Speed- a Jan De Bont movie starring Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock and
Dennis Hopper is a film worthy of rivaling the very best in action
movie history and certainly deserves a place in our top ten modern
action films due to its riveting action sequences, flamboyant stunts
and surprisingly good cast. If you wanted to find a classic action
movie which contains absolutely everything an action movie is
forecasted to have and be, look no further. Speed is a classic action
film with emphasis on the action.
The stereotypical action film we know today is the product of over a
century of evolution, from the first timid opening silent serial films
around the time of Edwin S. Porter's classic action-western The Great
Train Robbery in 1903 through to the hugely popular James Bond
exploits in the 60’s onwards, to the more modern films such as the
classic Die Hard or Speed even.
It was mainly during the 80’s and 90’s however that action films
really exploded into a genre of their own. With the growth of special
effects and heightened demand by audiences for faster plots containing
increased violence and stimulation, some of the best classic action
films of our time were created.
Successful action films have breath taking impact, nonstop energy, an
abundance of physical stunts, neck braking chase scenes, explosive
battles and fight scenes, destructive disasters, non-stop motion,
spectacular rhythm, nail biting suspense , a heroic hero, damsel in
distress and evil villain - all designed and premeditated for pure
audience thrill.

combine surprisingly together to make his character rather endearing
to us. And the little dialogue that there is throughout the film is
realistic and funny at the same time (witness the hostility between
passengers aboard the Bus throughout for an example).
Speed, is an example of how to do everything right in an action movie.
It doesn't rely purely on thrills and explosions; rather, it creates
characters that are worth caring about and situations people can
relate to. Speed is about as close to a perfect action movie as you
can get. Charismatic hero, an engaging love interest, a suitably evil
and diabolical villain, and (of course) many, many explosive and
awesome action sequences. It is certainly one of the best action films
of all time and without a doubt is a classic example of the action
movie genre.
I am writing today to tell you about Johnny Tremain. Johnny Tremain is a fictional story about a boy in Boston at the time of the American Revolution. It was originally written as a novel by Esther Forbes, but was later made into a Disney movie. However, there are many differences in the movie and book. Johnny and Rab’s characters are very different in the movie and book, even though there are some similarities. Some include Johnny’s friendships and struggles.
The myth of American(USA) superiority and exceptionalism has existed since the early foundation days. The rush towards the Pacific provided an easy way to sustain this theory, and for a long time it was assumed that westward growth was the best sign of success. In fact, some of the earliest films to hold captive the American citizens were spectacles of U.S. positivism, where good always triumphed over evil.
J. Edgar, a 2011 film staring Leonardo DiCaprio, is biographical drama that is, obviously, about J. Edgar Hoover. It was written by Dustin Lance Black, a LGBT rights activist as well as a gay man himself. It focuses on both the public political life and the private life of J. Edgar Hoover, the first Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The film jumps around in time, as the main premise is that J. Edgar is retelling the story of the FBI to a writer so that the public can know the truth.
Gina Marchetti, in her essay "Action-Adventure as Ideology," argues that action- adventure films implicitly convey complex cultural messages regarding American values and the "white American status quo." She continues to say that all action-adventure movies have the same basic structure, including plot, theme, characterization, and iconography. As ideology, this film genre tacitly expresses social norms, values, and morals of its time. Marchetti's essay, written in 1989, applies to films such as Raiders of the Lost Ark and Rambo: First Blood II. However, action-adventure films today seem to be straying farther away from her generalizations about structure, reflecting new and different cultural norms in America. This changing ideology is depicted best in Oliver Stone's Natural Born Killers (1994), which defies nearly every concept Marchetti proposes about action-adventure films; and it sets the stage for a whole new viewpoint of action in the '90's.
Thus, the reason why British Westerns have an unconventional tradition of being sympathetic towards Native Americans is clear. Although directors certainly bring their own personal artistic vision to their projects, mainstream film production is still ultimately governed by commercial interests, as both Nowell-Smith and Neale attest. In order to make a profit at the box-office, movies have to meet the expectations and desires of their viewers, ensuring positive reviews and word of mouth endorsement. With government approval high in the United States during the 1950s, there was very little incentive for production companies to release a movie which challenged the dominant myth of the nation’s founding and its virtuousness, as it is unlikely that audiences would have been open to these ideas. Two of America's greatest movies ever to be seen are High Noon and "The Most Dangerous Games"! In both stories/movies there is a ton of action and fighting always going on. While I was reading both stories I was on the edge of my seat for most of the book. If you love action stories then I really suggest these for you, but even if you don't I still recommend them. I was captivated by them. There are a lot of plot similarities and a few differences too.

My grandfather has always talked about how much movies have changed in such a short amount of time. His favorite movie, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, is an example of how editing and special effects have changed drastically since only 1982 and even from the early 1900s. Watching a movie from this year compared to a movie from the 1930s, the viewer would notice many differences ranging from effects, transitions and especially quality. When film started in the late 1800s, there was no digital technology to edit films. There have been many contributors in the film industry that have helped evolve film to its digital age of today. Edwin Porter was the first person in film history to create a narrative film. Lev Kuleshov created a technique gives films certain moods to it and can affect a person’s emotions just by the way images are juxtaposed and edited together. Danny Boyle is an example of a modern day director that developed a set of guidelines that a director should reciprocate while filming. Film editing has revolutionized and developed so much since the early 1900s to now because of important contributors throughout its history that developed new technology and techniques.
Jeunet’s Amelie and Ham’s Tilly enter as outcasts; who long for acceptance and normalcy from the members of their societies. The use of settings in the novel and film are used as a visual representation of Tilly and Amelie’s isolation. Tilly is “detached” at the top of the hill but able to “[see] everything”, just as Amelie is in her high positioned apartment that overlooks the unfairness in Raymond Dufayel and Lucien’s lives. They experience detachment in different ways, with Amelie growing up “deprived of playmates”, never learning the social skills necessary to enter society, and Tilly being isolated, for being “the dangerous one” and sent away from the society at a young age. They are after the approval of everyone around them as the women
Movies are a great way to take a break from your hectic life and just relax. Movies have been entertaining you and everyone around the world since the mid 1800’s. The evolution movie went from black and white pictures to color and sound to finally 3-D film. Directors, artists, and inventors took hundreds of years to just perfect putting the one by one captured pictures in a fluid motion to make a ten second movie. So, just think about trying to create the 3D effect or even how movies were created.
middle of paper ... ... The scenery was great because it was very descriptive compared to the scenes in the novel. The use of Computer Generated Imagery technology was perfect because it highlighted the scenery making it very vivid, realistic and pleasurable to the eye. The costuming used in the film was very creative, wonderful and perfect because it suited each of the characters class, personality, and it also suited the time period of the 1920s.
La Haine is set in contemporary Paris and highlighting the cultural volatility specifically the lower income districts. The film shows the casual and normal occurrence of violence that the younger generation has in that culture during this specific time of revolt. The three young men, who are of three different ethnicities; Jew, Arab and African, identify with revolt. Though all of these men deal with their oppression differently, it is wise to say that all three of these young men are quite angry in their various identities. They identify with the hate for their culture. The way they act, dress, talk and think stem from the idea hating the environment and all that surrounds them. They're not the only ones that have this sort of mentality in the film though. Actually, there's an entire subculture that the film frames where there is distinct trends and qualities that have stemmed completely off of the idea of hate. The film isolates hate in its most aggressive and deviant form. It highlights the twisted double edge sword of a country in revolt and the products of that country. More importantly, La Haine shows people how to inform about injustice without the act of irrational violence and methods that don’t prove to work.

La Haine is a film that portrays the life of people who live in the projects of Paris. It shows their financial and social problems that they have to partake in on an everyday basis. The main characters, Hubert and Vinz can be viewed as tragic protagonists since they show agency in very different ways but is overpowered by the force of the police; which is shown when Hubert attempts to escape from the projects but falls into conflicts with the police and when Vince undergoes a process of education but leads him to accidently be killed by a police officer. This shows that even though Hubert and Vinz approach their situations very differently they both are still lead to situations where they are overpowered by the police, which symbolically represents
I like the film very much. I think its one of the best films I’ve seen ever. The comedy in the film is just my humour, and the action was okay.
