Pedestrian and Walkability:
The University of Calgary makes it convenient for the pedestrians to access through different areas of the campus by providing both indoor and outdoor ways. The Campus is connected internally and it is easier for people who get from a certain place to another place if they do not want to go outside during the cold harsh weather through indoors. If people are taking the C-train, it is convenient for them as the Biological Sciences building is about three minutes of walking distance from the University C-train station. The Campus also has the “Plus-15” system which connects different areas of the campus through an “indoor sky bridges fifteen feet above ground”. (Reference). Whether it is the Scurfield Hall or the Earth Sciences building, the “Plus-15” makes it easier for students to get through any area of the campus without going outside during the cold weather. However, this does require some time and it is not always possible for students to get through one area to another through the indoors. For Example, if a person has to go from the Education building

For Example, the Swann Mall often referred to as the prairie chicken which is right across the Enrollment Services. The Swann Mall is “18-ft- tall and 4.5-ton stainless steel sculpture” made by George Norris. (Reference). People have heard different stories about the history behind the Swann Mall. Most people are usually found spending time here during the summers. One of the beautiful places in the campus is the atrium in the Administration Building. This is an indoor spot which has modern furniture, natural lighting through skylight and real plants in the area. Students are generally found studying here throughout the year. The University of Calgary also has their own theatre called the University theatre where there are dance, drama and music events are hosted throughout the
Is the Loop Bus as beneficial to students as it should be? The SGA Loop Bus is a service provided to Duquesne University students by the Student Government Association. It is a three fleet bus system that provides transportation from Duquesne University to Southside, Oakland, and Waterfront that is operated on Friday and Saturday during the academic school year. It is the subject of one of the major gripes with Duquesne University and is not quite what it is cracked up to be. There are many consequences due to the inconsistencies of the Loop Bus making it not only irritable to wait for but places you in danger.
Approaching the auditorium from outside, one can see clearly what is on the inside due to the large glass windows and doors that cover about half of the front view of the building. In the large lobby, there are bathrooms, drinking fountains, the ticket office, and doors that lead to the hallway to the auditorium. This hallway has a fork, giving the people who enter the choice of entering the auditorium on the left or right side. When the hallway ends, there are seats that seem never ending, even though there are only about 1500 seats. The seats are split into two tiers, a lower tier and an upper tier. The lower tier is the main level and is close to the stage, while the upper tier is a mezzanine with stairs that lead to the rows of seats, with the seats farthest from the stage being the highest seats in the auditorium. Within each tier, there are three sections: left, middle, and right. The left and right are angled to the stage, while the middle section is parallel with the front of the stage. These separate sections allow for easy access to the seats because there are aisles on both left and right of every section o...
I couldn’t see staff in the office, nor were there any students in the hallway or in the classrooms. The entire school is empty. Must be a day off or something, I thought, blinking in surprise. Suddenly, I recognized the building. Just last week, I visited the exact same campus.
The theme death has always played a crucial role in literature. Death surrounds us and our everyday life, something that we must adapt and accept. Whether it's on television or newspaper, you'll probably hear about the death of an individual or even a group. Most people have their own ideas and attitude towards it, but many consider this to be a tragic event due to many reasons. For those who suffered greatly from despair, living their life miserably and hopelessly, it could actually be a relief to them. Death affects not only you, but also those around you, while some people may stay unaffected depending on how they perceive it.
Being the oldest of seven, my mom had the responsibility of caring and looking after her siblings. Growing up her mom had left them at a very young age and did not come back for a while. She had to act as a parent to her siblings and also work to help her dad be a single parent to seven kids. They did not get to go on family vacations, camps, or even have a lot of free time to do what they wanted. The only time she could feel free and be like a kid was when she went to school.
William Golding , the author of The Lord of the flies believes that evil resides in all human beings. The Lord of the Flies begins softly but nearing the end everything turns upside down. But would the world be the same way it is today without societal structure and rules? Only through societal structure, rules and order will humans be thought morality/principal and proper behaviour. The Lord of the Flies demonstrates what society would look like/resort to without any rules or guidance for man to follow. Others might believe this is true because of natural evil and actions done by individuals, a comparison through savagery and civilization, and certain truths in the world that are evil.
As Peter F. Drucker once said, “The most important thing in communication is to hear what isn’t being said.” Most people may think Drucker is referring to people, which is most likely correct, however, what if it worked the same way with buildings and structures? As Strange and Banning argue in Educating by Design, this “non-verbal communication” (4) is especially important on a college campus as the way a college is presented can be symbolic of the values that the institution upholds. On the Lehigh University campus, the layout is all on the side of a mountain, and therefore walking on pathways can be difficult, especially in inclement weather. The “functional and symbolic” (Strange and Banning, 4) non-verbal communication of the Lehigh University

The building labeled B appears to be the main building for courses at Local Community College. Students walk in and out of the building all day and stop only to enter a classroom or buy food from the vending machines which fill one corner of the building’s long hallway. Often, students sit on the chairs that line the walls while waiting for a class to start, but for now the hallway is nearly empty and waiting for the ambush of students.

In this essay I will be discussing plays being transformed into a film. I chose the play Trifles. Trifles is a short stage play written by Susan Glaspell in 1916 and shortly after rewrote as a short story in 1917 entitled A Jury of Her Peers. The Short story and the play are loosely based upon the murder trial of John Hossack, which Glaspell covered while working as a journalist. This play has been a basis of discussion and study relative to the evolution of the woman’s movement over the past 100 years and is often referred to as a feminist drama.
Its large sestet of columns on either side draw the eye vertically to emphasize its height, making one feel insignificant compared to the structure. Additionally, the vertical structures on the windows on either side of the columnar façade work with the verticality to emphasize the grandiosity of the structure. The Corinthian style columns provide for an elegant, sturdy appearance for the structure’s support (though they appear to be more aesthetic than functional). This gives the station a very grounded appearance situated in the heart of Philadelphia’s University City district. Similar to this feature is the striking symmetry of the building on its west and east side.
The warm and cool light streaming in through the windows and doorways during transitions was an effective use of
One solution for improving student transportation is offering a shuttle service. Although, UTSA already provides a shuttle service, it is limited to only two routes and can be unreliable. The transportation service at UTSA recommends waiting at the shuttle stop “30 to 45 minutes before your scheduled class time” (Business . . .). The thought of waiting in freezing temperatures trying to hide from the icy rain can be disheartening for some but it is a reality for students whose only way of transportation is through the shuttle. As a result of similar issues, Rutgers University, The State University of New Jersey, “provides 40 buses on 10 routes complete with GPS tracking“(Horan 52). The purpose of GPS trackin...
Personality can affect all different aspects of one’s life. There are links connecting personality to academic and occupational success and social relationships. Health can even be affected by personality because immunity can be altered by personality traits like sociability, optimism, and carelessness. Personality determines the way social interactions occur and when social relationships are determined by how the interactions occur personality can really affect the way one builds social relationships. Just like social relationships, academic and occupational success are affected by personality traits like carelessness, mastery, and agreeableness.
