Hello. I’m here to talk to you about sustainability in Ferny Grove and whether or not it’s a sustainable community. In order to determine if Ferny Grove is a sustainable community, we must first determine what a sustainable city is. Some aspects of sustainability are: - Low pollution levels - Good waste disposal - Low energy usage - Good public transport - Takes into consideration the impacts on the environment and tries to overcome negative impacts - Offers good facilities like supermarkets and parks A few aspects that sustainable cities share are - Reduced traffic congestion. This can be achieved by encouraging public transport and carpooling. - Using storm water efficiently by collecting it and using it on gardens and setting up hydroelectric facilities to use the water and turn it into electricity. - …show more content…
Reykjavík hopes to be entirely fossil fuel free by 2050 and instead use green energy such as hydroelectric energy. Green energy already powers a lot of Reykjavík from heating homes and swimming pools to greenhouses and street lights. Reykjavík uses an astonishing amount of renewable energy, with about 85% of its energy coming from renewable sources. It also offers a hydrogen fuelled bus service and around 90% of residents live 5 minutes away from greenspaces. As a result of this Reykjavík has the lowest NO2 levels of all the major cities in Europe stated on this graph. So, is Ferny Grove a sustainable community? Ferny Grove has a railway station and many buses. It also has a Coles supermarket, along with medical facilities and eateries. These facilities are within walking distance of many houses and thereby eliminates some of the traffic congestion and pollution released into the air. It also has parks and greenspaces which also encourages physical activity. Not only does Ferny Grove have multiple greenspaces like parks but has also maintained its greenery along the sides of roads and
Going Green for Gatesburg idea is the right decision to make if there is any hope of saving the environment from the natural disaster of the human race. With making your own compost and recycling the way that's explained in the text, you can redue the amount of waste added to landfills by 90% over the next five years, you'll save moeny in the long run, you won't have to open an entirely new landfill, and you will vastly improve upon the environment.
Every neighborhood has both positive and negative situations. It is whom every choice to decide on where to live. Gentilly is a family neighborhood. Memories have been built here for centuries. It is one of the most historical places. It wouldn’t get any better than to live in a neighborhood that has great food, universities, and has tons of history.
A. Define the Problem Natureview Farm, Inc. (Natureview), a small yogurt company founded in 1989, produces and markets yogurt using natural ingredients and a distinct manufacturing method that yields a smooth, creamy texture without adding artificial thickeners. As a result of this emphasis on natural ingredients, the brand has established a reputation for high quality, great tasting yogurt and is the leading natural foods brand of refrigerated yogurt. Natureview’s yogurts – available in twelve flavors in 8-ounce cups, four flavors in 32-ounce cups, and multi-pack yogurt products – are distributed nationally and the company shares leadership in the natural food channel. In 1999, the company’s revenues grew from $100,000 to $13 million; however, despite Natureview’s success and well-established brand, the company has long battled to preserve a steady level of profitability. In 1996, Jim Wagner was hired as chief financial officer and was able to successfully achieve steady profitability for the company.
As more countries become industrialized, our global footprint continues to grow making global warming look like a ticking time bomb. To effectively combat global warming companies are starting to reevaluate and implement practices that are less detrimental to the environment. Life Time Fitness has also joined the cause in becoming greener. The initiatives presented in this report focus on the efforts made locally in Chanhassen Minnesota, where the corporate headquarters resides. As the local media specialist for Life Time Fitness, I will focus on my stakeholders, the residents of Chanhassen throughout the planning and execution of our project. To my advantage, Chanhassen is already ahead of other cities and counties in terms of their green knowledge and initiative that are already in place.
In conclusion, brownfield redevelopment supports the continual goal of sustainability through utilization, incorporation, preservation and remediation. For instance, brownfield sites offer developers a chance to utilize the existing infrastructure, which lowers municipal costs. Additionally, developers can incorporate ancient and modern technologies that create more efficient buildings thus reducing energy use. Moreover, with opportunities to grow within cities, there is less pressure to develop greenfields. Furthermore, through the required process of remediation, environmental hazards are removed or prevented. Overall, brownfield redevelopment saves money, reduces energy usage, protects greenfields and removes critical dangers to the surrounding environment thus moving towards a more sustainable society.
The ambiance of a district also sways the wellness of the individuals that reside within the province. It is proven that citizens who have “greener” communities (more parks, grassy areas, trees) are more likely to be healthier and have a greater life expectancy (2). This could stem from a feeling of security which allows for the people of that area engage in exercise more often than people from areas where it is unsafe to walk the streets alone even in the daytime. Lack of r...
Hydro power is one of many examples of alternative energy source. Hydro power is producing energy by moving
However, there are several ways to cut GHG emissions, such as reducing emissions from automotive engines, industrial processes and livestock. These reduction process require advanced technology and Iceland is improving its technology to accomplish its goals (Iceland’s Climate Change Strategy, 2007). To accomplish the objectives mentioned above, Iceland is improving its infrastructure and carbon sequestration inventory to fulfill its obligations that were mentioned at the Kyoto Protocol. Also, the government is attempting to increase carbon sequestration through revegetation, wetland reclamation and afforestation. Revegetation will not only help remove carbon from the atmosphere but also will help reduce the incidence of soil erosions. Lastly, the government is preparing for adaptation to climate change since the global warming is inevitable for some extent. Countries on Earth are interconnected and interdependent of each other. Therefore, it does not stop the global warming if Iceland alone is making effort. Some countries such as China refused to take sustainable movements since they care more about their economic growth than they care about the environment (Iceland’s Climate Change Strategy,
ways. The use of electricity will reduces the usage of the earth’s resources such as gas and oil.
Prevent dangerous climate change by phasing out fossil fuels (oil, coal, gas) and replacing them with clean renewable energy such as solar.
Instilling this new way of energy usage into off-grid communities will inevitably increase the state of living for those in cities and other well populated areas. The change to renewable energy sources could drastically lower the pollutants currently being dispersed into the atmosphere by coal mines and other harmful power options,
Water provides a very valuable resource. We use dams built to run water through turbines and produce electricity. There are many advantages and disadvantages to hydropower, though there are more advantages. It is reasonable inexpensive to maintain, and is a clean source. There are issues with dams blocking fish swimming in the river, but there are ways to help them. Hydropower is well balanced between the electricity needs and the needs of the environment.
In developing countries, passing along technical information for maintaining pumps and sanitizing the local water supply will help not only relieve the burden of responsibility, but allow them to maintain a constant supply. Factories and cleaning facilities establish jobs and financial stability when in the right hands. Knowledge of finances and business will help establish revenue and economic stimulation, thus allowing for better technology for survival in the future. Technological innovations in developed and developing countries will allow war-torn states to have more access to water than previously known.... ...
For solutions regarding climate change and human health, alternative energy sources would be the best. Since humans rely heavily on fossil fuels, they need to find an equal energy source that will not disrupt the atmosphere. Some examples of alternative energy sources are wind energy, solar energy, hydroelectric energy, tidal power and much more. None of these energy sources provide pollution to the Earth; however, they are expensive substitutes to build and use efficiently. Dams provide hydroelectric energy, drinking water, and flood control, but cannot be built everywhere and is also expensive to
...urn the hydropower water into electricity to power our cars, homes and devices. In the future the development of hydropower plants will create local physical pollution. For an example, industrial structures in natural settings!
