In the novel, ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’ by Harper Lee some characters suffer in the hands of justice and fairness more than others. Many characters in the novel are discriminated against such as Calpurnia, Dolphus Raymond, Helen Robinson, Burris Ewell and more. In a world in which a person is not compensated for his work, he would no longer work as diligently. Often times, a person will work in order to receive a reward. This reward then helps him to gain more rewards in the future. This can be seen in a game of rummy when a player must play each hand carefully in order to benefit himself in later hands. Intelligence has begun to define individuals globally, but the goal of the minimum grading system is fairness and equality. Fair share grading is when all students in the class take an intended exam, but the class average score of the test is given to every student. The United States Federal Communications Commission, also known as the FCC, introduced the Fairness Doctrine to make broadcasters report controversial issues of public importance in a manner that was equally balanced, honest, and fair. Broadcasting companies were required to provide a certain amount of airtime reporting accurate and fair information both for and against public issues. Broadcasters were not required to provide equal time for opposing views, but were required to present opposing viewpoints. Some fear that not cheating will weaken a student’s ability to compete with their peers. They rationalize their unethical behavior, unwilling to accept a poor grade, consequently justifying cheating as the only means to that end.
School systems today are so lenient in their rules, guidelines and consequences; thus causing cheating, copying or forgeries to be frequently used. Many students take advantage of copying someone else's work whenever they are given the chance. Other times, students will simply have someone else do their work and turn it in as their own, not realizing the effects this behavior can create. This creates a lack of creativity, no sense of responsibility and the students will never acquire new knowledge. These practices of cheating, copying and forgery by students are unethical and should be brought to the surface whenever possible.

However, one of the most important and under-talked about issues is plagiarism. Along with it being illegal, the taboo subject of plagiarism is plaguing educational institutions, and has been for decades. For example a teacher has many students, and at the beginning of the semester, or the beginning of their teaching career, they choose to grade fairly and to give students grades depending of the scores of the homework, tests, and participation. This is the right ethical way to grade for the teacher. If the teacher has a student who tries really hard, and puts in the time outside of class, and has a tutor, but in the end just has a hard time with the subject matter. Would that student deserve to get a failing grade just because they are slower than the rest of the class. Why does the smart kid who has to put forth no effort, and everything just comes natural, get the good grade. I think that teachers are more inclined to give the student who tries so hard a passing grade, when the numbers are the things that should determine the grade.
Cheating is unacceptable no matter what type of situation it is. After reading about the Atlanta Public School scandal, and finding out the consequences that were given to the teachers, I totally agree that the behavior for the teachers were not justifiable. If you break the law, then you’re going to be punished and there’s no other way around it. I do believe that the long jail sentence given to the convicted teachers were a bit insane, but the teachers know all consequences of every law they break before agreeing to teach. In my opinion, the punishments don’t fit the crime because we have criminals and drug dealers on the street free but teachers in jail because they changed answers on an elementary school test. The justice system doesn’t always make sense sometimes, but at the end of the day, we all know the consequences if we commit the crime.
