Ever since my older brother attended Tarleton State University and talked extremely highly of the time he spent there, I have had a dream of attending there myself when I had the opportunity to. Now that I have the chance to attend this great school I am thrilled at the chance. I became interested in the Environmental Engineering field from my involvement in the FFA. By completing different experiments to compete in the Agri-science Fair, I realized before my senior year that this is what I wanted to pursue in life. I have always had a passion for the scientific and mathematical fields, so I knew that this field would fit my interests perfectly. I have also gained numerous skills form the FFA that I would not have gained had I not joined my …show more content…
I began to play the trumpet in the fifth grade and have fell in love with it ever since. I have learned not only playing skills from band, but also how to meet others and find shared interests in our lives that may not have been noticeable at first glance. I have been able to make the ATSSB Region band every year of high school, and have used my playing skills to branch out to others. Through band I have also built my leadership skills as section leader of my band. By leading in two different areas I have learned how to balance responsibilities and also make sure tasks are accomplished. While in high school, I have been able to achieve different high achievements. These include the National Honor Society and the Hispanic Honor Society. I have been able to join these two through the hard work and dedication I put into my schoolwork as well as extracurricular activities. I have also attained the second highest degree within the FFA Organization, the state degree. To attain this I had to put in community service hours and hours involved in different Supervised Agricultural Experiences, or SAEs, where I focused on an agricultural related activity and recorded all I did for
should be a part of the Tri-M Music Honor Society in recognition of my musical achievements. In addition, I should be a part of the Tri-M Music Honor Society so that I may better continue to inspire other people to be musicians and leaders. If I were accepted into the Tri-M Music Honor Society, I would continue to work towards mastering my instrument, the trumpet, and I would continue to be a leader within the Quince Orchard H.S. Music Department. If I were accepted into the Tri-M Music Honor Society, I would bring many talents to the organization. One of the talents that I would bring to the Tri-M Music Honor Society would be my talent for performing on the trumpet. I would also bring my talent for being a leader into the organization. Thank
I became a nurse in 1992. I had graduated high school in 1989 and discovered that I lacked a vision of the profession I would be involved in over the course of my adult life. I was involved in the pursuit of a career of teaching music to high school children based upon a passion for performing arts as a teen aged student. I discovered that I enjoyed performing as a trumpet player, but I did not trul...
I am always practicing and I work hard for all the things that I have now and I want to continue that growth. I’ve gone to Area two years in a row and I’ve gone to State Solo and Ensemble every year that I have been a band student at Longview High School. I believe that if I was drum major I would be able to practice more and finally be able to go to state on the French Horn. I also was considering becoming a band director in the future and I figured that becoming a drum major would give me some experience and new opportunities that I wouldn’t be able to have if I was just another band student. I want to be drum major because they are always working hard and are always improving the band. I also would love to be drum major because I would want to inspire others just like me like Lady inspired me. She made me realize that I could help the band more than I already was by helping and leading the band in everything that we have done. Many of the candidates are far more invested in being able to wear the uniform and being able to brag about being the drum major rather than being invested in being able to help the directors and the band students when they need
One extracurricular activity that I am very passionate about would be the FFA. FFA has taught me so many things and it has brought me so many places. I 've learned how to be a great speaker from different events my advisor has challenged me to do. Public speaking has taken me so many places and I have attributed most of my success to FFA. When I was a freshmen I competed and received gold in the creed speaking competition. As a sophomore, I tried extemporaneous speaking and received a gold for that as well. As a junior I really wanted to challenge myself so I took up agricultural sales as my winter career development experience. I ended up being recognized as the state runner up individual agriculture salesman as well as the 15th best agricultural sales man in the nation. Now as a senior, I have been going around speaking at different school board meetings, advocating
One of the biggest decisions of my high school career came my sophomore year when I decided to try out for the role of drum major in my high school band. This decision was very tough to make due to the fact that I was a sophomore, and although I already had three years of experience under my belt as a band member at Northview High School, I knew that it would be very tough to earn the respect of my peers if I succeeded in becoming drum major. Out of the three years I had spent in the band, the biggest influence on my decision to try out came from my very first marching season, between August and December of 2012. From that year forward, after seeing many areas that the band could improve, watching how underclassmen and middle school band members
Where I learned how to become a leader through the leadership ensemble within the marching band. Where in my senior and fourth year of marching competitively, I became the Drum Major, and earned the Best Drum Major Award at the Roxbury Marching Band Classic Competition. From marching band I progressed into jazz music, where I became the lead alto saxophonist in the top jazz band at my school during my junior and senior year. I was also one of three saxophonists in the top band at my school. I picked up the clarinet, the flute, and the soprano saxophone on my way through high school, and have played all three as well in my performing ensembles. I played in the pit orchestra of the theater production of “All Shook Up”, and was the principal saxophonist at my high school. Too be short, I am very involved in all things music in the past and currently. Band and music have been a place for me to rely on, something that brings me joy when sad. Allows me to express myself through sounds and through instruments. It is truly a talent and a hobby that I hope to continue through college and through life because of the joy it brought me and creative outlet it was throughout my
Within school, I have participated in Glee Club/Chorus and Drama Club. I have a strong interest and love of both and hope to continue with them in the future. Last year, I had the privilege of being selected for our school's select choir, North Naturals. The Congregation Sons of Israel in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania honored us with the chance to perform at their annual Holocaust Memorial Service. The Messiah College Women's Choir also invited us to perform as a guest in their annual spring concert, in which I performed a solo, along with some members of the Women's Chorus. This year, I consider it a great prestige to say I participate in my school's select choir for ninth- and tenth-graders- Cantamos. In Drama Club, I have performed a variety
There are a lot of reasons why I chose to pursue pharmacy as my career and they all point to the most important reason: pharmacy is a great fit for my life and is something I have become increasingly passionate about. It started when I was researching careers with my parents and my dad suggested pharmacy and, simply put, it sparked my interest because at the time it was one of the few things I thought I would not hate doing. A healthcare career has always been where I put myself in the future, mainly because most of my family members are in the healthcare field. However, I have never been one that could directly help the wounded or deal with anything gory, but am very intrigued by the growing science of pharmacy. As I continue exploring pharmacy, the more I enjoy learning about it and feel like I could excel in this career.
I'm tough on myself, much like most people my age. So I feel like I haven't accomplished a lot, but I have. This essay prompt really made me think and a million achievements rushed into my head. My entire high school career has been focused around band. I've made many achievements throughout my high school band experience. I've gotten nothing but gold medals at solo and ensemble competitions and always had a perfect grade in the class. Most of all, I've been building my leadership position, and now I'm a field commander. It was a tough road, but I've made it very, very far. Band is an experience that has gifted me various skills and unforgettable memories.
Please discuss the following items in the order given. Briefly respond to all areas listed.
Music has always been an important part of my life. During high school I have developed areas of service and leadership through interests in children and gardening, which will continue to be major parts of my life.
Whoosh!A bed whizzed by, surrounded by about 6 medical personnel. “What’s going on?” I thought immediately with apprehension. I knew whatever was happening it was not ideal. Ensuring I was not in the way, I stood on my toes to see what demanded so much attention. To my astonishment, I saw a coin sized hot-pink little girl. She could not have been bigger than two quarters lying side by side. She was struggling! Even with all the procedures the doctors were executing to save her life, she was performing the most work.
Since the beginning of my academic endeavors, I have long cherished a dream to be a member of the social science research community, which gives our society progressive insights into human ecology. I began my undergraduate studies at Ramapo College of New Jersey with a passion for ecological justice and with the intention of majoring in environmental studies. Ramapo College’s progressive liberal arts foundation provided me with ample room to explore the multifarious array of social science courses. As I took more social science courses, however, my understanding of human social groups underwent a metamorphosis. As a result, I decided to pursue a degree in Social Science, with minors in the two fields I felt most passionately interested in, Women’s Studies and African American Studies.
I play the oboe, and earlier this year I achieved a distinction at grade VIII. I have been very lucky to play in my school Symphony Orchestra, which has been an enjoyable experience, as well as Concert band. I also play in a wind quintet at school and sing in one of the choirs. Out of school, I play oboe in Birmingham Schools Baroque Orchestra and contra-bass recorder in B.S. Recorder Sinfonia. Earlier this year I performed in the National Festival of Music for Youth, in Symphony Hall, with the Sinfonia, and I have just been asked to play solo recorder in a concerto with B.S.B.O. later this year. I intend to continue playing music at university.
Technology is increasing exponentially, and now I am a part of that ‘future’. When I look into my future, I see myself working toward the minimization of the human imprint in our world more specifically energy consumption. Being an Electrical Engineer, clean energy is an area that I am deeply passionate about. We are part of an ecosystem which is threatened every day by our wastes. Yes! We do use recycling, wind turbines, and hydraulics, but we need to take advantage of these to produce cleaner energy. To get closer to my passion, I will master in Mechanical Engineering so that I can have a clear understanding of the interactions of electronics and their mechanics. I believe every engineer should take some type of environmental courses to understand the direct effects of engineering in our surroundings. Therefore, one my academic goals is to study the environment so that when I create something I have thought of the ways it may impact nature. When I imagine my finish line, I see myself working alongside others who want to build a greener planet, who want to see oil-free oceans, and who can coexist with nature. I believe that engineering is the way to move towards this future and it is the reason why I decided to pursue it. In H.A.C.U, I will meet people who share similar views as me, who are willing to collaborate ideas,
