The following compilation of sources were all gathered with certain criteria in mind, to inform on background information, give valid reasoning to back up my view on the issue. In addition to displaying a plan for moving forward in the future. While keeping these important criteria in mind, I discovered each one of the following carefully selected sources fit into one of the before mentioned categories. Additionally, helping to strengthen an over-all argument. Another important thing I looked for when choosing sources was the amount of available information, such as the author or authors, date of publication, etc. Attempting to find the largest amount of information for the most appealing citation. Although while researching my ultimate goal is collecting sources, I also use this opportunity to further inform myself on my chosen topic, viewing many unique reports and different options on a variety of sites. Trying to find unique and diverse sources is one my highest priorities when preparing to write a research-based essay. However, finding reliable sources that have precise information and are not overused can be of the largest challenges throughout the researching process. Things such as credibility, relevance, and purpose are all things I take into account throughout my researching process. Every individual source contributes to a larger argument, each one fits into a different category and must complete a different task. Frequently, when evaluating sources, I look for information and comments to utilize in building my argument. However, there was a difference between this assignment and others I have done previously. With this assignment, I understood that my sources needed to tell a story in and of themselves, that I would not have the opportunity to narrate them or explain the significances of each …show more content…
Divided into stages of collecting, analyzing and understanding, and citing. When I begin searching for a topic it can quickly become one of the most frustrating parts, worrying if the topic is exciting or interesting enough. Frequently, I turn to others around me for inspiration, hoping a conversation will become an idea. Although ultimately, I must feel passion for my topic. Once I have finally come to a decision, however, the researching of the topic is my favorite part of the writing process. Due to the impotence of research collecting, I am thankful to say that I learned a great deal from this researching project. A major lesson that came from this assignment was witnessing the value of giving proper time to collecting and understanding your research can have on the quality of the
When it comes to learning about events and people in history, nothing beats a primary source. There is information directly from the event and there are no worries about incorrect data because the author was there to witness said event. But the main problem with primary sources is the fact that it only covers part of the story. So if a book is written about, say, the concentration camps of World War II, then all that it would be about would be that persons view of the camps, not what was happening during the actually war. This is where secondary sources come in. Secondary sources are written by authors who were not involved in the event, but rather did research on said event and wrote a novel covering what they believe to be all important aspects. Secondary sources are helpful when wanting to know more than just one aspect of an event, for example, you can know what was happening with the ally powers and axis powers, rather than just one or the other. Despite not being involved in the events, secondary sources still tend to contain bias. This essay will cover the bias of the novel Over Here: How the G.I. Bill Transformed the American Dream, by Edward Humes and how this either helped to prove or disprove his thesis.
Secondary sources of literature are primarily written by journalists and does not report an original finding, but rather relies on an original source to provide information that can be used as background material. To use it correctly, one must first distinguish it from primary sources and understand that secondary sources alone cannot sufficiently and
It was quite challenging for me because the research process was long and I wasn’t read the articles carefully enough. After I gathered all the article I was lucky to find many goods points from the articles to support my point. It is better to have many resources to use for the final essay, so I was trying to carefully maximize the use of those articles. It is important to find the article so that can be evidence to support my argument. I was having hard time to distinguigh between primary source and secondary source. The librarian was very helpful in help me to find a primary source to use for my
First, the historian must refer to primary sources, must describe how he selected his sources and how they are useful, and must quote, refer to, or interpret sources responsibly (representing their context, content, and importance as accurately and fairly as possible) and precisely (using them to clearly support his specific arguments, not haphazardly or too generally). This satisfies the reader by relating (at least one version) of what really happened, and showing how the author justifies his analysis in light of historical fact.
The Beginning Stages of the Writing and Publication Process: Matching the Topic to the Journal
This is a credible article; it seems that it is researched thoroughly and thoughtfully. Overall this article highlights my topic fairly well, and did meet my expectations; the author’s conclusion ended strong and summarizes the article greatly. Still, this article is not much different than my other twelve articles with the exclusion of one. In this article and others not all sources have different points of view and only one has done that.
Introduction There have been some challenges in trying to figure out the right approach to follow in a research study, and this semester is more of an eye opener that reveals the expected ways in conducting research, which has been a very interesting and tough process. Dudley (2011). The four major search strategies available for locating references related to the chosen topic issues: (1) consultation, (2) searches in subject indexes, (3) browsing, and (4) footnote chasing. Researchers need to be aware of all of these strategies in information gathering. Question 1: What have you learned about research?
Comparing Two Sources There are disagreements and agreements between source A and source B. Source A was from a report written by a journalist Humphrey Tyler, who worked for a South African magazine. The report was written later on the same day that the shooting occurred. Source B was from an English newspaper, published the day after the shooting. Source A and source B both agree and disagree with each other over different things.

I failed to find any scholarly sources for this assignment. Ms. Schwartz said, “You MUST include some scholarly, academic sources for your research to achieve the desired ethos (ethos represents credibility)”. With the reminder Ms. Schwartz gave me I was able to go back to the UA library database and look for scholarly sources to support my research topic. As I looked ahead to Module 3 and began to work on future assignments I was able to correct this problem. For example, in the Module 3 assignment, The Exploratory Essay, I used a mixture of both popular and scholarly sources. I am now able to locate sources for other assignments from the library and feel confident going forth that I will be able to use this knowledge in other classes I take.
Writing can be very frustrating; laying your ideas out on paper so that others can grasp the concept you are trying to convey is a very difficult task. In Writing 101 I have learned how to formulate good theses that are arguable and also how to validate articles that have to do with my topic. The most important element of a paper is the thesis statement. It captures the reader's attention and tells them what the essay is about. Having a well-structured thesis along with evidence to support that thesis are the main ingredients to a well-written essay. I have also learned how important it is to research an author’s background to ensure their credibility. This is a very important step in writing because today we can find information on a topic, however, it is not valid. By researching the author, we can see if he or she is an expert in the area and so this would make his or her information more credible. There is a ...
