Face Off is one of the popular 90’s action flicks of that decade. It is directed by a well-known Hong Kong director and who legitimately majorly influenced action films or sequences nowadays, known for chaotic action sequences, Mexican Standoffs, and frequent usage of slow motion. This film contains all of these aspects, as well as the addition of the two famous actions stars, John Travolta, and Nicolas Cage. As the film title states, the film starts with a soul of an FBI agent named Sean Archer (John Travolta) and his very young son getting shot and nearly assassinated by one of the mob terrorists named Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage). Sean Archer’s son persists dead from the gunfire. After a few years later, Castor and some of his mob crews …show more content…
In the film, it illustrates this very brief shortly as it is supposedly more shed into a genre of Sci-Fi. This could be mistaken as for the most preponderance of the film continues for a period of time of events happening between the accidentally switched life of Sean and Castor as they both premiere experience and endure the risks and faith of their new lives. John Travolta first plays an FBI agent who is desperate for revenge and his family’s conditions but as the facial transplant surgery befalls to him, we see the face of a terrorist implanted to the main hero and faithful FBI agent who secretly needs to extract information about a bomb terror in a city. John Travolta is wickedly entertaining to watch his presence and his physical and mental change of a person, he acts smoothly and quiet, but later performances wicked, frightening yet hilarious and a person who has a heavy sexual desire. He outtakes the personal yet wonderfully disorganized life of the original Sean and makes the outcome of running it and changing the course to his desire of style. Nicolas Cage first plays the after the character of John Travolta the boss of a terror organization but later transfigures to a vulnerable hero who gets yanked into a thoroughly unexpected harsh situation. Nicolas Cage is the best aspect that could be supplemented to this film, as he is at his prime best, courageous and peddles the likability …show more content…
The action here is remarkably entertaining. Additionally, audiences can assert that the stunts are somewhat dangerous and when an action sequence ensues, a stunt double has been replaced with the actors. Like all cheesy 90’s action flicks, the action is competitively identical yet entertaining as usual. John Woo’s direction makes the normal average 90’s action flick, more upscale and procreates some of the revolutionary action sequences and styles that are continued throughout until nowadays. Additionally, he definitely borrows the elements from his previous foreign action films making this action fresh at the time of period. Aside from the entertaining and cool action sequences, this film frequently has a heavy-handed dramatic weight as the two opposite characters change. We have an empathy to Nicolas Cage’s character Sean as we want his accomplishment of rejoining with his wife and family to obtain the joy-ness and true
The film received mostly positive reviews. Roger Ebert praised the film as "one of those stories with the quality of a nightmare, in which foolish young men try to out-macho one another until they get trapped in a violent situation which will forever alter their lives.”
The film then releases the full fury of what corrupt politicians can do to a truthful man. The plot of the film will grab the viewer within the first five minutes and will not let go until the astonishing end. Even though this type of thing is implausible it's still very funny and unique in its own way. The acting was superb! James Stewart will always represent the good guy trying to make his way
The Great Train Robbery in 1903 through to the hugely popular James Bond exploits in the 60’s onwards, to the more modern films such as the classic Die Hard or Speed even. It was mainly during the 80’s and 90’s however that action films really exploded into a genre of their own. With the growth of special effects and heightened demand by audiences for faster plots containing increased violence and stimulation, some of the best classic action films of our time were created. Successful action films have breath taking impact, nonstop energy, an abundance of physical stunts, neck braking chase scenes, explosive battles and fight scenes, destructive disasters, non-stop motion, spectacular rhythm, nail biting suspense , a heroic hero, damsel in distress and evil villain - all designed and premeditated for pure audience thrill. It isn’t hard to realize why Speed is classified as being as being a classica... ...
Both Ogami and Takezo are played by skilled actors (Tomisaburô Wakayama and Toshiro Mifune respectably) whose every facial movement pulls you deeper inside of the character. Takezo is a bundle of competing impulses; brusque, brutal and aggressive, yet also a tender soul yearning for affection. Ogami’s countenance is one of utter stoicism; yet in key moments he lets unexpected registers of fear and surprise seep in. Witness, for instance, the expression on his face at the beginning of the film when he realizes he has been framed. Both of these films have a richness and authenticity, driven by impeccably-choreographed fight scenes imbued with the directors’ love for the characters, that one would be hard pressed to find in most contemporary action films.
...ng the underlying theme that drives the story and the movie, propels the reader and viewer to rekindle the desire to hope above all else because hope is all one has in devastating as well as dire needs. Hope overcomes despair, permits others to see your “inner light” to develop integrity which connects with honesty and trust. Hope is the inspiration to continue to live regardless of the circumstances. Red may have narrated; “Let me tell you something my friend. Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane.” But, Andy Dufresne states it best: “Get busy living, or get busy dying.”
All in all, this film is the dark side of the American dream. Brian De Palma did an excellent job at creating memorable scenes, such as the scene earlier explained and the famous ending with Pacino reciting “Say hello to my little friend”. Throughout the film some confusion is made due to frequent slips but overall the theme is consistent and remains consistent with the help of a strong cast. Without a doubt Al Pacino was the main star of the film and it probably wouldn’t have been such a success if another star was assigned his character. It’s hard to see anyone else playing Tony Montana after Al Pacino’s performance. This film, though full of violence and crime, protrudes moments of humor and controversial situations. It’s a momentous film created in the 80’s that is still considered a classic gangster film in today’s generation.
Due to the film’s quality and interest it became an award winning film. The film had excellent sound effects such as the battle scenes. The image quality was also outstanding; it used many different angles to depict the actor to make you feel involved in the scenes. In the action scenes the most common viewpoint used was a close up shot which allows the audience to see and feel the intensity of the scene. The second viewpoint mostly used was a tracking shot due to the actors c...
The film demonstrates the long-lasting martial arts through the sword fight between the warriors. Chinese martial arts are a unique mixture of self-defense, exercise, meditation, harmony, and self-discipline. Additionally, it uses the strength of body and brain. Each battle scene in the movie depicts that martial arts virtue peace instead of violence. It is shown in the scene, where nameless (Jet Li) is fighting with broken sword while floating on the lake and drawing a pattern with their sword. The martial arts define the styles of Chinese tradition and life of the warriors. It is one of the important aspects of Chinese culture as it is deeply imbedded in China, and it serves as a representative of the culture. It has enhanced my understanding on importance of martial arts in Chinese culture.
Edgar Allen Poe wrote many stories and poems. He was a well known author and poet. He was known for being a little crazy and it is reflected in some of his works. Edgar Allen Poe’s work “The Cask of Amontillado” revealed just how crazy he was. It is a very well written story that gives the reader suspense and interests the reader throughout the whole story. “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allen Poe is a great story and it uses good literary devices like foreshadowing, symbolism and irony.
Except in the thanksgiving scene which was almost the last, the characters had come together in some relationships and drifted apart in others. But taken as a whole this film manages to bring out one of the most important feelings in life, love, whilst exploring feelings of jealousy, confusion, rivalry, hope, sadness and loneliness on the way. Although there was limited hope for the characters to come together in the end, they did, it was in the vulnerability and tenderness of it all that love emerged.
... that you see this action filled thriller. Liam Neeson’s portrayal of Bryan Mills was courageous and inspiring. Only a father’s love could drive a man as far as he went to save his only daughter.
First of all, I was touched by the following statement “ You can be mad as a mad dog at the way things went. You can swear, curse the fates, regret everything you ever did but when it comes to the end. You have to let it go”. Actually, I was in a gloomy mood before I watched this film, something really grieved happened and I was lost and confused. I cursed the fate and blame everyone and everything include myself. Nevertheless, the word “let it go” helped me lay my burdens down and I understood that something I had to accept truth which had happened and let it
A perfect movie character is one that the audience can form a complex, personal relationship with in the short time that a movie is viewed, displaying the art of acting and drama perfectly. When the thought of lovable movie characters is brought up, Johnny Depp will almost always be apart of the discussion. With his quirky, lively attitude which blends perfectly into roles that should not have soul, Johnny Depp is truly a one-of-a-kind actor. With a spectrum of characters Depp has played, ranging from Edward Scissorhands in the movie Edward Scissorhands (1990), to playing his role in 21 Jump Street (1987), up until the recent Pirates of the Caribbean (2003), he is involved in roles that “only the likes of Depp can pull off” (“Johnny Depp”, 1). Although coming from rebellious teenage years and many “ups and downs of his personal life” (“Johnny Depp Biography”, 2), the actor has become one of the great faces of the movie scene of his generation.
