Family health history play an important role in health promotion and risk assessment. A family medical history is the record of a health information about a person and his or her close relatives. Families have many factors in common such as genes, lifestyle and environment, these factors can give hints to medical conditions that may run in a family. By looking at the patterns of conditions in the family, health care providers can identify whether an induvial is at risk of developing certain condition. A family history can identify people with a higher than usual chance of having common conditions such as heart disease, hypertension, stroke, certain cancers and diabetes as these complex disorders are influenced by genetic factors, environmental conditions and life style choices. A family history also can provide information about the risk of getting certain conditions caused by mutations in a single gene, such as cystic fibrosis and sickle cell disease. In 2013, 11,955 women in the United States were diagnosed with cervical cancer as well as 4,217 women died from cervical cancer. However, in the past 40 years, the number of deaths from the cervical cancer and number of cases from the cancer has decreased as a result of many women getting regular pap tests (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2016). The goal of cervical cancer screening is to identify precancerous lesions and invasive cancer. Early identification benefits the harms related to invasive procedures require follow up on positive screening tests. Earlier initiation and increased screening are associated with more false positive results, which requires additional testing and treatment, with little change in cancer risk.
