Personal Statement
My current enrollment to Florida International University’s (FIU) MS in Environmental Studies program proves my interest in the field of “Natural Resource Science and Management”. Coming from Bangladesh, a country that is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, I observed the importance of holistic natural resources management and its complex social dimension. My involvement with different development organizations including United Nations provided hands-on experiences in this field, particularly at the interface of nature, technology and human. During my work I became interested about this multifaceted sector and its intricate but intriguing relationships between society and environment. Hence, after working for seven years, I returned to the school to gain more contemporary insight in this field.
Today, I am a Civil and Environmental Engineer with a MS in Water Resources Development (WRD) from Bangladesh, and I am pursuing a second master’s in Environmental Studies from FIU. With a suite of technical, ecological, and sociological tools in hand, my hope is to focus these skills by pursuing a PhD in Natural Resource Science and Management. In am interested

I have worked on my English rhetoric skill and improved writing and communication in English particularly over the past one and half years by studying and living in an English speaking environment. I’ve also taken advantage of the opportunity to learn geographic data management; I am doing a Graduate Certificate in GIS. This program has advanced my knowledge in GIS and remote sensing focusing its application on water resources. Besides, as a teaching assistant in FIU, I teach Water Resources Assessment lab and Environmental Science and Sustainability lab, which have strengthened my pedagogic ability. These efforts will support me to better manage the demanding responsibilities of a PhD
I am a dedicated, focused student looking to push the boundaries of Engineering Physics with creative out of the box thinking. I have the drive to be successful and positively represent UBC Engineering Physics. I have a passion for physics and math which is why I believe this program is so appealing and a perfect choice. Having already started, run and sold a successful landscaping company, I have experience in entrepreneurship and have determined being an entrepreneur is something I want to pursue in the future. I believe Engineering Physics would give me the opportunity and breadth of knowledge to make my entrepreneurial vision a reality and allow me to find solutions to the issues that will impact the future of humanity. An HBCU is a college/university that embeds the nature of power and black excellence; a place with surroundings that doesn’t force you, but makes you want to push yourself to become a better person inside and out, and throughout the community. Transferring would allow myself to be put in an atmosphere of continuous motivation and growth that I would feed off of my superiors and the people around me.
IMSA’s opportunities are one of the main reasons I am applying. As I want to pursue a career in the medical field, especially in sports medicine. I believe that IMSA’s opportunities will help me achieve these goals of mine through the community and the overall culture at IMSA, and I believe I can contribute to IMSA’s environment by involving myself in the extensive extracurricular activities IMSA has.
The main component I look for in college is their commitment to further my studies. I feel this college will provide an ingenious culture within the science field, therefore rendering myself with the building blocks necessary to later pursue the medical field. Not only does UNCW devote itself towards their student’s undergraduate years, but also by providing Professional pathways such as Pre-Medicine, students such as myself can go into Professional schools better prepared. In addition to my interest in the academics the school has to offer, I also marvel at the amount of extracurricular activities available to the student body. One student organization in particular is the Greek Life. When my mother attended this school, she was an avid member

Not only am I confident that Rutgers University will fully assist me in reaching my personal enrichment, but I have faith that it will help me to achieve my career goals as well. Throughout the years, the Scarlet Knights have surely made a name for themselves in New Jersey. I have yet to decide on a specific major, but attending Rutgers will allow me to get a taste of the many majors the University has to offer. Benefiting from Rutgers is not the question. The real question is how would one not? A degree from Rutgers has a such a strong value. Not just that, but there is a lot of involved with the school and students.

While growing up I had the privilege of learning about farming and ranching while helping my dad and grandfather run the family ranch. I don’t remember considering this as a privilege at the time, but I find humor in how time changes our way of thinking.
Ever since my older brother attended Tarleton State University and talked extremely highly of the time he spent there, I have had a dream of attending there myself when I had the opportunity to. Now that I have the chance to attend this great school I am thrilled at the chance. I became interested in the Environmental Engineering field from my involvement in the FFA. By completing different experiments to compete in the Agri-science Fair, I realized before my senior year that this is what I wanted to pursue in life. I have always had a passion for the scientific and mathematical fields, so I knew that this field would fit my interests perfectly. I have also gained numerous skills form the FFA that I would not have gained had I not joined my
The social and moral implications of diminishing rainforest biodiversity are great. From a human welfare perspective, the livelihoods of tens of millions of indigenous peoples depend on the forests, but thousands are being pushed out of their homes because they lack the shelter and support that the forest once gave them (Salim 3). These groups have "developed knowledge and cultures in accordance with their environment through thousands of years, and even physically they are adapted to the life in the forest" (Nyborg). For many of the people living in these areas, the forest is the only resource they have providing them with food, shelter and cultural ties. With the invasion and destruction of their homeland, rainforest peoples are also disappearing.

Political ecology also involves conflicts between people and institutions over resources, in both developed world and developing world contexts. The use of natural resources and the creation of a sustainable environment is a critical issue that must be observed from different perspectives. Does it permit sustainable resources? Is it a threat to local security? How is income distributed through societies, both gender and location wise? Who decides how these are to be classified? These are key problems in political ecology.
There is no doubt that human activity is having a significant impact on our environment. These environmental impacts include depleting our natural resources, air and water pollution, climate change, destruction of habitats, and loss of biodiversity. Because of these growing concerns, we need to learn how to live sustainably. Living sustainably will allow us to conserve our limited resources more wisely so they will be available for future generations (Withgott & Brennan, 2011, Chapter 1).
