humble “If you are humble, nothing will touch you, neither praise, nor disgrace, because you know who you are.”-Mother Teresa. A significant heroic quality is the act of being humble. Forrest Gump, the main character of the movie, Forrest Gump directed by Robert Zemeckis, shows absolute humbleness throughout his long journey of life, Mahatma Gandhi showed true humbleness, not to forget my dad; one of the most humble people I know. This trait of unpretentiousness is seen in Forrest when he helped an African-American women. Back then, racism was considered absolutely normal in Alabama. Gandhi, a noble freedom fighter, helped everyone and anyone he could, whether they were noble or poor. Also, my dad, showed great vibes of humbleness when he always put others before himself. There is a small spark of a humble …show more content…
To begin with, Mister Forrest Gump has shown humbleness throughout his life. The first time he showed humbleness in the movie was less than 10 minutes into the film. This was when Forrest conversed, “My momma always said…” This phrase is repeated multiple times throughout the movie. It may sound useless, but is shows a lot. It shows the representation of ‘momma’. ‘Momma’ is showing the wisdom that Forrest never believed he had. This displays how humble Forrest is. Rather than calling himself smart and following his own rules, Forrest followed the rules and principles his momma told him to. This is just one big example of how Mr. Gump showed a pure humble attitude throughout the film. The second point in the exceptional film was when Forrest helped an African-American women by picking up a book she dropped. This shows the amount of humbleness in Forrest. The way it took place is as follows. Forrest walked to the front of school where he saw a big crowd. He asked his friend what was going on and he replied that black people want to go to
To begin with, Mahatma Gandhi was a man who stood up for the less fortunate people in the world. In passage one, it states that “ Mahatma Gandhi didn’t have to walk endless miles and go without eating for days.” The text is stating that , He didn’t have to abandon his daily life to declare to the world. He chose to stand up for the populations and tell them what was right. It also states that, he grew up in a rich and wealthy family. This
Forrest doesn’t know or care about what’s going on half the time and he just blissfully floats around like a feather in the breeze. He does what he’s told without asking questions. It is clear that fate is in control when one simply goes with the flow, blindly fallowing the path all their life and usually unintentionally or unknowingly helps countless people and also ends up with everything he could ever want. It all started when Jenny told him to run away from those bullies and he ran right through a football game and so started his playing football in high school, which is how the Army discovered him. He met Bubba in the Army and promised him that they would start a shrimping business together. Forrest saved Lieutenant Dan’s life and they ended up being very successful business partners. They gave a lot of the money they made to Bubba’s family so they wouldn’t have to work to barely scrape by all their lives. Forrest also gave Elvis ideas for dance moves and sparked inspiration for the famous “shit happens” bumper stickers and smiley face t-shirts. Although Jenny comes and goes throughout the movie, in the end they get married and have a son together.
In the beginning of the movie the audience knows that there is something wrong with Forrest Gump. He talks to strangers as if they were a friend, and had braces as a child. The audience also learns that he has an IQ
It is a great example of how persevering through life’s obstacles can make life even better than before. Being different creates many challenges for Forrest, however, he shows inner strength as he fights through these challenges. Along with this, Forrest Gump shows how having support while trying to escape a dark path will make success easier. Therefore, the movie reveals that life will not always be perfect, but it is important to persevere through the adversity that it is filled with. Ultimately, no matter the circumstances, any obstacle can be
Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “If humanity is to progress, Gandhi is inescapable… We may ignore him at our own risk.” King cited Gandhi as one of his biggest inspirations, which should come as no surprise, as Gandhi helped end racism towards as many if not more people than King himself. Gandhi pioneered the use of what he called satyagraha, or political change through nonviolence, and helped bring millions of India’s oppressed to equality. Lord Mountbatten, the last British ruler of India, is quoted as saying, “Mahatma Gandhi will go down in history on a par with Buddha and Jesus Christ.” There is no denying the truth in this statement because of the way he had a profound impact on the lives of those around him, just like these other two famous figures of history. Gandhi may have been very small man, relatively speaking, but he grew to be a giant in the eyes of the world.
Fitzgerald shows us in the novel The Great Gatsby that the American Dream is a illusion of greed and pride. One good example of this is seen in the novel when In Chapter one of The Great Gatsby Nick ,Our main protagonist, relates a proverb from his father told him, “ Just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the Advantages that you've had” (Fitzgerald 5). This is important because in the 1920’s the expectations of the American Dream contradicts itself by trying to live a wealthy and successful life while maintaining equality. It shows the reader that the truth of the matter is equality and the American dream are unrealistic and unattainable due to the fight to gain a higher position of wealth and power by dragging others below
Mohandas Gandhi’s existence in this world inevitably changed it forever. There is no denying this. A man that came from beginnings that would have made change unfathomable, not only stood above the standards of his society, but also joined many others in his quest for a more equal and peaceful system. Not only, did he make an impact in his situation, but he set the standard for generations to come on what the process looks without war and fighting to bring about a massive change in laws and treatment of people. His methods were not only effective for himself, but those that would model his behavior for future endeavors.
Saving the world is the typical image of being a hero. However, in actuality that is not how it works. Heroism does not always mean that other people will realize what was done and actually be thankful for it. Even then, the ‘heroes’ might not even want the recognition for the actions they have taken. Also, there are other things to consider when deciding that someone is a hero or not, such as determining if they were obligated to do a certain action. In order to categorize someone as a hero they need to be selfless and do things because they want to. They are courageous, have outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Being a hero does not mean it is done in gratitude or by requirement.
Not everybody can be a hero. In fact, it is very difficult to become one. However, in some cases, the traits of heroism will shine through and these people will make a difference. It is not necessary for those people to have superpowers or fight a villain, all that is needed is a bit of courage, bravery and an act of altering society. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the theme of heroism is prominent in life in which ordinary people can be heroes is posed. This theme is shown throughout the novel in the characters Atticus Finch, Dolphus Raymond, and Arthur Radley.
Forrest Gump is one of those great films that brings out all kinds of emotions. The opening scene is the most symbolic of the entire movie. The white feather floating and eventually falling next to Forrest Gump’s feet, sets the stage for a story to be told by Forrest. The lighting is natural, as Forrest sits on a bench at a bus stop. The music starts and the lighting gets brighter, as to draw in the audience’s attention to something that is about to happen (Boggs & Petrie, 2008). The setting is just an ordinary city in Savannah, Georgia (Zemeckis & Roth, 1994). Forrest picks up the feather and places it in his Curious George book. The white feather represents the innocence and purity of Forrest Gump. The bus stop is where Forrest initiates the storytelling and continues to tell his life story to each and every person he comes in contact with at the bus stop. Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) is a mentally challenged man (Zemeckis & Roth, 1994). Tom Hank’s performance is so believable and outstanding. He’s dressed in a suit in the sultry heat of Georgia, but the setting on the bench is shaded as the sun is shining in the background. The camera stays on Forrest and moves over to each individual he’s talking to for their reaction. Forrest is so intrigued with his own life that he doesn’t really care what the other people think as he continues on with his story telling. Forrest knows a lot about the world from his perspective but not necessarily from reality. The theme of Forrest Gump is how life’s obstacles can be overcome by how one perceives them.
There are people who truly make an effort to do right for people and on occasion the deeds of the people who try to do right go unappreciated. If you read about Nick’s father in “Indian Camp” by Ernest Hemingway, Brently Mallard in “The Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin, and Mrs. Mitty from “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” by James Thurber.
...nd genuine kindness extend further than just treating the President of the United States like a normal person, even though Forrest Gump is ignorant of the ‘issues’ of different people. At the University of Alabama, two African American students are granted acceptance after an enormous ordeal on blacks going to colleges with whites because of the insane amount of racism the United States of America had. As the two African American students made their way up the staircase, one dropped a book and Forrest rushed through police officers and rioters to pick up the book and hand the book to the colored student who dropped it. Forrest’s ignorance definitely contributes to his selflessness and generosity towards people who are different (during the time period in American history the movie was based on), however, it is one of his traits that makes him a true unexpected hero.

Benegal’s Gandhi is not Attenborough’s ‘saintly’ Gandhi; rather he only strives to be the latter. Benegal’s Gandhi is a bright, hopeful young lawyer who came to South Africa to earn a living. He is neither great nor saintly but he is courageous enough to stand for the right cause. This movie gives a glimpse into the making of a great man; he was not born great but he achieved greatness by adhering to the simple human values. It is an intimate account of the life of Gandhi who worked hard and gave many sacrifices to become a leader. The wife, Kasturba and son, Harilal were the constant reminders of his human side and he learnt that to follow the right path he must give away whatever little he holds dear to himself. Since Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi is the human counterpart of Mahatma Gandhi, and the movie makes the former its prime subject. Shyam Benegal in an interview said, “It is the young Gandhi we don’t know”. Mahatma Gandhi is known to all with due regard to Attenborough’s film production, the human side of Gandhi which is safely omitted by the director is little known. Benegal’s sees these twenty one years spanning from 1893-1914 as crucial since these were the years Gandhi spent as a human who longed to find his purpose in life, these were the experiments that made him the Mahatma
Another illustration that makes a leader a great leader is Mahatma Gandhi. He was a man who inspired Martin Luther King Jr. A famous quote from Mahatma Gandhi states, “In a gentle way, you can shake the world.” Also, “Men often become what they believe themselves to be. If I believe I cannot do something, it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe I can, then I acqu...
