What is the heathiest diet and why? In the film one was able to see many eye-opening experiences. Also many experiment were held in order to fine the best diet. At the end many people were excited of the results so positive. They were able to change one simple thing in their diet and their body had change completely. Resulting that eating a plant based diet is healthier and can eliminate all diseases, one might have in the body.
First, many have a hard times believe this is true. All over the world, people would stay they need “protein” to stay healthy and the only way to get it is meat. This is false. Everything has protein and there are good alternatives to consume it and no body need animal meat to survive. This was proven by the fireman in the film. Before they use have an animal based diet but something changed completely. Once one of the fireman was having health issues and any day he could of getting a heart attack. More people are interviews and their thoughts of protein do not change. For this an experiments was held with different percentages of protein consumed by mice. The ones that consumed 20% protein had many health issues. It created cancer and were dying off but the mice that consumed 5% protein stayed healthy the whole time. They did not have any health issues. That took the experience to the next level they would alternate the diets after a few times every couple of weeks. The mice that started off with the 20% protein cancer was created but once it was changed to the 5% protein the cancer stop growing and it almost disappeared when the diet was changed again and the cancer
When it comes to the topic of eating healthy, most of us will readily agree that we all need to. Where this argument usually ends, however, is on the question of how and why. Whereas some are convinced that we don’t need to all be eating healthy foods that are over priced to stay healthy, and others maintain that there is no other way. Bill Gifford talks about a proper diet throughout the book, but one chapter in particular really stands out when it comes to how diet affects our bodies and ultimately our heath. I will first show the lack of validity and soundness to Howard’s claim that A) a vegan lifestyle is a healthier choice and B) his claim that one must switch to that lifestyle to enjoy these said benefits. To the claim made in A, Howard uses his own health problems he endured on his meat diet, and uses it as a constant variable comparing it to his now relative healthy lifestyle as a vegan. They've studied about 53.000 participants. Among these participants were about 17.000 vegetarians. They've studied the data of all these participants and something interesting became clear: People that were not consuming meat during their lifetime had fewer cancers on average than people who were consuming meat. There was also a remarkable result. Colon cancer is a type of cancer associated with consuming of red meat. However it became clear from the study that vegetarians had more colon cancer than other participants. Although the results are interesting, it's not completely new. It is already well known that people can reduce the cancer if they regularly eat fruit and vegetables. If you stick to this then it is said that you can decrease the risk of getting cancer. The new element of this study however is the fact that it concentrates on full vegetarians. The study doesn't only focus on meat eaters that eat fruit and vegetables occasionally. This gives a better view on the effect of meat by itself on the development of cancer. The researchers studied the participants from the age of 20 to 89. These people were organized into 4 groups. In the documentary “Fed Up,” sugar is responsible for Americas rising obesity rate, which is happening even with the great stress that is set on exercise and portion control for those who are overweight. Fed Up is a film directed by Stephanie Soechtig, with Executive Producers Katie Couric and Laurie David. The filmmaker’s intent is mainly to inform people of the dangers of too much sugar, but it also talks about the fat’s in our diets and the food corporation shadiness. The filmmaker wants to educate the country on the effects of a poor diet and to open eyes to the obesity catastrophe in the United States. The main debate used is that sugar is the direct matter of obesity. Overall, I don’t believe the filmmaker’s debate was successful.
I was able to see patients and how they were being documented on their success stories. I found it to be inspirational and motivational. I am overweight and I am working out and trying to eat better, however, I am not in optimal shape as of yet. Watching this film has definitely inspired me and I tend to start making changes so that I can get into the best shape of my life. Forks Over Knives is a film that can be controlled or even reversed, by simply giving up processed and animal-based foods. This is what happened to one of the patients in the film. SanDera Nation was one of the patients in this film. She was a mother working at a hospital. Her diet consisted of heavy cafeteria meals and fast food. She eventually had high blood pressure and had been diagnosed with diabetes. She then went on a strictly plant based diet, and in a few weeks she had lost a great amount of weight, lowered her blood pressure, and reversed her diabetes. Most of us do not think twice about the foods we pick up from the supermarket. Many Americans have a preconceived belief that the food being sold to us is safe, and withholds the highest standard of quality. Certainly, compared to many places in the world, this is true. But is the United States sincerely trying to carry out these standards, or have we begun to see a reverse in the health and safety of our food- and more explicitly in our meat? Jonathan Foer, author of “Eating Animals” argues for reform within the food industry- not only for the humane treatment of animals but moreover for our own health. Although Foer exposes the ills within the food industries in order to persuade readers to change their diets for the better, his “vegetarianism or die” assessment may be too extreme for most Americans. The true ills do not start with the meat, but with industrialized production of it through methods practiced by factory farming.
The question comes up again; “How is your diet?” Jessica revisited her diet analysis from the first week of class. She noticed that some things have changed and some things, unfortunately, have not changed. She knew that some things would not change because of the hectic and busy semester and summer she had ahead of her but the things that did change surprised her. This class did some good for her, but she still needs some work on her diet and nutrition.
Nutrition is a very controversial and confusing topic. One day coffee is bad for you, but the next day it is good. Alcohol is detrimental for our health one day, but the next day red wine is the elixir of life. There are dozens of diet plans and they promise a leaner and healthier body. There is the 3-Hour Diet that involves constantly eating small portions of anything we want to eat. The latest diet craze, the Paleo Diet, is based upon eating foods that our “hunter-gatherer ancestors” would have thrived on during the Paleolithic era. And there is the Blood Type Diet, the South Beach Diet, the Macrobiotic Diet, the Mediterranean Diet, and the list goes on. But who and what should we believe? Well, there is an optimal diet for humans and the answer might surprise many.
The emotional feel or atmosphere created by the documentary was just trying to help. You could tell that they want to help people and make sure they are all healthy and can live the right lifestyle. While watching this film I encountered many things I found questionable. I found three claims to be bias/ controversial in this documentary: it uses correlation as causation, they claim someone having health issues can be solved by cutting meat out of their diet, and lastly they only use one study to prove their method, and it is the one that one of the main people in the movie made.
I agreed with the the healthy eating habits of grass and plants. Most people aren’t getting enough vitamins which could be a huge reason why we are more likely to get cancer. People may not know about serious diseases meat can cause such as, mad cow disease and foot-and-mouth disease.
