Have you ever craved something so strongly? Something that was right at the edge of your fingertips? And no matter what you do, you just can’t grasp hold of it? Dark Flame, a book written by Alyson Noel and published by St. Martin’s Griffin in 2010, is a novel based towards young adults. Dark Flame is the fourth novel in the Immortal Series. This novel is all about hope and trust, which proves just how vigorous love can be.
It all started with a spell. A spell that backfires and binds her to her greatest enemy. Someone who she abominated. Ever Bloom, a young desperate girl, is in need of some serious help. She has gotten way too deep into dark magick and can not seem to dig herself out of it. Ever is to the point where she will do anything to be with her true love.
One night while Ever is at a party her bestfriend Haven gets herself into some deep trouble. Ever is then faced with a serious choice. Either save her bestfriend by making her immortal? Or take the antidote that allows her to be with her true love at last? Ever is unsure of what to do, but she will not let her bestfriend die and become the thing she dreads the most. Ever decides to save her bestfriend and turn her immortal. “Excuse me? But are you for real? I mean, here you drop a major bomb on me-and I mean major- as in my ears are still ringing and my head is still spinning and I kind of need you to repeat it just to make sure you really did say what I think-and your only concern is that I’m talking too loud? Are you kidding me?” (Noel pg 1). Haven is ferment, but Ever is more worried. She must keep Haven content and quiet about immortals so no one finds out. Meanwhile, while trying to keep Haven quiet, Ever must also keep hold of her relationship with Damen.

It is a place where they can do whatever they want and manifest anything they please. “Gazing upon an exquisite utopia, a seemingly endless field of blazing red tulips with an exquisite pavilion placed right in its center. “Surely you didn’t create this all now?” (Noel pg 184). In this scene Damen manifested the red tulips, the pavilion, and many other things to for Ever as her birthday present. In life that is not really possible. When one reads the book ones imagination is simulated and thinks beyond the ordinary.
After reading Dark Flame one can learn that love is the most powerful thing in the world. Not only is it powerful, but it can take you far. Furthermore, one can also learn that when the going gets rough, never give up. It shall not rain forever.

In Under a Cruel Star, Heda Margolious Kovaly details the attractiveness and terror of Communism brought to Czechoslovakia following WWII. Kovaly’s accounts of how communism impacted Czechoslovakia are fascinating because they are accounts of a woman who was skeptical, but also seemed hopeful for communism’s success. Kovaly was not entirely pro-communism, nor was she entirely anti-communism during the Party’s takeover. By telling her accounts of being trapped in the Lodz Ghetto and the torture she faced in Auschwitz, Kovaly displays her terror experienced with a fascist regime and her need for change. Kovaly said that the people of Czechoslovakia welcomed communism because it provided them with the chance to make up for the passivity they had let occur during the German occupation. Communism’s appeal to

Many hearts are drawn to history's greatest love stories, such as Romeo and Juliet, Bonnie and Clyde, and Helen and Paris to name a few. One could argue that humanity’s way of finding happiness is to seek love. Pure, unadulterated love is one of the hardest feelings to acquire, but when one does, they’d do anything to keep it. Through Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter and his characters, Hester Prynne and Arthur Dimmesdale, readers discover that this innate desire to be accepted and loved is both our most fatal flaw and our greatest virtue.
In the poem pride, Dahlia Ravikovitch uses many poetic devices. She uses an analogy for the poem as a whole, and a few metaphors inside it, such as, “the rock has an open wound.” Ravikovitch also uses personification multiple times, for example: “Years pass over them as they wait.” and, “the seaweed whips around, the sea bursts forth and rolls back--” Ravikovitch also uses inclusive language such as when she says: “I’m telling you,” and “I told you.” She uses these phrases to make the reader feel apart of the poem, and to draw the reader in. She also uses repetition, for example, repetition of the word years.
Many times when reading a novel, the reader connects with one of the characters and begins to sympathize with them. This could be because the reader understands what the character is going through or because we get to see things from the character’s perspective and their emotions and that in return allows a bond to form for the reader. The character that is the most intriguing for me and the one I found comparing to every book that I read during school was Stacey from the book “Ravensong” Lee Maracle. The character Stacey goes through a lot of internal battle with herself and it’s on her path to discovery that she begins to understand herself and what she’s capable of. Throughout the novel, Stacey has a few issues she tries to work through. This is emphasized through her village and in her school that is located across the bridge in white town. Stacey begins dealing with the loss of Nora, and elder in her town. And this in return begins the chain of events that Stacey begins on the path of self-discovery not only on herself but everyone around her. She begins to see things differently and clearly. Stacey is a very complex and confused character, and she begins to work through these complexities through her thoughts, statements and actions.

Although love is interpreted as a wonderful thing it can also ruin someone's life, “Love is a trap. When is appears, we see only its light, not its shadows.” (Paulo Coelho) Love doesn’t fix people it breaks them asunder. It waits and waits for its next target to make a mistake and ruin everything they worked for. As seen in various works including; “The Raven” , Romeo and Juliet, and “The Gift of the Magi”. Romantic love is a force that inflicts pain upon those who believe in it or those who have been through it.
Love has the power to do anything. Love can heal and love can hurt. Love is something that is indescribable and difficult to understand. Love is a feeling that cannot be accurately expressed by a word. In the poem “The Rain” by Robert Creeley, the experience of love is painted and explored through a metaphor. The speaker in the poem compares love to rain and he explains how he wants love to be like rain. Love is a beautiful concept and through the abstract comparison to rain a person is assisted in developing a concrete understanding of what love is. True beauty is illuminated by true love and vice versa. In other words, the beauty of love and all that it entails is something true.
“I am nothing special, of this I am sure. I am a common man with common thoughts and I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul and to me, this has always been enough.” That is a quote from The Notebook, a famous book written by Nicholas Sparks in 1996. This quotation inspires people to have faith that love is the only thing in the world that they need. They need not have prosperity or fame. They simply need an individual to love with all their hearts for all eternity. The world is a place where love seems to somehow find its way through in the most difficult of times. Nicholas Sparks is a dedicated author, father, husband, and donor who sees that clearly and demonstrates that in his novels. To understand the genuine significance of Nicholas Sparks and his novels, one must know his background, the truth about what the critics think about his novels and his influence on today’s society.
Ever since the dawn of time, love has been a fundamental part of every human’s lives. Northern Lights demonstrates to us that the love of a friend or the love of spouse can create either great power or bring misery and unhappiness. Iorek and Lyra are a perfect example a powerful relationship. Iorek has been denied power, Lyra is on a quest to find power and with out the love the two shared as friends, neither would be able to complete their missions. However, this is not to say the love and power are a perfect combination. To illustrate, look at Mrs. Coulter and Lord Asriel. “His hands, still clasped her head, tensed suddenly and drew her towards him in a passionate kiss. Lyra thought this looked more like cruelty than love” both are powerful in their own right, but neither is truly happy with the other. They cannot agree or conform with each others beliefs of Dust, meaning no physical love could keep them together. Although there was a strong romantic interest between the two, both came from different sides of power, her religion and he science. Northern Lights shows its readers that when true love is evident, than true power is achievable.
I will begin by saying that as much as I appreciate hip-hop, rap, and r&b and listen to things influenced by these styles of music, my personal choice of music is not any of these three. That being said, I do not necessarily have a favorite artist in this style, but if I had to pick one person that I listen to on occasion, it would have to be Ed Sheeran, who has come across the music scene recently and has become a very popular figure in the music world today. As I look at the lyrics of his song “I See Fire,” I see a resemblance to Shakespeare’s work and his styles of writing.
The fire that’s burning from within, slowly reaching to an extent whether if they have made the right or the wrong choices. The characters portrayed in the short story and in the film display love hearted type of personality to an extent when they come to realization of their actions. Such in the story Octavio Perez mentions “But never did I reach the center of her being. Never did I touch the nakedness of pain and of death. Perhaps it does not exist in wave, that secret site the renders a woman vulnerable and mortal, that electric button where all interlocks, twitches, and straightens out to then swoon.”(678). Meaning that the narrator never had the opportunity to be with wave in an emotional state rendering him to be vulnerable towards her. Striking him with so many variables that he cannot comprehend his mind to how he should respond too. As for “The House of the Spirits” all characters portrayed within the film all have struggles, including the struggle of love. Such as Esteban losing Clara older sister, but not knowing the Clara has loved Esteban ever since she was a child. Several years has passed, Clara and Esteban have become one with matrimony loving each other so dearly. The aspect of this is that no matter who you or what complications you face, love will be the genuine feeing
