“At Last” is a song written by Mack Gordon and Harry Warren for the musical film “Orchestra Wives”, in 1941. In 1960, it was covered by R&B singer Etta James. Etta James was an American singer whose style spanned a variety of music genres including Blues, R&B, soul, Rock, and roll, etc. James was a winner of six Grammys and 17 Blues Music Awards while she was considered the bridge of R&B and Rock and Roll music. James’ version of “At Last” was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999.
“At Last” starts off with a strong harmony of a combination of strings including violins, violas, and cellos. As vocal comes in, the sound strings back off and drum kit kicks in with a classic three- fourths meter. The strings give people a
heavy feeling, just as the foreshadow when an elder is about to tell a deep story. But when drum sets kick in, audiences are introduced to a more lively melody. James’ voice is rough but steady, and listening to her singing is like listening to a musical that is played by one person. Contemporary R&B is a music style combines elements of rhythm and blues, soul, funk, pop, hip-hop, and dance. Its variety of elements makes it diverse in music forms. In “At Last”, the song does not have a traditional background music of saxophone. Instead, the combination of strings and drum set, which indicates the collaboration of classic and modern music, is used in the track. It certainly gives audiences a fresh and unique listening experience and feeling. The lyrics of “At Last” talks about love, life and dreams. At last, life is beautiful, sky is blue, dreams come true and you are here. It is an imaginary picture that songwriter wants to present to audience, but at the same time, it is a simple hope that everyone holds in their hearts.
I personally never heard this song before writing this essay but I actually really like it, especially after watching “The end live in LA” on YouTube, the performance was really good. What I like most was the guitarist who played the best tones throughout the whole
My Forbidden Face by Latifa relates to this course in a number of ways. First, the fact that the author cannot divulge her real name for fear of being beaten, raped, and/or killed is one way that the book correlates with the class. Other examples are subordination of women, veiling, and keeping women out of the public eye. The Taliban are very extreme in their treatment of women; in fact, it is almost as if they are living in the very distant past.
Sam Smith revealed that he wrote and already recorded the official soundtrack of the upcoming James Bond movie, “Spectre.” The British singer confirmed the news on his Twitter account on Tuesday.
The piano plays the main themes, and it was absent from playing before. The piano plays two octaves in the treble register. There is a viola in the background playing a counter melody, which slows towards
In Beth Brant (Mohawk) “This is History,” the main theme in the story is to show readers that women came first and love each other in society. She is trying to find a identity for herself and have connections with things around her. She is willing to appreciate nature and earth. She is taking the beauty of everything around her. Including pregnancy and women. “First woman touched her body, feeling the movements inside, she touched the back of mother and waited for the beings to change her world.”

Throughout the second and final act the musical content within the play acts as a story of it’s own through theme and variation. Each separate song represents a feeling and or mood and is enhanced as it is varied throughout the act. Like the first act, the songs are used to portray poverty, suffering, hardships, and even death. However, unlike the first act, there is also a theme of love and happiness. Closure is brought about with a sense of warmth and this is often heard through the display of the tempo. When the times were tough the tempo decreased and was often slow and morbid like.

The song “Mississippi Goddam” was written by the singer Nina Simone. She created the song in less than an hour with “Four Women” and “To be Young, Gifted and Black”. The song is Nina Simone’s response the murder of Medgar Evers in Mississippi, and the 16th Street Baptist church bombing in Birmingham which killed four black children. During this time the Civil rights movement was in full swing and Evers was one of Mississippi’s most impassioned activist and visionary for change. With the tension between white and black people at an all-time high after the verdict of Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, it put a target on Evers’ back. In June of 1963, Evers arrived at his home and was shot in the back before he reached the door. This song was

Believing in God’s plan will always keep us on the right path. In Carrie Underwood’s song, “Temporary Home”, she sings about three different people in their own life situations that God has put them in. Their stories show, that they believe that struggles, trials, and tribulations are only temporary, in this temporary world.
The song, Anna's Theme, begins with a haunting solo female voice, singing a melody that never resolves, moving only in circular motion with the last note of a phrase beginning the next. Slowly, the violin blends itself into th...
