A million types of fad diets promising people to lose weight by using drugs or specific diet plans such as 5:2, paleo, hormone cure, virgin, bulletproof. Moreover, each type of fad diets has own specific style. Studies show that 108 million people in US following fad diets (ABC News Staff, 2012). The fad diets are the same as fashion that people use it enthusiastically for a period of time to give them beauty, elegant and perfect appearance. A fad diet is the most dangerous type of diet and it causes many health problems. This paper will look at two areas, which are physical and mental problems. Fad diets is becoming more popular because the consumers spend a huge amount of their money to follow specific type of diets to lose their weight The FTC deceives consumers by using advertisement weight-loss and as a result it has collected almost $107 million since 2010 (Giorgianni, 2014). In addition, people need to increase their awareness of fad diets by knowing the negative impacts of it. Increase using fad diets cause physical problems. First of all, people who use fad diets could increase the risk of losing appetite. Interestingly, some studies from Victoria show that practice diet increases the risk of getting anorexia (Anorexia risk of moderate dieting, 1999). It seems that, anorexia linked to the fad diets because people usually change there eating method from time to time. Secondly, people who do not eat in a healthy way and eliminate essential ingredients, which provide body with energy such as protein and carbohydrates, may cause the problems in their bones. Research by Dr. Henry C. Lukaski demonstrates that dieting in unhealthy way can cause losing of almost 3 percent of bone mass Firstly, following fad diets may lead to depression. Researchers point out that people, who follow fad diets, suffer of lack of essential chemical elements that the body produces such as amino acids and that affect the nerve impulses (Revill, 2006). These elements may affect our emotional. The human body affected by the percentage of essential ingredients that the body produces and when the percentage of the chemical material in human’s body decreases that affects brain and makes it unhealthy which causes the feeling of depression. Another factor connecting fad diets and mental effects is that when elderly people follow fad diets it can raise the incidence of dementia. According to Dr Dangour as it cited in “the Associate Parliamentary Food and Health Forum”, 2008, the practicing of a fad diets in elderly people causes the decrease of omega-3, which works to protect their bodies from dementia. It shows the important of balance diet to maintain the brain. Thirdly, following low carbohydrate diet make people feel tired. The research points out that when people consume low percentage of carbohydrate which create the glucose in human’s body the body starts to create the glucose from protein which lead to breakdown body muscle to feed brain and that make people feel tired (Nutrition - Fad Diets, n.d.). Clearly, we need variety in what we eat and fad diets usually restrict people to eat specific kind of food. Finally, people who follow
