Importance of Following Instructions Paying attention, following instructions, and listening are some of the most important skills you will need to get through life and especially a career or school. Not having these particular skills could result in some consequences in your life. So you should always take careful steps and know what you are supposed to do and what is best. The world would be in complete chaos if no one ever followed instructions. This is why rules and laws are made, so our world can run smoothly and become a better place. The same principles apply to the classroom and school. In order for the classroom to be a good learning environment it has to have organization.

It is also very disrespectful to the teacher. A minor consequence that can happen is the teacher will say something to you but it can also be embarrassing. The teacher could also talk to you after class or call your parents. But not paying attention in class affects you the most when what the teacher is saying is about a certain assignment. You could end up not knowing what to do on that assignment. This in turn could affect your grade. Also if you don't follow direct instructions from the teacher it is very possible to do things wrong. Sitting still will help with focusing and not being disruptive. Being engaged in the conversation is also helpful with focusing and it lets the teacher know you care about what they are talking about. It is also important for you to try your best to avoid any distractions that could cause you to lose focus.
