Hi Dr. Biggins,
Yes , I have witnessed occupation injustice at my work place. At this time I am treating a client in ICU who was admitted from a SNF . Per her medical history history chart, client has been non ambulatory for two years, and she was dependent with all self-care except with self-feeding and simple grooming tasks. Client is highly motivated to participate in skilled OT services, and she is able to stand with Max assistance, yet at the nursing home she never received skilled occupational therapy services to increase participation in occupational performance. Client was deprived OT skilled services at the SNF to restore independence with ADLs and IADLs, yet she has capability to increase functional performance with the help of
In the novel A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, many forms of social injustice towards women in Afghanistan are present. The characters face social injustice from family, relationships, society and are forced to endure them throughout their lives until they realize that the only way to bring justice is to fight back.
Even though Native Americans belong to a federally recognized tribe, which are sovereign nations, they are still U.S. citizens. When a crime is committed in America the citizens expect for victims to get justice. Native tribes have a different judicial system than the U.S.. Many Native Americans don’t know what justice is, they only know injustice. Louise Erdrich author of the best selling book “The Round House” demonstrates this in her most prominent theme justice vs. injustice. Whether it be for Native people or others justice will always need to be around for a somewhat peaceful world in which to live in.
As Stadnyk, Townsend & Wilcock (2010) state, occupational justice is based upon the idea that individuals all have different needs, which are expressed through their occupations with the belief that all humans are occupational beings (Stadnyk, 2010). Through this approach, occupational justice or injustices can be seen within the contexts of geographic location, individuals and communities. Based upon moral, ethical and political ideas of justice, occupations are culturally defined and influence participation (Stadnyk, 2010). The framework of occupational justice uses structural and contextual factors to describe occupational outcomes in relation to occupational justice and injustice. Occupational injustice is defined as, “some members of society
Privilege is a certain advantage given to one group of people to benefit them at the expense of the disadvantaged group. Popular examples include privileges regarding race, gender, sexual preference, class, and ability. McIntosh explains the concept of privilege as being in possession of an “invisible backpack of unearned assets” that one can “count on cashing in each day,” while remaining ignorant of having the backpack in the first place. While one person may carry around a backpack full of these tools, another person is walking around with nothing in their backpack. The tools provided by privilege are utilized every day to guide the advantaged group in their journey, but the advantaged group is not even aware of the backpack’s strength. On the contrary, the disadvantaged group without backpacks observe their advantaged counterparts skate through life with all these resources to aid them while they trek through the obstacles of life empty-handed.
This research paper is a case study focusing on the discrimination of workers living with a disease or illness. I chose this topic based on the need to educate others on the signs of workplace discrimination. Job discrimination in the workplace can effect many people in many different situations. This particular study chooses to focus on those individuals living with a terminal illness.
...nly distributed, and no traces of economic justice even exist. People living in poverty need some kind of hope, some sign that their government has not forgotten them. The truth is, there are plenty of people who do care, and there are many efforts to help. The discrepancies are simply too big to go unnoticed, and a change is inevitable. As for right now, the trend continues. The rich get super-richer, the poor get poorer
It is assumed that our lives and the lives of our families could ultimately be at risk without the regulation and authority of our government. The same government which protects us, also damages us, and others from countries around us. It is more than apparent that in our world suffering does exist. However, outlining suffering goes beyond the physical pain. To a degree there is a level of suffering that most of us (U.S. Citizens) can never relate to. There is a suffering unbeknownst to us; because we have never been subjected to it by our governments and institutions. We are a free people, entrusted to ourselves that we have the capacity to take care of ourselves and our own. Others aren’t so lucky.
tically analyse discrimination and inequality in the community, identify, and discuss how this may affect your role as a social care practitioner.
greater freedom of expression, religion, and sexuality in developed nations. Immigrant discrimination regarding the Hispanic community has become a prevalent issue within the past decades. In the United States, members of the Hispanic community have been discriminated against unfairly for various reasons. Examples of general discrimination include: difficulty in securing jobs due to immigrant status, educational laws for immigrants that do not have proper paperwork, and the realistic fear of deportation. In addition to these discriminations, Hispanics immigrants are often treated with unfair suspicion by others. These issues do not only affect an individual but rather their families as well. Recently, problems with these issues have increased
One such unfair situation was when people cheated on history worksheets. Many people would copy down the work of one person rather than doing the work themselves. While it seemed unfair that their grade was similar to mine, I continued to do my own assignments and complete the work on time. Eventually, though, this unfair way came full circle. When a test or quiz would be given, the people that had been copying down work would often struggle. They had not learned the content since they had not completed the worksheets on their own. Meanwhile, the hard work that I had put into completing my worksheets paid off as I knew the tested content well.
First, employers should not underpay their employees with strong calling as it may be negative for the balance of the company. While it is often argued that these highly passionate individuals may be exploited by management more easily than others (Bunderson and Thompson 2009), which is said to be good for the employer as it allows him to reduce his costs, we would suggest that it is not a sustainable situation. It is immoral to exploit somebody and it could do great damage to the company if revealed by the press for instance. Similarly, this unethical situation may lead to the development of a feeling of injustice towards the company as the individual feels that he is not rewarded as much as he should be. This is a phenomenon called “distributive injustice” (Daniels, Norman, 1990).
The illegal immigrant population would not receive social justice from the bill due to the eligibility criteria that state recipients must be either a homeless and foster youth and under the age of 23 year old. This is a form of social injustice because individuals are being treated with inequality due to the fact that homeless and foster care youth population are being awarded with more opportunities and assistance with higher education access for success vs the illegal immigrant whom have limited support for success. Under the human rights bill it states that all individuals are created equal and should be offer equal opportunities, however, this bill demonstrates the complete opposite. In addition, there should be equal access to educational

What most people do not know is that in our world today, people that have all of these disabilities are dictated treated poorly between their bosses at work or even their peers. There had obviously been laws in place that prevent disability discrimination, however, some people continue to go along with this social inequality. When a person is discriminated against for having a disability, being assumed to have a disability, or having a connection with a disabled person, this is considered disability discrimination. Disability discrimination can be shown in anywhere, sometimes even without the bully knowing they were doing it. Different kinds of disability discrimination include the abysmal harassment of an employee based on their disability, asking the disabled person background information on their medical conditions, separating the disabled people from everybody else, or refusing to give a person a job specifically because they are disabled. These forms of harassment are based toward disabled people in a place of work, but work is not the only situation in which this social inequality occurs. Disability discrimination happens all over the world, and in no way, shape, or form should it happen in 2017, but it
Although some of the worst employment discrimination was eliminated by the Civil Rights Act in 1964, many women continue to undergo unfair and unlawful discrimination in the workplace. Even though women have come a long way, they are still being discriminated against in certain fields of work. High-end jobs, most commonly large companies and medical fields, continue to discriminate against women even though they have the same job qualifications as men.
