Have you ever had an important test coming up that could make or break your grade, but instead of preparing for the test you’d rather hang out with your friends? It happens to a lot of students, this is called procrastination. Mason Cooley said it best when he stated that, “Procrastination makes easy things hard, hard things harder”, which is a prime example of the effects procrastination has on students and their productivity. Many students today fail homework, tests, and quizzes because of procrastination. If a teacher or professor were to ask any of their classes if they have ever procrastinated, around 80 percent would agree and raise their hands. I personally am a part of that 80 percent and would’ve risen my hand in those classes.

As a student, the only option for students and myself, is to learn how to manage doing our course work without falling behind on the time we have left to finish it. The best solution is to go to the local library and do our work and study there. This solution to procrastination is the best for a couple reasons. The library being local, is also very convenient for that you don’t have to go far to get peace and quiet. With the library being quiet like it is, makes it to be one of the best places to go and study for test and do homework. A quiet environment helps a student like myself keep their attention on doing their work instead of what’s going on around them. An important factor about the library for me is that the atmosphere is that of a classroom. This may sound unpleasant for some students, but with the library giving off this feeling helps me really be in the mood to do work. When it comes to big exams that can determine your final grade, blowing off study sessions to be with your friends may not be the wisest choice to make during that time. With more study time and effort put into the lives of students to resolve their procrastination, grades and test scores for all students could increase significantly. The most important step is for students to find a solution to their procrastination, whether it be going to the library after school to study, putting away distracting unnecessary technology, or listening to calming and relaxing music that will help block outside distractions.
