Aluminum Foil
Marshmallows (different colors) /or Gumdrops

Anticipatory Set/Opening/Hook:
Distribute pieces of aluminum foil. Inquire if the students know what it is made of... (Aluminum). Tell them to rip it in half. After, tell them to keep ripping it in half until it cannot be ripped any smaller and they must look under a microscope to see it.
When they get the smallest piece explain that it is called an atom. Further, they can only been under a special microscope called an electron microscope. They are so tiny that a million of them could fit in the head of the pin! Differentiation:
Gifted students: After the work has been completed will be given a worksheet with adding different molecular formulas (see attached) in order to become more familiar with the periodic table.
Students with IEP plan: Will have a worksheet on different molecular formulas. Student will be able to label if a molecule or element while referencing the periodic table.

In the back of her classroom, there is a table with four chairs. Those chairs are for the students who work diligently and quietly. They were assigned to four girls. Everyday these four finished the lesson, 20 minutes ahead of schedule. Ms. McKenzie would allow them to work on the assignment for the next day as well as the homework. Her ability to differentiate the needs of the students was stellar.
In my classroom, I hope to be able to discern and accommodate each students need. Ms. McKenzie was a prime example of a teacher who did just that.

The Cartoon Guide to Chemistry by Larry Gonick and Craig Criddle is a non-fiction book that utilizes visual images and cartoons to cover the basics and intricacies of Chemistry. It consists of two-hundred and fifty-six pages and was published by Collins Reference on May 3, 2005. It covers topics such as chemicals reactions, solutions, acid basis, and chemical thermodynamics in unique fashion that makes chemistry fun and easy to learn as well as understand. The book has no consistent build up or story to it. It simply moves from chemistry subject A to chemistry subject B, explaining the various components that make up the subject of chemistry.
Before I started my lesson, I made sure that all of my materials were placed where I needed them; at the front desk. The materials I brought were a PowerPoint presentation, a few color swatches, project paper, pencils, and crayons. The best-selling novel, The Disappearing Spoon, is written by Sam Kean. The book revolves around the periodic table. It goes into such depth of the table, it is literally an adventure historically, politically, and scientifically. Not to mention, it is relevant to what has been learned this school year, which is what I’ll be talking about in this paper. The book is extremely helpful in learning the periodic table of elements, which is an imperative tool to have when studying physical science or chemistry, for example. It fills an unknown void of what the table is, solving mysteries as the chapter progresses.

Every human has a natural tendency to organize. The periodic table is a perfect example of how organization betters the scientific world. Much like a poem, it tells a significant amount of information in a condescended fashion. With this map of the basic elements of the universe, we can find out how many electrons the element has and how much it weighs. Each element has its own separate set of such data; no two elements are the same.
In 1911, Ernest Rutherford found a very spectacular in such a small thing. Rutherford found that an atom has a microscopic charged nucleus. Empty space surrounds the nucleus. The nucleus is also surrounded by electrons. By this discovery Rutherford made the model of the atom.
In a classroom, the class is a single unit, and teachers teach to the class’s needs, rather than to each individual students’ needs. I enjoy being able to work individually with students in order to cater my teaching toward each one’s specific needs so that I can instill them with passion for each subject.
The theory of quantum mechanics has divided the atom into a number of fundamental sub-atomic particles. Although the physicist has shown that the atom is not a solid indivisible object, he has not been able to find a particle which does possess those qualities. Talk of particles, though, is misleading because the word suggests a material object. This is not the intention for the use of the word in quantum physics. Quantum particles are, instead, representations of the actions and reactions of forces at the sub-atomic level. In fact, physicists are less concerned with the search for a material particle underlying all physical objects and more interested in explaining how nature works. Quantum theory is the means that enables the physicist to express those explanations in a scientific way.

Through the implementation of my lesson, I learned I have to work on the assessment and the details of lesson planning. During the planning of this lesson, the assessment was an aspect that needed more thought. The students had a problem with reading the words for the word sort and understanding the writing section. If I were to reteach the lesson I would add pictures to the words on the word sort to help the students to read and understand the words. In addition, I would include a sentence strip for the assessment that the students could copy but then finish the sentence on their own. The writing prompt was too hard for the students, I received various answers some students copied the prompt only while other students understood it and wrote appropriate answers.
They also need this relationship to be able to plan their lesson effectively. For children, understanding the nature and process of science is dependent upon their developmental level and the experiences teachers provide for them. Children can begin to understand what science is, who does science, and how scientists work through classroom activities, stories about scientists, and class discussions. Teachers should provide children with many opportunities to make observations with all their senses, to look for patterns in what they observe, and to share with others what they did and what they learnt from their
