In 1971, at the T. C. Williams High School, Boone is appointed the head coach job to try and prevent racial tensions to arise. He eventually accepts the offer when he sees what it means to the black community. Yoast is then asked to be the assistant coach's and initially refuses, but reconsiders after the white players will not play without him. Yoast takes up the position of defensive coach under Boone. The black students have a meeting in the gymnasium but Yoast and white students interrupt the meeting. The players later travel to a training camp and black and white football team members frequently clash in racially motivated conflicts. This can relate to the example given above. Another example is in the scene where Alan decides to give up his chance to play in the final game because he knew Petey deserved it more than him. It was a selfless and generous act. He knew Petey would contribute to the overall performance of the team so he sacrificed his position because did not want to be the reason their team lost the game. Issues that are seen as unethical Conflict of interest is seen with the coaches and captains. It is seen with Ray and Gerry. The concerns of the two players were not compatible.
