Fog Short Story

Fridays were always long days for me since I started attending college. I had to drive to an outer town to get to my parent’s house. It was usually a long, boring and energy-waster trip. This time, it was late at night. It was very quiet, dark and foggy. I was speeding down the road from college because I was tremendously tired and wanted to get some rest at home already. Actually, I had never driven through this route before. A friend suggested this shortcut earlier and I thought I should try it out. This route’s path was so straight it felt like it would get me directly to my parent’s house. However, it was awfully foggy. Despite of having my headlights on, it was very difficult to see because of the fog. The fog was so intense it felt like I was cutting my way through it with the lights, as if I was cutting my way through tall grass with a blade. In the same manner that the pressure of water increases with depth, the fog seemed to get thicker and thicker as I went through it. I had to slow down because I almost could not see anything. I was speeding through the fog with zero visibility while talking on the phone and I hit somebody! I started to formulate excuses for what just happened. I did this until a horrifying thought came to me. “I might have just killed someone!” I screamed. I hung up on whoever called me and climbed out of the car. I started to just punch numbers in the touch screen trying to get help. I did this so strong I could have pierced the phone. I looked around for the body to check if whomever I just hit was still alive, but the fog did not let me see well. Someone picked up, finally. “I just hit somebody with my car! It was so foggy and very dark and I could not see! I think I killed somebody! I might have killed a man! Help! I do not know what to do!” I shouted. I kept looking for the body while trying to explain the situation, but I could not find it anywhere. The person on the other end did not say anything,
