In dealing with Integrated Marketing Communications chapter, I would throw the National Football League (NFL), as my choice for meeting the standard of the text. I know they are not thought of as a great company, but they are highly successful and profitable. In the 1970's, Major League Baseball (MLB), was king, and looked like they would stay there. The the late 70's and early 80's, the NFL started marketing their product in more and different markets, not just beer commercials or airports. With the advent of cable and satellite TV, they expanded their brand and took off in the early 90's as the nations number one sport. They control and export not just games, but many items associated with the NFL brand, they have a successful TV network,
expanded the time games are played to Thursday, and Sunday evening, to go with Sunday games and Monday Night Football. Every player is a spokesman, and their conduct is to reflect that. In today's market place of sports entertainment, the NFL reigns supreme, in terms of profit, attendance, and fan appreciation, due to their integrated marketing strategies. One example is this years draft, in the 80's it was held during the work week and completed in two days, for 15 rounds, now they moved it to prime time on Thursday April 30th. They changed the venue, day, and time, and scored market bonus, because it was on every fans mind for such a long time. They have had many successes, but also some black eyes, due to players health concerns while playing and after they retire. They need to get to the front of the issues on health, and find a way to minimize the health related concerns people have abut playing the sport. If they can show they are engaged and not just paying lip service, I believe they can garner even higher marketing shares.
“If you try to sell products to everybody, you can waste money on advertising to people who aren't interested (Johnston, n.d.). The statement is true in the sports business industry. Many organizations and companies will waste money on marketing to consumers who just are not interested. Creating and understanding the consumer profile of the target market an organization is trying to reach is essential when gaining fans and having successful business. For this assignment, I chose the NFL team, the Minnesota Vikings.

When you think of football you think of excitement or rooting for your favorite team. Unfortunately, we forget to realize the side effect of the helmet crashing hits. Football players endure a total of 1,500 hits to the head in one season which can cause one major problem: a concussion. We can imply that liberals stand for the rights of the people over the rights of the corporations. Four formal NFL players have sued the league and its helmet maker claiming they hid information about the dangers of brain injury. With that said from a libertarians perspective, NFL players should be informed about the dangers of brain injury from helmet making companies and should receive medical care for past, current and future NFL players.

The freedom of speech is granted in the First Amendment of the Constitution. In Case 1, the players of a NFL team who were dismissed and fired for kneeling during the Pledge of Allegiance cannot sue the NFL for violation of freedom of speech. The reason why the players couldn’t sue the NFL, is because the NFL is a private company. This means that there is no state action involved, so they do not have a case. In Case 2, players on a private school football team is removed, because they were kneeling during the Pledge of Allegiance. The players can’t sue the school for violating their speech rights, because the students are in a private school and not in a public school. This means that there is no case, due to no state action being involved.
