What is a form factor (both motherboard and computer case)? A form factor is the configuration of the actual computer hardware object. The size of the configuration is also taken into consideration typically. When discussed in the context of software, computer techs tend to remark that the form factor is the amount of memory associated with the program where it needs to run effectively (White & Downs, 2007). Technicians assert that form factors assist in preventing incompatibilities between specific hardware that operates within a computer. In other words, a Dell form factor will not work with an HP form factor. What is a Field Replaceable Unit (FRU)? According to Intel (1999), FRUs or field replaceable units are used to offer information …show more content…
on the inventory about the motherboard. The objective here is that field replaceable unis provide information that allows software to be read effectively. All field replaceable units have what is referred to as an FRU Information Device that yields the version number or part number of the particular software. The FRU Information Device when discussed is divided into six areas that include: the common header, which houses the overall format specification information and helps to offset the other areas of information. The other areas of information are not always available due to the specific device application and when this occurs, it is noted as null or not present. In addition to the common header, there is also the internal use area, which "provides private, implementation-specific information storage for other devices that exist on the same FRU as the FRU Information Device" (p.1). The Chassis Info Area is another area of the FRU Information Device that holds the part number, serial number as well as system chassis. The board info area contains other pertinent information and also contains the part number and serial number also. The product information area, will be available if the FRU is separate from everything else. Finally, there is a multirecord information area that holds the record information and formats associated with the headers (Intel, 1999). In sum, the field replaceable unit is an informative component that assists in helping to identify a particular hardware device. How do you calculate what size/power supply you should use for a PC? In order to calculate the size and power needed for a PC, the computer user needs to use a power supply calculator. Power Supply Calculator (2014) notes that the calculator usually works through the use of calculating the computer's thermal design power, which is received from the system's main parts (p.1). It is important to note that the calculations are only predictions or rather a rough estimate as opposed to the actual power. This, however, is the most accurate data that can be gleaned in such calculations. What are the most current CPU’s offered in modern computers and describe what a dual core and a quad core CPU is and how they work. When consumers are considering a new CPU processor, it becomes important to look at the various aspects associated with them.
Most computer technicians argue that Intels are some of the best on the market for both budget and performance, however, there are others that are just as good. The following is a list of some of the best CPUs currently available. Bourgie (2014) writes that in addition to Intel, that Vishera is a quality brand and Kaveri also (p.1). Consumers should look at various websites and consumer reviews to determine the best CPU to purchase and to also understand as much as possible the most compatible with their system. Weighing the pros and cons is recommended in all instances, particularly because of the fact that CPUs can be quite …show more content…
costly. Bourgie (2014) goes on to state what consumers should be looking for with respect to the pros of a CPU. These components include: price, video card, how much power is being consumed as well as the performance. In addition to this, over locking capability should also be considered and whether it is a dual core or quad core CPU (p.1). It becomes important to explain what a dual core and quad core CPU are and how they work. In understanding dual core along with quad core processors, what seems to be discussed the most is how fast the system runs. Some users argue that dual core processors provide faster function, but that quad cores allow for multiple tasks to be performed at once. Thus, coming to the conclusion on which is best is a user decision. Quad core processors provide more power than dual core and this translates to more efficiency in computer use and minimal impeding of programs and processes that are running. Moreover, quad core processes improve the overall operating system functionality. This does not mean that dual cores aren't worth it. As one might assume, dual cores tend to be cheaper in price and do provide a quality operation when in a laptop or desktop computer. Background tasks can still be performed, however, because there are only two cores, freeing up one core to be used for another process becomes more difficult than with a quad core. It is important then for the consumer to examine how well a computer performs with both a dual and quad core. Visiting a computer shop and even testing one out provides or rather should provide a sufficient and adequate amount of information on which will aid them in what they are trying to do. There is also relevance in the type of dual core or type of quad core processor that is in the computer that is being used. This affects productivity in terms of speed and functionality also. Thus, even though a user may opt for a quad core processor, they could end up with one that is just as good as a proficient dual core processor. What is RAM? What is its function? White & Downs (2007) define RAM as random access memory.
This memory is assists in allowing the computer to simultaneously read and write data at the same time. Simply put, RAM is the most common form of memory that is utilized by computers as well as other devices. There are specific types of RAM that include dynamic random access memory and static random access memory, or DRAM and SRAM respectively. These two RAM are very different in terms of how they allow data to be read and written. Dynamic random access memory is often considered the most frequent type found in computers. Static random access memory is also found in computer, and is usually referred to as the faster of the two types due to the fact that refreshing of this form of memory is not needed whereas with dynamic random access memory it is. The term RAM is often used to describe what the computer uses to function. It is the main memory or primary memory whereby all processes and software run. Since it is random access memory, it is only available at the time a certain process is needed and is not stored anywhere on the computer specifically (2007). This is what makes random access memory often confusing to understand particular since computers also have what is known as read only
memory. White & Downs (2007) write that when compared to random access memory, read only memory is a certain type of memory that is particular to diagnostic processes in a computer. With random access memory, it is only accessed when required by the computer. Random access memory is stored in an integrated circuit, which is composed of both capacitors and transistors. A capacitor is described as an electron storage unit (2007). Computer users often wonder how much RAM they need when considering a computer purchase. While it is true that one can never have enough memory, the more RAM available, the better the computer is able to access the hard drive. In essence, optimal performance is recommended in computer use and therefore, the amount of RAM needed will depend on operating system. For example, one operating system may only need 65 MB, while another form of operating system may need additional random access memory for specific processes to function and for exceptional performance.
IP – The Internet Protocol (IP) - is the method or protocol by which data is sent from one computer to another on the Internet. Each computer (known as a host) on the Internet has at least one IP address that uniquely identifies it from all other computers on the Internet.
...n it all comes down to it, it all depends on what you really want to spend. Intel does have higher performing processors but all that means is that they have a wider array of selection. AMD has some processors that can compete with Intel, but if you want the most “bang for your buck” or you want the highest performance, Intel has proven to be on an entirely different playing field. Intel and AMD will continue to duke it out as long as both of the companies live, and ultimately one’s experience with either company’s processor is what determines whether or not one would purchase it. You hear enough bad things about AMD and Intel to not want to purchase either one of them, but really there is no other choice. The best route would be to not pick a company to stand by, but to pick a product that has good reviews and stick to that; regardless of which company produced it.
Choosing which motherboard to use is important. It also is closely related to what processor is chosen. Because of cost saving factors, the AMD Athlon processor is the best choice. Therefore we can only provide a motherboard compatible with the AMD AthlonXP 1900. For our client, we decided on the motherboard Aopen K77-333. This motherboard is an excellent choice for our client because:
Buying a computer seems like a daunting task to many. There are many factors to consider when making a purchase. Brand name, functionality, speed and customer support are just some of the factors that one must consider when researching the options. In order to wisely purchase a computer, one must attain a considerable amount of product knowledge, to get the most value for their dollar.

...n extension as easy as possible for programmers to use (Denning, 1997). Virtual memory also makes better use of memory by loading in just a few pieces. This means at any one time, only a few pieces of any given process are in memory, therefore, more processes can be maintained in memory. For virtual memory to be realistic and effectual, two ingredients are needed. First, there must be hardware support for the paging and/or segmentation scheme to be employed. Second, the operating system must include software for managing the movement of pages and/or segments between secondary memory and main memory. Virtual memory combines your computer’s RAM with temporary space on your hard disk. When RAM runs low, virtual memory moves data from RAM to a space called a paging file. Moving data to and from the paging file frees up RAM so your computer can complete its work.
As the speed of the processors increase, it becomes difficult for the RAM to handle it. Dynamic RAM is used to reduce size and cost, which is a lot faster, but on the other hand expensive. “The temporary storage of` files on the microprocessor, is known as cache memory.” It may also be referred to as high speed memory and is controlled by a cache` controller that identifies which data & command would be required for the subsequent process & accordingly `loads it into the cache.
So, which processor is the best? It depends on what the computer is being used for. The AMD Athlon processor is the best processor when it comes to 3D games and handles games quite well (Athlon Processor Quotes). The Pentium 3 processor is not quite as good at handling games. From personal experience with a Celeron 566 processor, the Celeron does not do a very good job at handling 3D games and will often freeze during a game, but otherwise is a very good processor. The Pentium 3 is the best processor for handling office applications, but the Celeron and the AMD do a good job as well. In consideration of the price, the Celeron processor is the best priced processor and offers good performance (P3 vs. Celeron 2). The Celeron is about half the price of the Pentium 3 processor (P3 vs Celeron 2).
There are four types of memory. These are the RAM, ROM, EEPROM and the Bootstrap loader. The RAM, also known as Random Access Memory, is the temporary space where the processor places the data while it is being used. This allows the computer to find the information that is being requested quickly without having to search the hard drive space. Once the information has been processed, and stored onto a permanent storage device, it is cleared out of the RAM. The RAM also houses the operating system while in

RAM stands for random access memory, and it is also referred to as volatile memory. Volatile memory loses data when the power is turned off. An example of non-volatile memory is a computer hard drive. Because the hard drive retains data even after a shutdown, it is considered non-volatile. Every program and application executed on a computer is loaded into and out of RAM. Windows runs many processes that consume a sizeable amount of RAM. The more RAM inside of a computer, the faster it will download files, run software, install applications, boot up, shutdown, and more. Many aging computers become young again with additional RAM added to the system. Modern RAM is usua...
The perfect computer for me, would be something that is capable of easily handling anything I need it to do. Thus, it must be strong enough to do anything from typing a text document, to rendering three-dimensional programs.
Computer memory refers to any physical device that has the ability of storing information either permanently or temporarily. For instance, the Random Access Memory (RAM) is a volatile memory that has the ability of storing information on various integrated circuits that are used by not only the operating system, but also by the hardware and software. In essence, there are two major types of computer memory namely Read Only Memory (ROM) and the Random Access Memory (RAM). ROM refers to smallest parts of a computer system’s silicon or solid state memory which is not only fixed in size, but also permanently stores or keeps the instructions of the manufacturer upon switching on a computer. On the other hand, RM refers to the larger part of a computer memory that comprises of floppies, DVD, CD, and hard disk which are together referred to as secondary storage and which are employed or applied in both running of programs as well as archiving of relevant data. It is prudent to note that computer memory can either be volatile and non-volatile (Tanenbaum & Austin, 2012).
The computer has two main data storage types, which include Primary storage and Secondary storage. There are two classifications of primary storage, which are directly accessible to the Central Processing Unit, commonly referred to as, the Random Access Memory (RAM) and the Read Only Memory (ROM). The RAM which is the working memory has two main forms namely, static RAM (SRAM) and dynamic RAM (DRAM). The SRAM is faster, expensive and uses less power than the DRAM. The CPU continuously and constantly reads instructions from the RAM. In terms of data storage, the capacity of the RAM is low. It has a remarkable fast access rate and it is expensive. The RAM consists of the processor cache and processor registers. Processor registers located inside the CPU help in loading ...
What is memory? Memory is a computer system's essential workspace. Memory is a large array of the word or bytes. Memory can be defined as a place to store data. It works in one behind the other with the CPU, or microprocessor, to store information, programs, and prepared data that can be made quickly and straightforwardly open to the CPU or to other system devices. Memory is central to a computer's operation because it forms the critical link between software and the CPU. Computer memory likewise decides the size and number of programs that can be run all the while, and helps to optimize the capabilities of capable microprocessors. As an example, human and computer depend on with full trust of the memory. It is proved that memory is very important especially in computer. Computer is very
