My overall thoughts on the story. What an incredible text, it is no surprise the story won an award. I loved the author's use of Logos, Pathos, and Ethos, as well as the overall flow of the text. Question one: It was a bit hard for me to pinpoint who I thought the narrator was, but I finally came to a conclusion. I think the narrator is a college-aged person, (possibly male) who is pursuing a second degree in journalism which is why this person is so in turn with the news reports. This person lives in the same neighborhood as the woman did, and currently works for the local police department, as a deputy with a degree in law enforcement. Being a college student, this person is involved in the campus life and their career gives them confidential …show more content…

It is not completely about the towns people or the missing women, but a mix of both told from the view of an outsider. Question three: In all, I counted around 13 people who could be possible suspects or were false leads on the case. I am going to stick with my narrator assumptions and go off the thought that maybe Spence felt the need to include these details to tell the reader more about the narrator. Spencer may have also been trying to fill in gaps the reading was crating while reading the story. However there are also some loose ends that Spencer mentioned but never addressed, for instance, could the police have traced the anonymous phone call? It was questions likes these that left me wondering why some of this information was included. Question four: I believe the last paragraph is designed to be a reflection of how the narrator personally feels about the missing woman. In regards to my suspicions mentioned above, if the narrator was is a police deputy, they may feel as if they have failed and the fact that they are so stressed over this has pushed it into their dreams. If the narrator is still in college and has seen both of the missing girls at a party, the stress of the situation may be causing the person to be subconsciously trying to recreate the events of those nights. But it is an interesting way to end a story, I felt as though I too should be dreaming of these missing
