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet follows the life of Henry Lee, a young Chinese-American boy living in Seattle in the 1940’s during World War II, and his reflections on his youth later, in the 1980’s. The novel illustrates the theme that loyalty is important in times of hardship. Henry deals with both loyalty and the absence of it as he copes with his broken relationship with his father, his forbidden, but strong friendship with a Japanese girl, Keiko, and his awkward connection with his son.

For years men and women alike have wondered the same question, that is, “Why do girls become strippers?” Well, there are three main reasons. The first reason being the opportunity for monetary gain to better their future. In Ganttageep's article, “Exotic Dancing: Illusion and Fantasy, An Exotic Dancers Path to Power”, he shows this desire for money in this following quote, “When asked why they got into the world of exotic dancing many women state that money is the main reason,” (Ganttageep.) In addition, there own personal desires play a huge role in their life changing decision. Finally, previous experiences in life and their skills and attributes greatly affect girls in their decision to become strippers.

The mission is a very important of California's history and culture. The mission is funded by a non-profit organization, and the preservation is very good. The whole place is clean, beautiful and well kept. All the missions represent a large part what California was like before it became a state. Many people ignore the fact that California had a large and rich culture before it was a state. The mission itself receives more then a half-million visitors each year, meaning it beings a great source of economic income to the community. The mission is a wonderful visit and I recommend everyone to go at least
The one response that Kathrine heard many times is that the strip club is relaxing for the men. There were many different categories on why men felt this way, “a strip club provided entertainment and leisure, an atmosphere different from both work and home, a relative degree of “safety” as well as “excitement”, and an opportunity for both personal and sexual acceptance from women” (87). The men notice how talking to the dancers is different from talking to their male friends. Brett mentioned how he saw on a television show that a guy told a group of friends how quick he is in the sack and the men responded that it happens to everyone once in a while to try and comfort him

This sweeping remark on the life and times of female strippers was extracted from a popular Washington, D.C. magazine called DC One, which focuses on the dining, entertainment, and nightlife featured in D.C. This particular issue was dubbed "The Men's Issue," and contained an exposé on stripping in "gentlemen's clubs." The quotation above demonstrates the tension that exists in the world of stripping, both within the private world of the strippers themselves, as well as in the public perception of this occupation. Is stripping empowering for women? Or, is it purely objectifying, and does it serve only the interests of the men who are the viewers and the consumers? The comment above would suggest that the money and accolades that these women receive creates a mutually exploitative situation; one that is beneficial for both parties involved, albeit in a different manner. But then the writer second-guesses herself, forging ahead to say: "But how far will it stretch before they fall victims to their own universe?" (DC One, 37). What is this "universe" and is it ultimately as damaging as the author might imagine? Although the article does little to respond to this issue, many decades of researchers have attempted to look at this and other questions surrounding the occupation of stripping. The results of the studies have been varied and suggest that there is no one way to view either the strippers themselves or the clients who access this service.
What you may not know is that strippers don’t always sleep with clients, and any sexual activity that goes beyond a lap dance doesn’t happen in the club either, even in VIP rooms. It usually depends on the type of club and the clientele they cater to.
...lly dancers have to love the dance, because for all that work, dancers get little money—workshops with master dancers usually cost around seventy-five dollars, costumes average five hundred dollars each, and dancers are usually paid only fifty dollars for two and a half hours of work. But Belinda Shakar cannot imagine her life without dance: “I’ve gone through so many careers, but I’ve always stuck with belly dance. I’ve just been doing it for so long.” From dancing, she has found freedom in being in touch with her body and the healing powers of movement. She is now working as a massage therapist, helping others free up their bodies as well. For her, dance is about enjoying her body and expressing her sensuality, not entertaining others or making money. So she is not at all concerned about making it to the top. Besides, she says, “in belly dancing, there is no top.”
