Both the family aquarium and family crest were fun activities to complete. I thought it was especially interesting to complete the family crest because when sharing aloud with my peers, it became quit obvious how different everyone’s answers were even though all parts of the family crest were similar. While completing these activities a competency I was able to apply more knowledge was: Apply social work ethical principles to guide professional practice (EPAS 2) because with the family crest the clinician has to meet the child/clinet where they are, to clarify I mean the clinician has to allow the child to guide the conversation and allow the child to decide what he/she wishes to put on their crest and explore why they chose what they chose.
The New England Aquarium’s foray into diversity was tumultuous and administrators learned lessons the hard way. Despite the early problems administrators faced with the minority youth programs, the needs of both parties were eventually addressed. The aquarium was reaching communities they hadn’t before while young people experienced meaningful job opportunities. Problems within the structural frame were present but I’m confident that the work Rosa Hunter was doing would lead them to eventually restructuring, finding easier ways to communicate and working as a group to reach their mission.
While only a small percentage of the entire workforce was able to participate in the event, its intention was to provide employees with something to strive toward. It was also rejuvenating for those given the opportunity to attend. The event was inspiring and left you with the feeling that you work for a great company and they do care about you; so much so that they are willing to spend a lot of money and provide you with a wonderful experience . The event also focused heavily on the driving force of the company: the students and helping them to improve and change their lives. Employees returned to work feeling inspired and ready to do just that. The event provided the company with an opportunity to invest in their employees, reward them, and make them feel

Most of the readings in the class focused on civically engaged activity that helped me to reflect on my personal and other people efforts to bring changes in society and the world. Through class readings I learned on what people are doing, and why are they doing certain activities or action in the society. The readings assisted me to reflect more on my journey about the past and the future. I reflected on the 11 years I lived in Brazil as a volunteer missionary, giving service to the marginalized. In Alice Walker's "Everyday Use," the message about the preservation of heritage, specifically African-American heritage, is very clear. It is obvious that Walker believes that a person's heritage should be a living, dynamic part of the culture from which it arose and not a frozen timepiece only to be observed from a distance. There are two main approaches to heritage preservation depicted by the characters in this story. The narrator, a middle-aged African-American woman, and her youngest daughter Maggie, are in agreement with Walker. To them, their family heritage is everything around them that is involved in their everyday lives and everything that was involved in the lives of their ancestors. To Dee, the narrator's oldest daughter, heritage is the past - something to frame or hang on the wall, a mere artistic, aesthetic reminder of her family history. Walker depicts Dee's view of family heritage as being one of confusion and lack of understanding.

In examining my personal strengths and limitations for work with this family, it was an eye opener. As an individual and human being, I felt the family’s sufferings. It was hard to hear and see what Precious has dealt with and knowing that she wanted to die at times. However as their social worker, I have to maintain boundaries and keep a professional relationship.
The defining moment when you transition from child to adult comes in many shapes and sizes, as for me it came when i won HOSA presidency. Being part of HOSA my junior year and my senior year being my school's HOSA chapter president taught me so much , things that will be useful in the future, like leadership as well as professionalism, “walk the walk and talk the talk” one could say. Together these two skills with the help of my fellow HOSA officers and teachers we had a blast at the Health Occupations Students of America regionals, states and, nationals.
I interviewed my grandmother, father and mother for this project. It was very interesting to uncover many of the stories and values that I was unaware of throughout my life. My father’s mother is currently 91 years old and offered a difficult interview by giving me too many stories to analyze for this project. She grew up in the Midwest and moved throughout several states as a child. Her parents separated when she was 8 years old leaving her mother to raise her independently. Learning this competency made me think about what makes a good human service professional and how I measured up. After a minor break from researching, I researched for three more hours on the Victorian memorabilia project. I found out companies who made postcards and when the Sanborn map company emerged. Once I was done I wanted to prepare more for physical archiving, so I trained two more hours with the Past Perfect disk. Tomorrow started my first experience with archiving.
