As an active leader in several organizations, I have had the opportunity to reach out to several different groups of youth throughout my years. The utmost prestigious role I have gained is my Area IX Office in the Texas FFA Association. Being an area IX officer had been my goal since freshman year, and I finally accomplished it this past May. Over the course of the past few months, we have held several leadership camps, but I feel our highest success has been the Area IX FFA Leadership Camp held in June.
A leader is an individual is fearless when overcoming obstacles, not afraid to fail in order to learn, advocates of what they believe in, and builds the next generation of leaders through positivity and examples. We all face obstacles in life, and we can either choose to let them define us or build who we are as a person. I have always chosen to build myself from any challenges I have faced. Having never been afraid of failure, I have always faced challenges full of faith and perseverance. Highlighting these key characteristics of a leader is the purpose of the Area IX FFA Leadership Camp.
Our Area Officer team was in charge of

The FFA has had a negative reputation created on social media for several years by Animal Rights Activist groups. They have put out only what they feel to be the negative information about our organization; largely, the information spread by them is not even true. It is stated in the FFA mission statement that students develop their full potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through the agricultural education. I taught the importance of FFA members taking a stand to defend the organization that we share a common love for. When being a leader of any organization, you hold the responsibility of advocating all areas of what it offers. We must paint the picture of what we stand for instead of letting others paint a spoiled image for
Throughout the years of being a student at Council Rock, I have come to the realization of what a true leader is. A leader is not someone that just plans events, collects money, or shows up to meetings. Rather, this is someone that has a true connection with their peers, and has unmatched passion for what they do. With this, I can confidently say that since seventh grade, as a young adult, I have been shaped into an individual that fits these traits. Since that time, I have been involved in student government,
Chad Miller, manager of Buffalo Wild Wings in Dubuque, excellently showcases leadership characteristics each time I work with him. Throughout my one and a half years working underneath him, I have witnessed many great exchanges of leadership from Chad to customers, employees, and his other managers. He remains professional, shows his passion for the sports within the restaurant, as well as the food and atmosphere, clearly communicates effectively, and has inspired many people to move up within the company. However, another great example of leadership comes from the Director of Student Life, Diversity, and Leadership of Northeast Iowa Community College, Kara Popp. She exudes professionalism, while maintaining a light atmosphere during the time I work with her. Her communication style clearly shows her passion for the school by consistently instilling excitement and enthusiasm into her audiences. As president underneath of Kara, I have transformed into a proper leader. Although my previous leadership experience, as an 18 year old manager at a McDonald’s restaurant, showed my immaturity throughout my tenure, but beca...
Amidst the sea of blue and gold, one member stands silently in awe of the multitude of people. The sleeves of his blue jacket hang stiffly at his side and the copper zipper shines brightly; both signs of a brand new jacket-- a brand new FFA member. His face looks passive as if he really doesn't know how to react, but the sparkle in his eyes betrays his excitement. This is the first FFA activity he has attended as a high school freshman. To the average person, the boy looks quiet and shy. However, a seed of strength is beginning to take root inside this young man. Through being involved in this convention as well as many more FFA activities in the young man's career in FFA, a world of possibilities is opening up for his future.
Not only did I hold the office of Chapter Reporter my sophomore year of high school, but I was also elected Vice President the following year. Furthermore, I have been given the tremendous honor of serving as the Chapter President this year, and was selected to serve as a District XI Executive Committee member. Through these roles, I have had the chance to meet people from all over the state of Indiana, and even from across the nation; two of my closest friends live hundreds of miles away in two different states, one being in Missouri and the other in Oregon! In addition to all of this, I was also able to visit Washington, D.C. for the first time in my life, while attending a nationwide leadership conference with hundreds of members from across the United States. Not only have I developed myself as a person and leader in my home and community, but I have also pinpointed what it is that I want to do for the rest of my life. Although I would love to just be an FFA member for the rest of my life, I know that this is not possible, so I have decided on the next best option. I plan to study Agricultural Education while enrolled in college in order to become an Agriculture Teacher and FFA Advisor. By doing this, I hope to leave a mark on my students and instill a passion for FFA within them, just as my Advisor did for
Introduction According to the Oxford Dictionary, a leader is defined as “the person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country” (Oxford Dictionaries, 2013). Though there is a definition for what a leader is, people still have different ideas about what a leader should be and how he or she should act. There has never been a concrete idea of what a leader is; the only thing we know is that this person is the one in charge of the unit. We look at characteristics of those people we see as leaders and use those attributes to compare other people to see if they are able to be as good as, or even better than, those aforementioned leaders. We have to keep in mind that in different situations, leaders must do different tasks which indicates the need for different qualities.
What is a leader? A leader is someone who takes command and leads an organization or group to success. Anyone can be a leader but in order to become a great leader you have to have to possess certain characteristics. I will be using Odysseus from the Odyssey isas an example of a leader who has suitable characteristics. You also have to know what harmful characteristics a leader may possess to determine if they are good leaders or not.
Leadership is being able to direct or guide other people by either your own actions or by actually guiding them into the right direction (Acumen). Inspiration to be a leader might come from many different areas like your family, friends, peers, or even teachers. My inspiration didn’t really occur to me until I started attending college in August 2013. In all actuality I never even thought of how to be a leader until I was in Mrs. Moore’s Perspectives class. I now have a desire to be a great leader, and the inspiration has come from Mrs. Moore, and my family. I am the first to attend college out of my family, so in a away I have already started leading my siblings in the right direction. Being a leader means inspiring others to pursue their dreams, and aspirations and helping throughout the journey to success. Being a leader has nothing with authority or being able to tell other what, and how to do things, it’s about having people who look up to you and want to follow your example.
Each FFA chapter provides a support network of its own that shapes each individual differently and to different degrees. Becoming an FFA member has helped me grow in my confidence, responsibility, and leadership skills. This chapter has connected me with other people who share my enthusiasm for encouraging and building up others. Every individual has the potential to apply the skills or lessons they have learned to significantly influence their environment, yet some people do not exercise that knowledge in their reasoning. To that end, I have and will continue to utilize the lessons I have learned to assist myself in wise and perceptive decision making in the future.
Leadership is all about having the right amount of heart and determination to help make a difference in someone’s life. It takes certain qualities to be considered a good leader. A leader should want to help inspire others to make a change and to be the best that they can be. A true leader does not need to feel powerful, instead they empower those around them. Throughout my life I have come across various leaders who have made an impact on my life. It takes a very special person to inspire and touch people’s lives. Leadership is so much deeper than having power and bossing people around.
Leaders is an effective tool for summarizing and inspiring leadership, not in that it teaches tough strategies and manipulations, but that when looking at an overview of its content, Bennis and Nanus are essentially teaching human relations and human decency. All in all, this book highlights strategies for us all to be better in our lives and our everyday interactions.
I am also a leader who was hand picked to serve in the campus ministry at my school. In this role, I assist in planning and implementing Christian retreats for other grades. At these retreats, we help campus counselors address real life challenges and adolescent struggles with fellow students who find comfort because of peer involvement. We encourage and edify many who have family, social and academic issues.
To be a leader you need to be able to inspire others, get people motivated, and set an example to other people. A leader needs to do all of these because if one of these aspects fails people don’t look at the leader...
My junior year, I was given the opportunity to apply for RYLA, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards; a leadership Camp awarding students who had demonstrated leadership abilities and a passion for making a difference in the world. I eventually was selected out of my junior class to attend RYLA after an essay and interview; allowing me to meet motivational speakers, brave middle eastern women who pursued an education despite odds, and the chance to collaborate with fellow students on their different styles to inspire and push for change in their own communities.
A leader is someone who is not willing to sit down and take it all in, he/she is willing to speak up and is not afraid of what others might say. A leader is willing to be an example towards others, and they will walk the walk and not just talk the talk. Leaders are leaders because they are willing to help better the environment around them. “Leadership is not only having a vision, but also having the courage, the discipline, and the resources that get you there.”-George Washington. George Washington was a great leader, he helped free America from the British. He stood up for what he thought was the right thing to do; if he did not have the courage to stand up for what he thought was right we probably would still be under England’s
Besides academics, fine arts and sports in school, I have attained leading roles in different groups. This year, I am the Spirit Leader of Student Council encouraging monthly goals and themes and assisting in school events. From creating a student council with a group of peers three years ago we have had success in many events and have found new ways to spread spirit, gather important information and assist with financial groups. Recently, I stepped up to be the leader of the fundraising committee for our ...
