This viral photograph taken by Evan Vucci of President Donald Trump and Pope Francis unlocked questions about their relationship and put Trump in a negative light. A picture is worth a thousand words, as it is said. On May 24th, 2017, Pope Francis and United States President Donald Trump, posed for a photo after meeting for the first time. At Trump’s right-hand side stood his wife Melania Trump, his daughter Ivanka Trump, and about a foot to his left stood the Pope. Trump and his family were dressed in a somber black from head to toe. Melania and Ivanka Trump looked like twins wearing black transparent mesh veils to match their black long sleeve dresses that fell below the knee. This photograph of President Donald Trump, wife Melania Trump and daughter Ivanka Trump meeting Pope Francis at the Vatican is going viral, due to the disgruntled expression the pontiff holds. The photograph instantly became a target of mockery on several social media platforms, primarily Twitter, which just happens to be the President’s favorite. The focus was on Pope’s expression, looking miserable beside President Donald Trump. Users quickly picked up on the Pope’s drained expression, which supplied the fuel source for the mass pollution of memes seen on many Americans Twitter feeds that day. His facial expression was highlighted when users compared it to images of him meeting other people of high importance. Particularly when shown in comparison to how the Pope looked when he met former President Barack Obama. In direct contrast, the Pope seemed much more content in his photo with the former president. It’s easy to make a mockery of the photo knowing the Pope is fulling capable of smiling alongside other presidents but not Trump. Depicting that the Pope has enjoyed meeting with other world leaders much more. Twitter users also inferred that Pope Francis was mentally picturing his visit with Obama while his photo with Trump was being taken. People from all over the world photoshopped the hell out of this image, and the majority of the memes showed Trump in a bad light (per usual). The jokes continued to spread through Twitter that day, prompting articles from reputable organizations such as The Huffington Post, Time Magazine, ABC and USA
In “Unfollow,” Phelps-Roper’s experience and interaction with Twitter shows the effects of media technology on its consumers. Originally, the article identifies Phelps-Roper as a member of the Westboro Baptist Church who decided to take up Twitter after she read an article about a student who used his Twitter account to inform his friends that he was arrested while photographing riots. Phelps-Roper made a Twitter account in August of 2009 when Ted Kennedy died. This situation prompted the publication of her first tweet that celebrated Kennedy’s death stating “He defied God at every turn, teach rebellion against His laws. Ted’s in Hell!” When World AIDS Day Phelps-Roper realized her account began to reach numerous people because comedian Michael Ian Black, who had more than a million followers, had discovered her tweet on that day. Once her tweet was discovered by the comedian other people, such as “The Office”
The faces in this political cartoon are very exaggerated, giving a very comedic feel. Obama's chin was made longer and he has huge ears. The Pope wasn't given a neck in this cartoon, as well as a big forehead. It makes the audience laugh due to the ridiculous illustrations.
For most everybody in the world, people tend to have two identities: one in reality and one online. Andrew Lam wrote an essay, called “I Tweet, Therefore I am: Life in the Hall of Mirrors”, in which he described how people are posting videos or statuses which is making social media take a turn. Instead of social media being a place to share very little information, people are now tending to post weird updates. Lam was describing an example where a boy that was going to surgery asked to have his picture taken because his arm got taken off by an alligator. Another example is when Bill Nye was speaking and collapsed from exhaustion. Most of the crowd took their phones out and recorded videos instead of helping Bill Nye out (540-541). With the power of the internet at everyone’s fingertips, most everyone is trying to make the most of it. With all
In my view, the essay was Josh’s self-reflection of social media and advanced technology. He organized the essay in a small sub-titles, it makes reader easy to understand. His emotional examples make the essay more powerful. The whole essay was reasonable and logical. Even the essay does not including any statistics but the point of view was different than the mass of society. I feel like his
The tone of this cartoon is more serious than comical because yes, it is sending a serious message; it is also being comical in ways on Bill Clinton’s head being out of proportion of his body. The FBI officers are smaller than everyone else and Donald Trump is coming in with a wrecking ball and saying” I condemn this property, disgusting!!” to demolish the house and his head being abnormally large comes as comical. The tone of this illustration on the reader is telling them to beware of the Clintons because of how much they have hidden from the American people and their government. The setting of this cartoon is Hillary and Bill Clinton’s house, where all the chaos and corruption had began. There is so much going on, it is like a train wreck and you can’t help but watch. The events in this cartoon actually happened. The Clintons tried hiding it all in their little house of deceit and lies until like a house of cards it all came crashing
Trump’s use of pathos is simple and repetitive. He claims, many times, that he will return safety to America, effectively ending crime and violence. Trump constantly paints the country in a dystopian light, emphasizing how terrorism and police attacks have placed the United States in a state of crisis. Besides making claims that crime is rampant, Trump also uses anecdotes to further incite the crowd. By mentioning stories about an immigrant killing an innocent American college girl and Iranian troops capturing American sailors, Trump highlights Americans’ safety concerns both domestically and
The artists behind the cartoons more than likely would not openly say what they put into their cartoons. They are shielded by their comical art, which allows them to share their full and true opinion in the form of humorful art. If the artist openly expressed their thoughts like they do in their cartoons in public, they might be looked down upon by their peers, or even end up fighting with their peers over which opinion is correct. With the help of comical drawings, people are able to express their opinions freely, and without the worry of others opinions. It shows that lightening up the mood through humor is something that can help to make the idea more acceptable or drive the audience to be more open to what to what the author or artist is trying to say. The importance of humor when it comes to politics is a great one. Humor in politics is almost a necessity when you want to keep from a major argument over controversial topics, yet there is a time and place for the humor to be used. If used in the right time and place the humor can be almost unrecognizable, but will still do its job of lightening the
Teen are being slain by cyberbullies everyday. Not all social media is good for teens. Even no social media is better. Almost every teenager has a cellphone or some sort of device that lets them check their social media. Many websites like Facebook, Instagram, and snapchat are bad and can cause teenagers to do bad things to themselves or other people. Banning social media will make teens have better grades, be more safer, and have more self confidence with less depression.

Trump on the cover of Time is shown with a dark background surrounding him. He has a very serious expression and the picture is taken from afar. Trump is not facing the camera but is turned toward it. On the other hand, the Bomber on the cover of Rolling Stone has a light background and his expression is more laid back and evokes empathy. The camera is aimed right at his face as if he was taking the picture himself.
The focus of this analysis will be on Mr. Trump’s use of social media sites, namely Twitter. Mr. Trump has a twitter feed that according to Amber Phillips of the Washington Post, “Trump tweets, at minimum, 10 times a day, nearly every day. On Oct. 31 — a typical day in Trump 's campaign — he tweeted 59 times.” (Phillips). Therefore, Donald uses Twitter quite often. He uses it throught the day everyday as a way of keeping his name in the public’s eye. The message and success of such Twitter posts will be discussed

But Trump doesn’t listen to public relations consultants; he listens to Trump. And he pulls no punches, even taking on sacred cows that other politicians won’t go near. Somehow, he gets away with it; nothing sticks; so far, at least. He takes on all the critics. And people seem to love the breath of fresh – and often, hot –

Have you ever noticed people acting differently over social media than they do during face to face interactions? A large amount of social media users have reported noticing someone they know displaying a different personality over social media than they present during face to face interactions. Part of this claim is that people create these different personalities when posting to social media because the environmental stress of being able to see the other people whom they are connecting with is no longer there, therefore they feel the freedom to present themselves differently than they do during interpersonal interactions. People often alter facts about themselves as well as their personality characteristics while on social media in order
