I find The Forces of Development Model to be an accurate representation of how individuals develop. The model seems to capture all of the factors that contribute to who a person becomes and what their values and beliefs are. Biological forces, that includes genetics and health factors, are extremely critical to life and development. Speaking to the impact of biological forces on my life so far, I today have typical overall good health because of the concern of my parents and physicians during my birth. Born premature by almost five weeks, my development was watched with great anxiety for the first few years of my life. Often, our background and community and put our growth into perspective. In my case, being a part of a large family-like community growing up, I feel that I am happy and thriving when I have such a support system similar to the one I had growing up in my neighborhood. Lastly, just as the model suggests, development, as assessed by various professionals in different careers, should be studied in a multidisciplinary way. For example, government policies that affect healthcare should be formed and reviewed by career professionals including politicians, medical doctors, financial advisors, psychologists/sociologists, and others with relevant expertise. While my ultimate goal is to be physician, I hope to integrate health policy, while keeping in mind the things that I have learned and researched as a psychology student. I believe patients are more than just their genetics. What intrigues me most about individual development and behavior is the interaction between a person’s biology and their psychological state. I have come to realize that all of these forces work together to shape the development of an individual. Health care professionals should approach development analysis in a multidisciplinary
