What does it mean to “be free ” ? “What does it mean to be free?” Well there are several meanings to being “free”. Freedom is one of those things that not everyone has, but those who don’t have it want it more than anything and those who do have it take it for granted. Being free means you can say what you want, do what you want, wear what you want, learn what you want, and own what you want. Some people are under rulers that do not allow these freedoms, some people live under rulers that encourage these freedoms. Everyone human being should be free, however some are not so lucky. In my opinion what it means to be free is several different things. One is your basic freedoms such as: being free to put on any kind of clothes, haircut, and we can say what we want at where we want to do it, just like President Roosevelt said, “The first is freedom of speech and expression” (Roosevelt, 275). He said about this in his “Four Freedoms” speech. For him people were born with the fight of speech nobody can take it. In the “Four Freedoms” speech President Roosevelt talks about how he fears the rights and freedom of the citizens of the United States are in danger. That is one example of our freedoms. …show more content…
They always say “The pen is mightier than the sword”, that is because we can use our words to fight back any type of weapon in the world. Malala Yousafzai said that to every woman, every boy, and every girl who have raised their voice for their rights. She wasn’t afraid of any terrorist or extremist. She also said she wants an extremists kid to be educated, she wants extremists to be educated, she wants all people to be
According to Dictionary.com freedom means “the state of being uncontrolled by another, or at liberty rather than in confinement or under physical restraint.” Freedom. What does freedom mean to you? Even though freedom means the state of being uncontrolled by another, or at liberty rather than in confinement or under physical restraint, I believe that freedom means being able to accomplish what you desire and when you desire it without anyone saying anything, by reason of the comparison and contrast of our society and the society in the book Anthem by Ayn Rand, the negation of the word freedom, and synonyms of the word freedom. I believe that you should accept the consequences of the actions you take when you have your “freedom” as well.
The journey of Malala’s life has been fighting to get education for young girls of Pakistan. Malala wants to show everyone how valuable girls are and that they don’t need to be hidden away from the public, “My mother always told me,’hide your face, people are looking at you.’ I would reply, ‘it does not matter; I am also looking at them’” (Yousafzai 43). Malala will no longer stand for
People should benefit from freedom, equality and justice. Absolute freedom is sometimes very dangerous and may destroy the basic principles of the society. A lot of people believe that freedom means doing whatever you want, whenever you want.
Roosevelt speech was dictated in his small study on the second floor of the Whitehouse on January 1st, 1941. His speech was founded on the four essential human freedoms; freedom of speech, worship, freedom from want and freedom from fear. These freedoms symbolized America’s war aims and gave hope to a war-wearied people as they now knew they were fighting for freedom.
This can mean many things to different people depending on how it is interpreted. However, I interpret being free as being able to do whatever one desires with no worries at all. This only comes when a person has a great mind to believe that something greater is waiting for them after the hard battle they are dealing with is over. The determined minds that believe anything is possible if work is put in and there is no giving up. These are the people that will prosper and become “free”. Everyone is capable of doing this, it is just putting your mind to work. In today’s society, people are not as mentally tough as they were before. Their minds are too distracted by phones, computers, the internet, drama, and all they stressful and unnecessary things that are believe to be necessary. They are too caught up with these things that time is wasted and that time could have been used to work and plan something increible. Time is something that cannot be bought, it just goes and does not stop. The average person needs to be able to recognize this and then devise a plan to be able to do more than just be
There are many definitions of the term "freedom." Some will say that to be free one must be allowed to do as one pleases in terms of one's physical body, while others will say that one must only be able to think to be truly free. Yet another group will argue that both aspects must be present for true freedom to exist.
In conclusion, freedom is having power to inflict a positive change on the world. The ability to be yourself and not change for anyone. The right to choose who rules and who doesn’t rule. Having a chance to get out there and show the world what your all about and who you really are. These are all definitions of freedom and what it truly means to be
Women in America do not have to worry about a terrorist group coming and taking their rights away. They have a government that protects them from these groups and makes sure they have the same rights as others. In the Middle East, especially Afghanistan and Pakistan, women are scared to speak too loudly. These women live in fear each day of their lives because if they make one small mistake it could mean their life. Yet, there are some people who are fighting for women’s rights, especially women’s education. Malala Yousafzai is a girl who fought for women’s education. At the age of eleven, Malala began writing a blog for BBC Urdu. The blog described how she was upset that women’s education under the Taliban would be forced to stop. Malala also appeared on national television talking about women’s education. She has become a symbol of resistance against the Taliban. Even after Malala was put on the Taliban’s hit list, she continues to speak out about what she felt needed to be said. Malala would give her life for this cause, and she almost did. On October 9, 2012, Malala was on her way home from her morning classes when a man walked on to her bus and asked, “Who is Malala”. When she said it was her he shot her. The bullets hit her head and her leg. The Taliban ordered for her to be shot because she was promoting western culture in Pashtun areas. In another case Mukhtar Mai stood up for women’s rights and was sexually assaulted by multiple men with orders from the tribal council. The tradition in Mukhtar’s tribe was that a woman who is sexually assaulted by multiple men should kill herself, but instead of committing suicide she fought for her cause (Samira 28-30). Although the Taliban restricts women’s education for religious reaso...
“I am no bird; and no net ensnares me: I am a free human being with an independent will.” ― Charlotte Brontë. Freedom is an idea with no concrete explanation. Every person has their own beliefs of what it means to be free because no one has the same experiences. Experiences vary from person to person and influence their view on the seven letter word - freedom. Because of differing perspectives, freedom generally translates into the ability to do as one desires; it is defined as having freewill. To be free is to have no restraints upon one’s being.
Looking the word “freedom” up in the dictionary, I encounter with the following definition: the condition or right of being able or allowed to do, say, think, etc. whatever you want to, without being controlled or limited.¹³ Then, we can assume when you are unable to say things you would like to say, or to think in a different way than the one that has been imposed to you, you are not wholly free.
Freedom is the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. In America there is numerous of choices that someone may make on a daily basis. If someone were allowed to make their own choices and were being told what to do; then they would not be free. When someone is allowed to speak when they want to, and say what they want; such as their opinion or view of something. Being allowed to have a right to speak is one of the most important characteristics of being an American. Thinking and stating your opinion in any predicament it a strong part in being a citizen because people in the United States are known for being able to think in their own ways. Freedom is having the right to own, act, think, and speak without any restrictions from the outside. Ever since the New World was discovered, people have been fighting for their independence till this day. People of other colors and race have been forced to do labor without their consent. Today, those same people have been blamed or accused of crimes that were not committed by them despite of being free. Freedom has different meanings and those meanings change overtime; however sometimes the significance of freedom does not change.

Not everyone believed that workers’ rights needed to be changed, which led to a long battle between workers, employers and the government. To the working class people freedom meant making higher wages, having regulated hours, workable conditions and the right to free speech.

When referring to freedom these words are often associated with freedom: Liberty, independence, sovereignty, autonomy, privilege, immunity, and indulgence. Everyone has the right to life, liberty, and justice. Independence is granted by freedom in the sense that an outside party does not control you. To gratify ones desires by whichever ways they choose is freedom through indulgence. Privileges are g ranted through freedom. In some countries the dictator or ruler makes choices for their people on regards to what profession they shall have or to what religion they shall worship.
