Six flags is a company that has 29 theme parks with a Chief Corporate Engineer, Larry Chickola. Larry overseas all the projects for the parks and has teams of engineers that help take care of technical issues and building and construction. All six flags projects have a comprehensive plan for completing the work in a timely fashion. They have written statements as to what work is to be done and dated schedules for completion. It started with their launch concept, which they used a diagram showing the hydraulic launch system. The design was next. So they drew out how they wanted the roller coaster to look. After this, equipment starts arriving for them to begin their project. Six Flags used careful control monitoring for all their resources, and skillful managers who could meet the demands of this project. They did a great job at using their time management so when construction for clearing the site began for this project, so did the process of making the tubular steel supports that made up the rides and the cars that would carry the guests. Having their project data chart, work schedule and work statements so that everything was clearly marked with how long different tasks were going to take is very important in creating a new project, and the organization Six Flags had while making Kingda Ka was done well so that they would stay within their deadlines and within their

In 1961, the US Freedom Rides was quite a significant event that is still remembered by many Americans and African-Americans today. It was the time when racial discrimination and segregation had existed and has had an immense effect and impact on African-Americans. Yet, it had ended after a lot of hard work protesting, campaigning in different areas of America and thanks to some key events that had also helped along with these including the Birmingham Campaign and Martin Luther King Jr’s activism. This event of the United States however is a lot similar to events that had occurred in Australia at the time and is considered to be an inspiration to Aboriginal activism and protest in Australia. Project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to project activities in order to meet project requirements (PMBOK Guide, 2008). Using this definition, it is made evident that the parties involved in the Denver International Airport (DIA) Baggage System project in the 1990’s failed at applying basic organizational practices towards managing the triple constraint of scope, time, and cost goals. The combination of inherent risks, uncertainties, and dysfunctional decision making geared the project towards disappointment while simultaneously designating it as a text book example of what not do when taking on a complex project. By looking at the key strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats we can pull together a basic plan of action that would have set the DIA’s baggage handling system as a marvel model of rapid automation.
The following paper analyzes the Whitbread World Sailboat Race case scenario presented at the end of chapter 9 in the Gray and Larson text, Project Management: the Managerial Process. The project encompasses two main objectives; one, design, build and test a new vessel, and two, select and train a crew capable of winning the race. Both objectives must be completed within 45 weeks, the start of the race, and with a planned budget of $3.2 million.
Franklin Electronics won the contract because they had the lowest price. They developed a work breakdown structure that consisted of 45 work packages, with 4 of the work packages being delivered in the first 4 months. They also developed a simple status report consisting of the work packages due, budgeted cost for work scheduled, budgeted cost for work performed, actual cost for work performed, cost variance and price variance. When they deliver the first status report, the Franklin Electronics project manager is called into an emergency meeting because Spokane Industries vice president is unhappy with the progress. In this paper, we will discuss Six Sigma process improvement for tracking time and cost, recommendations on how Franklin Electronics can use project management principles to meet their goal of improving efficiency and empowering management to make better and informed decisions through the use of Earned Value Management, how an effective Earned Value Management System contributes to organizational effectiveness, and how Franklin Electronics can share best practices across the organization.
When carnival was created it was a day for the peasants to have freedom to do what they wanted to the kings and the hierarchy above them, but my question is why did the kings take it to heart? If what the Kings do to the peasants on a daily basis is not accepted when it is done to them on the day of carnival, then why do it at all?
Arizona has first been explored by a European in 1539. In this year, Marcos de Niza, from Spain, explored parts of the area of Arizona. There was a legend about the wealthy seven cities of Cibola; seven cities that would be in possession of valuable treasures. Marcos de Niza was informed about Cibola by an Indian informer. When de Niza returned from his exhibition, he claimed he had seen de Seven Cities of Cibola in the distance.
Comparing the size of Disney’s theme parks to that of a shopping store this can be a little harder to accomplish. Each area of the theme park must be broken down and managed, like different departments within a department store, only on a much larger level. When the theme park will open, when shifts will start and end, how many street vendors will be in the park and where, and how long rides will last. These are all things that need to be planned so the company can reach a larger goal. So how Disney’s theme parks are managed would be part of their operational strategy.
