Have you ever been walking down the street when you notice someone who looks almost exactly like you? Or have you been browsing social media when you see a picture of a person that looks extremely familiar? Have you ever wondered if there’s an exact double of you? These “twin strangers” are also referred to as doppelgangers, and the odds of finding one are much higher than you might think. The legend of doppelgangers can be characterized by their history, connections to literature, and famous doppelganger sightings. The legend of doppelgangers is believed to have originated over 1000 years ago in Germany. In ancient Germany, doppelganger was a word that meant “double-walker”. With all of these legends and stories of doppelgangers, it makes sense that many people would claim to have met their own doppelganger. There have been dozens of doppelganger sightings, from both ordinary people and some historical figures. Some of the most famous people who witnessed their doppelgangers include Catherine The Great, Queen Elizabeth I, and Abraham Lincoln. All 3 of them died soon after supposedly witnessing their doppelganger. One of the most interesting real-life doppelganger stories is about when Neil Richardson met his doppelganger John on a train.
