What is a flash Drive? Well a USB Flash drive is a memory storage device that is plugged into a computer or other mobile devices. Flash Drive also called Thumb drives are very convenient for users, they are small and light weight and have a memory storage ranging from 512MB to 64Mb. (Gary B. Shelly).Most flash drives are removable and rewriteable. USB Flash drives are typically used for backups or transfers of computer files. Flash drives consist of small printed circuit boards carrying circuit elements, and USB connecters that are installed electorally, and are protected by plastic, metal, and sometimes a rubberized case. The USB connecter is usually protected by a removable cap that connects to the drive. Power is drawn from computer when the USB flash drive is connected. When connected users can then access whatever has been backed up or transferred to the Flash drive.
Optical discs! What are optical discs? An optical disc is a flat round portable metal disc with plastic coating. CDs, DVD, and BLU-RAY discs are three types of optical discs. (Gary B. Shelly). This memory is assists in allowing the computer to simultaneously read and write data at the same time. Simply put, RAM is the most common form of memory that is utilized by computers as well as other devices. There are specific types of RAM that include dynamic random access memory and static random access memory, or DRAM and SRAM respectively. These two RAM are very different in terms of how they allow data to be read and written. Dynamic random access memory is often considered the most frequent type found in computers. Static random access memory is also found in computer, and is usually referred to as the faster of the two types due to the fact that refreshing of this form of memory is not needed whereas with dynamic random access memory it is. The term RAM is often used to describe what the computer uses to function. It is the main memory or primary memory whereby all processes and software run. All these events can be remembered by the people who experienced it due to flashbulb memory. Flashbulb memories were defined by R. Brown and J. Kulik (1977) as vivid, detailed, and long-lasting memories for attributes of the reception context of public news (Curci, A., & Lanciano, T., 2009). The people who experience such huge events are certain that their flashbulb memories are very accurate and can give in detail what occurred to them in those events (Schwartz, 2013). Furthermore events that generate flashbulb memories are usually very surprising and emotionally arousing and are perceived by the subject as personally consequential (Emotion & Memory 1993). But not all memories need to be negative and tragic. Events like the first day of first grade, your first romantic kiss, your first day at a new job, or recital of your wedding vows can also be described as flashbulb memories (Schwartz, 2013).

This is a prime example of flashbulb memory. Flashbulb memory is a term that pertains to a person’s memory of hearing about extremely shocking events (Goldstein, 2011, p. 209). Flashbulb memory is not the memory for the event itself, but it’s the memory of how the person heard about the specific event (Goldstein, 2011, p. 209). This means that a flashbulb memory includes where you were and what you were doing when you found out about a tragic event (Goldstein, 2011, p. 209). Some key attributes of flashbulb memories are that they are both remembered for long periods of time and are exceedingly vivid (Goldstein, 2011, p. 209). A great way to describe flashbulb memories is to compare them to a photo that never fades, proving how relevant these memories are to those who have them (Goldstein, 2011, p. 209).

In psychology we learned that you are never fully able to “vividly” recall memories, and that often times the memories you do recall are inaccurate. While I do not doubt my professor and her expert knowledge in her field, I truly do feel that there are a few memories I can vividly remember with precise detail. Flashbulb memories are the closest we can get to reliving an event, but even then these memories, while often referred to as “vivid” for lack of a better word, are still not completely accurate. The flashbulb memories I have of my favorite place feel factual rather than misconstrued, I know for a fact that these events happened, and it feels just as real as if they happened yesterday, but I am aware that logically I cannot know for sure

Myers in Psychology in Modules, said that stressful events create unforgettable memories and weaker memories create weaker memories (326). Very stressful events can cause flash-bulb memories which are vivid. Flashbulb memories are good because of the confidence we have in them and they are clear, but Myers said that "these memories may come to err" (326). The question this week is if emotion does influence memories, are they reliable?
