Introduction The main character of the movie Forrest Gump, also known as Forrest Gump was a male whose occupation was a Sergeant Philanthropist in the Vietnam War. His mother, Mrs. Gump who raised him often rented out rooms to travelers in their large home and his father was absent during his life, known to be on a “vacation”. His mother claimed to have named him Forrest as a reminder that in life all people do things that sometimes make no sense. He was also named after a Civil War Confederate General known as Nathan Bedford Forrest, who was also the first Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan. Forrest was born with strong legs but a crooked spine and was unwillingly placed in leg braces to wear throughout his childhood. He had been discharged from the army after receiving a wound to the “buttocks” and is given a medal of honor. Forrest was known to have a low IQ by his principal at school and was denied access to attend the school until his mother took it upon herself to make sure he would be a student at the school. She slept with the principal of the local school which then made him reconsider his decision of letting Forrest attend. Forrest’s mother was a massive impact on his comfortability. She often reminded him not to allow anyone to tell him he was different from the rest. He was portrayed as autistic when trying to interact with others. Autism also known as Autism Spectrum Disorder is defined as a development disorder that impairs the ability to communicate and interact (“Autism Speaks”, 2013). This condition cannot be cured and can be present from childhood. As a child, Forrest experienced problems with motor functions, causing his doctor to misdiagnose him for having scoliosis and enforcing him to wear a leg
