1. External validity refers to the degree to which the outcomes of a study can be conceptualized into settings and populations that go further beyond the conditions of the study. The purpose of external validity is to branch out of the conditions of the study to see if the study has validity outside of the study conditions. Internal validity refers to the extent to which the outcome of an experiment was actually generated by the experimental stimulus and not by other causes. The purpose of internal validity is to verify whether the stimulus of the experiment did or did not have the main role in producing the outcome of the experiment. Qualitative research methods usually consist of group discussions, face-to-face interviews, participations, observations, and the sampling is generally small. Quantitative research is numerical data that generates into valid statistics. It is used to calculate attitudes, views, and actions and generate the results into a large sample population. Quantitative research methods usually consist of surveys (online, paper, mobile, and kiosk). Other methods include: face-to-face interviews, telephone interviews, long-term studies, online polls, and systematic observations. In conclusion, qualitative research focuses on non-numerical interpersonal research, while quantitative research focuses on numerical data collections. 3. Social work research is often defined as the act of investigating a social problem that is directly affecting their clients. Social work research is conducted to explore a topic, to observe, and then to describe what was observed. Research not only allows social workers to expand their personal knowledge within a practice area, but it can also benefit their clients and even society from a policy or legislative level. Social workers are often encouraged to develop theories and hypotheses on social problems that predominantly affect their clients. Students who are earning their Master of Social Work degree may find that this is best accomplished through being part of established professional development programs, or as an individual research project that can ultimately benefit their practice and provide rewarding experience in social work
