1. Because I am from the United States, Canada and the US share many similar qualities in a household. The most challenging aspect of staying in any homestay, however, is learning to live by yourself. Another challenging thing in regards to staying in a Canadian homestay is adjusting to the different foods and brands here. Although the food isn't dramatically different from where I am from, it was slightly difficult to adjust at first. 2. What I really like about staying in a Canadian homestay is that the families make sure to include you as part of their own family. They are super friendly and treat you not as a guest, but as a member of the household. They are also very helpful when it comes to re-stocking everyday household things. My homestay
family is also very encouraging when it comes to exploring Canada by myself or with a friend. They encourage me to expand my bubble that centers around my room, and go to explore what Canada has to offer. 3. To any other student moving from the United States to Canada, I would like to encourage them to bring any snacks or favorite food from home because it may be hard to find something similar to it in Canada. It also serves as a reminder of home if you may become home-sick.
Finally, if the comparison were ever made a survey, it would really show the full scale of Americanization in Canada. But until now we can only see from the daily life, how American culture is inviting Canada. Today more then ever, Canadians are in real danger of loosing their national identity. It is unfortunate that if the study of this cultural influence will be done few years later, it might be too late to save Canadian culture and identity.
As the old saying goes, “History has a way of repeating itself.” This is demonstrated in many of the world’s events. With deeper insight into past conflicts, there is usually a repeating theme present. In the Cellist of Sarajevo the reader is introduced to four major characters and is taken through the minds of these characters to see the ever lasting effects that war has on peoples mental and physical states. We will also be comparing this novel to the essay righting of What Canada Means to me written by Elijah Harper. This essay takes its reader through the eyes of a Native American who was forcibly taken away from his family and forced to go to Canadian schools and leave behind his culture behind. The reader can easily identify the elements
idea of what it is to be Canadian rather than always identifying with the place
In doing so I will demonstrate the hardships that many individuals from diverse cultures face by choosing to take on a new identity in a new country. It is not easy leaving behind what is familiar and welcoming a new identity, having to build a new home. I take this subject very personally as my parents’ immigration process to Canada was one of hardship and joy, it also made them feel alienated at times. Through discovering Canada and the different cultures it holds they welcomed it and started a family in a new land. In doing so they experienced the accepting and amicable nature that Canada held in
What does being Canadian mean to me? Well I think we do have several experiences and values that we generally share (although not necessarily all at the same time). Things like hockey, poutine, maple syrup, our environment and all that as well as a respect for democracy, individual and reasonably limited rights and freedoms. We won’t share all of these interest and experiences—that merely make us human—but I think that not only does it play a role in what makes us Canadian, but also how we view Canada. However, through this course, I have learned that there is another way of looking at Canada, through geographical lenses. It’s a concept that focuses on the idea that there is more to places/landscapes/nature then there is. It doesn’t just show
All people are raising and educating according to principles and rules in their motherland. Firstly, before moving to Canada immigrants should make research about cultural differences between Canada and their country of origin. According to Gignac (2013) Canada is very attractive for people who are looking for economic stability and possibilities, as well as for peaceful and safe place. However to take advantage of all opportunities, immigrants should find as much as they can about Canada, about what and who is important in Canadians life and why. Small things like for example small talks can make newcomers life easier, can help to find friends or create a distance between Canadians and im...
Canada, at first, may seem like a thoroughly, uncaptivating country to explore if your home-country is America. Since the two countries are practically relatives, due to their proximity, they have many similarities. For instance, they both speak English, are geographically vast in land placement, and they have similar measures of diversity. However, one of the more noticeable differences between America and Canada are their social and cultural activities. Canadians social activities are very specific to Canada due to a variety of diversity that melds together into its own cultural topic. Canadians are mainly known for their unique accent, which comes from their culturally diverse history.
Many things make Canada distinct, for example, if one was to examine Canada's neighbour “United States of America,” they will remind us of their army force and how violent they will be if any country has a conflict with them, for example, North Korea as both theses countries are in a violent conflict. However, if one was to look at Canada they will be known as “the peacekeepers.” Canada would stop fights and not encourage them. This country is very diverse and can be compared to a jigsaw puzzle as it has many “pieces” of individuals from all around the world. In some other countries, this is not the case, for example, in Argentina, they lack diversity. Secondly, Canadians are proud of their countries
Canada is a great place to live, because it is very diverse. country. The sand is a sand. It is multicultural, it’s considered a Melting Pot. Many people from many nations come together to make this country special and unique to us.

My thoughts on the relationships with Canadians and non-Canadians is pretty good. The reason is because there are people from other countries who choose to live here. And they have even share some of their culture by opening up restaurants and spas. Some people even show dances from their countries. For example the theater show Shen Yun is an ancient Chinese dance show that is held in Toronto every year. There’s even a district in Toronto called China Town. China Town is a district in Toronto where you can take a walk and get a little bit of a feel what it’s like to live in China. People from places like Sweden open up a Spa that offers massages in a very comfortable. People from Japan do the same thing. One thing that they offer is a pool
Being an international student is exciting. It offers a lot of exposure and scope for improvement. Canada has a lot of institutions that accept foreign students, but before that, the practical difficulties an international student might face in the country should be noted.
Something that makes Canada unique to me is what people and I personally would call it,”The white, snowy cold nation” in the north. I heard this from an American Commentator and it’s very true. Also, People in the country are very kind and polite. They are very patient and it makes the country more open and very accepting. This country is unique because it’s so multicultural. We so many cultures. Canada is very special for their famous word “eh” and the famous sport of hockey was invented in Canada. What’s so special is Poutine, a very famous dish filled with goodness. So many things are unique and special about Canada and that’s why Canada is

Living in another country is a difficult experience for many people. A common feature of people living in a foreign country is finding them Gathered together in restaurants, discussing about their home and their experiences in the foreign country. Moreover, these groups are not all from the same home country. Often, the interests that landed them in a foreign country are enough to connect them in building the foundations of friendship, like studying same major. However, the only thing that you can see obvisely is fear. As a Saudi student in USA I can say we often have to deal with many administration issues that may even result to the cancellation of one’s citizenship. Like getting USA Green Card. There is a fear of living in another country that never goes regardless of the period that one has lived in a foreign country. However, the interests that landed them in a foreign country, including education and business. It’s the same even the student didn’t come from same place. in fact that they didn't came from the same mother country. This will presents the argument that people living in another country are subject to change depending in economic and political way in order for them to fit in the new country.
