FAREWELL TO MANZANAR ESSAY
In the novel Farewell to Manzanar a girl named Jeanne struggles with her identity as a Japanese american.In this story she tries to fit in but she couldn't be fully Japanese or American because of the prejudice she experienced after the war and during the war.

Pre Manzanar Jeanne life started normal she grew up in long beach where everyone was treated the same.While her father would go fishing near the islands by long beach and her brothers woody and bill as his crew.Then Jeanne and her family stand on the dock waving to them. When suddenly Half a mile at sea the radio reports that Japan had bombed Pearl Harbor the ship turned around to head back to shore.Jeanne father began to burn all his documents and the flag of Japan he brought back from Hiroshima.He thought he would be interrogated for a non U.S citizen to have a fishing licence because the FBI began arresting people assuming they are spies.the family goes to terminal island to stay woody.the FBI came two weeks later to arrest Jeanne's father for giving the Japanese oil.the family are unable to find out where they are keeping him.Jeanne, mother cries but she doesn't cry because she didn't fully understand her mother's grief until she finally …show more content…
