Has a situation arise causing procrastination to occur and an important paper or project was due the next day? As a result starting the paper by using sources sounds very nice, but one of the sources fits in the paper perfectly, so as a shortcut using control C and control V quickly puts the passage into the project, however denying to put the sentences and or paragraph into the paper but forget to give credit to the source? Well, if so, that is plagiarism. Plagiarism is taking someones elses work and not giving the original source credit. Plaginzing is like when someone scores a touchdown during a football game and someone else on the team taking the credit and recognition. One example of plagiarism is called Direct Plagiarism, Direct Plagiarism is directly taking a sentence or paragraph from someone else's work and not giving the credit. An example of direct plagiarism is by the famous musician Johnny Cash. Mr. Cash recorded the song “Folsom Prison Blues” which was released in 1968, however Cash had stolen the rhythm and much of the lyrics from the Gordon Jenkins song “Crescent City Blues” which was released in 1953. The last example of direct plagiarism is by Martin Luther King Jr. “After his wife donated King’s papers to the Stanford University King Papers Project, the group organizing the papers learned that portions of his earlier writings, including his doctoral thesis, were taken from other authors.” (Plagiarism Today.com) However this didn’t affect him because the allegations came out after his death. Self-plagiarism may seem a little silly, but it can cause very serious negative side effects that can ruin the whole paper that is being written or even result in even worse side effects. An example of self-plagiarism is writing a paper in 10th grade that has a topic that is very similar to a topic you had in 9th grade, and you notice that your 9th grade paper hits all the beats that are needed for the 10th grade paper. After noticing this you use exact 9th grade paper and turn it in. A weird example of self-plagiarism is when a sports athlete is accused of using drugs and has to be tested. But the athlete doesn't want to be caught so the athlete pees into a cup and stores it for later use, and when the day of the drug test comes around the athlete pours his old but clean pee into the cup that gets tested.
