The building labeled B appears to be the main building for courses at Local Community College. Students walk in and out of the building all day and stop only to enter a classroom or buy food from the vending machines which fill one corner of the building’s long hallway. Often, students sit on the chairs that line the walls while waiting for a class to start, but for now the hallway is nearly empty and waiting for the ambush of students.
Outside the classroom, a number plaque reading one-hundred and seventy is sitting on the wall framed in blue. Another door nearby opens and the wind rustles the papers of the notebook that sits on a chair. Three people stroll casually out of the room and walk on the one foot by one foot multi-colored tiles that line up symmetrically perfect across the hallway. The doors opening and closing echo throughout the long hallway and reverberate through the walls that line it. A student sprints swiftly by as if running late for a class. I really enjoyed The University of Alabama’s version of The Dining Room. It was one of the best plays I’ve ever seen, and I don’t really like plays. The actors, director, and production crew did a very good job of bringing everything together. Everything was on time, the lighting was great, the actors were great, and the entire show was phenomenal. However, out the entire cast one person in particular stood out the most to me. Her name was Mary Catherine Waltman and she played Grace, Peggy, and Sarah which were some of my favorite characters.
Throughout the semester I have grown accustomed to my surroundings. Well, at least for the most part. There is still one building that intrigues me to this very day. As I’d walk past it on my journey to Baruch College, I’d stare the entire time. The building seems like a simple rectangular building. However, some aspect of the architectural design captivates me. Strangely enough, army trucks are always parked alongside the building. However, upon attempting to research the building, I could not find it. I was too intimidated to venture in and inquire for the name. None of the bystanders I asked knew the name of the building, nor cared to.
The fourth was furnished and lighted with orange—the fifth with white—the sixth with violet. The seventh apartment was closely shrouded in black velvet tapestries that hung all over the ceiling and down the walls, falling in heavy folds upon a carpet of the same material and hue. But in this chamber only, the colour of the windows failed to correspond with the decorations. TC (a pseudonym) is a young third grader at a local elementary school. The school looks and feels like any typical elementary school anywhere in North Carolina. However, when you walk down the hall to the EC class is located, you see a room that has little light on inside. Occasionally there will be lights on but for the most part they are not. Once you quietly enter the room, one notices a whiteboard on the immediate right with a small group of 10-12 desks side by side in a “U” shape facing the board. The remainder of the room is divided into three sections. Each section has a “C” shaped table for the special needs teacher and the teacher assistant. In the last section closest to the wall, there is a metal swing hanging from a metal stand. There are several computers in the two outer divided sections but only the three computers by the teacher’s area are active. The physical layout in this classroom consists of the students’ desks in small groups around the classroom and three small group tables at the front of the room, side of the room, and back of the room. There are also cabinets up againt the walls and drawers in the counter in the back of the room. They have the alphabet twice on the wall and numbers one through twenty on the wall, along with pictures that show each number. The room is not very colorful because it is a bluish white color, but the things on the wall make it more comfortable. There is a master schedule on the wall as well. There are labels around the entire room like wall, chair, desk, window, door, etc. There is a Smartboard in the front of the room behind one of the group tables, and two computers beside it. There is the first aid backpack, evacuation procedures, scheduled drills date, school calendar and important dates at the front by the door which is also their emergency exit. 11:14 p.m.-I slowly ascend from my small wooden chair, and throw another blank sheet of paper on the already covered desk as I make my way to the door. Almost instantaneously I feel wiped of all energy and for a brief second that small bed, which I often complain of, looks homey and very welcoming. I shrug off the tiredness and sluggishly drag my feet behind me those few brief steps. Eyes blurry from weariness, I focus on a now bare area of my door which had previously been covered by a picture of something that was once funny or memorable, but now I can't seem to remember what it was. Either way, it's gone now and with pathetic intentions of finishing my homework I go to close the door. I take a peek down the hall just to assure myself one final time that there is nothing I would rather be doing and when there is nothing worth investigating, aside from a few laughs a couple rooms down, I continue to shut the door.
“Oh, why didn’t you say that? It’s over there,” said sheen, pointing down to the class at the end of the hallway. Sheen led them to their class and sat a seat behind from Jimmy. Jimmy sat down and put his ball under his chair. The class was very spacious with 4 rows of 4 individual desks. The desks were all facing a chalkboard that was located in the front of the class. In the back of the class were four computers on individual tables. The chairs near those desks were very low. There was a little space that was dark between the tables.
... of going to Travis Early College High School is the fact that I have the honors of taking courses with our partner school, the San Antonio College. I am part of the first class to ever pass through Travis’s door, and I have already taken eight courses. When the time is right I absentmindedly transfer buses for the remainder of my hour long journey, one I will take every Monday through Thursday until July eighth. The tan doors of Travis are welcoming as I march off the bus, however I am to be going in the cool, intimidating doors of SAC today – to learn about Mass Communications. From that point on my day goes smoothly, I listen intently to my professor, actively taking notes and participating until dismissed. Then I take the bus home and prepare to start the cycle again the next day, and the next, until the scorching summer heat turns to a soft late summer breeze.
It was finally the first day of school; I was excited yet nervous. I hoped I would be able to make new friends. The first time I saw the schools name I thought it was the strangest name I’ve ever heard or read, therefore I found it hard to pronounce it in the beginning. The schools’ floors had painted black paw prints, which stood out on the white tiled floor. Once you walk through the doors the office is to the right. The office seemed a bit cramped, since it had so many rooms in such a small area. You can probably imagine how nervous and maybe even a little timorous I was, my first day at Barstow High. It was not very simple to get accustomed to, coming from Hinkley School, which contained approximately four hundred and fifty students at most, to a big crowded hall ways of Barstow. I still remember how nervous I was that first day; my upper lip was shaking as I asked a hall monitor where the five hundred row was located.
The echoing didgeridoo invaded the awkward silence, and the chairs scraped the wooden floors, marking the conclusion of the period.
