Approximately 91% of women are unhappy with their bodies and resort to dieting to achieve their ideal body shape. Unfortunately, only 5% of women naturally possess the body type often portrayed by Americans in the media. We live in the generation of technology, and that is a very great thing but can also be very scary. Many students in Penn Wood have some form of social media, or access to social networks, meaning more than 50% of the whole school has a snap chat, Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. The majority of those who look for social approval are females. Why is that? One day a thought about the amount of rejection that females receive came across my mind, followed by the realization that majority of it being directed by other females. I wanted to create a new generation, a hashtag, and a platform for women all over the world to really empower and support one another. The female oxygen is the name that came to my head. My reason behind the name is very simple; considering the fact that oxygen is needed in order to be alive, those who refer to themselves as "the female oxygen" are as important to women as oxygen is to living creatures. The point of "The female oxygen" is to gather a new group of people who genuinely empower Females all over the world. If you type into Google "% female body image statistics" alone the numbers that appear is very discouraging. We live in a generation where females are usually praised for the unnatural things about them and no one seems to pay attention to the natural features.
