Technology provides an abundance of modern resources. In order to assure oneself that the information they are accessing is valid and reliable, it is important to discover how to distinguish and sort information. Unfortunately, using technology for research is not as simple and straightforward as other forms of research, such as textbooks. In order for a textbook to be published, it has to endure a wide variety of checks to ensure the information it contains is accurate. Whereas a website can become published without a second glance. As technology use continues to expand, it is crucial for users to distinguish from the good and bad sources. Deciding whether information found during research is right or wrong can seem difficult. However, …show more content…
When using technology for factual research, it is best to avoid websites that do not appear professional. The purpose of the website should be clear without having to read the information it contains. It is critical for a researcher to learn to avoid all websites with the purpose of selling a product. Websites that end in “.com” are often known to be created for selling purposes, making these sites classify as sites a researcher should make note to take caution …show more content…
To be sure of a technological source’s validity, a researcher can exploit other methods of analyzing a source to determine if information it contains is valid and reliable. First of all, it is important to check the publishing history of the chosen website. A researcher will want to confirm that the information they are about to read is modern. This can be accomplished by checking the date their particular source was established. Technology advances, especially in current issues such as the medical field, are occurring every second. New findings can lead to a lot of changes in medicine, which makes a researcher want to ensure that the technological resources they have chosen to use for information are up to date. Still pertaining to a researcher seeking information in the medical field, it is crucial for them to remember to stay modern. As John Naisbitt once said “The most reliable way to forecast the future is to try to understand the present.” Using a site that was written many years ago could contain information that is no longer relevant, and remedies and techniques that new advances could have surpassed the ones that used to be considered the leading discoveries. It would be counterproductive for a researcher to hope to find information to make a medical difference in the future if the information they would base their actions on

Now that we are living in an ever changing world, technology is viewed as the most resourceful tool in keeping up with the pace. Without the use of technology, communication would be limited to using mail for delivery and encyclopedias for research. Although technology has improved the way we communicate and find information for research, the information is not always valid. Unfortunately, for those of us who use the internet for shopping, research, or reading articles of personal interest the information is not treated the same as a your magazine or book. While such literature is reviewed by an editorial staff, internet literature or information can be published by anyone. In order to reap the full benefit of having the use of technology for any purpose, there are five basic criteria’s one must keep in mind as an evaluating tool for deciding whether or not the particular website is a reliable source for information.
It is a culture in which private persons (the public) do not act as consumers only, but also as contributors or producers. We are in a moment of time in which an explosion of new media technology has made it very easy for everyday people to take media in their own hands to create, to share, to express themselves, through every possible media channel. Participatory culture could be defined as new ways of life that lead people to create and circulate new self-made content including video, audio, text, and images. The movement is taking shape and being popularized by consumer social networking sites such as Facebook, Flickr, and Wikipedia that encourage mass participation and collaboration. Participatory culture is changing the way people and the media communicate and actively engage. The characteristic that define modern participatory culture is that consumption is no longer the only way we used media like in the past. We have started to expand our focus to include producing and sharing media too which can be found in any form or content. Example would be fan communities, groups of gamers, the blogging population, and various sub cultures online. What these groups have in common is their supportive environments in which to create and share. There is an assumption that anyone who is currently a reader could become a writer, anyone who is a consumer can become a producer. Participatory culture fostered by new media is like a communication triathlon involving consumption, production, and sharing leads to more knowledge. Many of these tools allow us to remix, recirculate, content from media as a mode of creative expression. There is an informal training process for experienced participants help newbies acquire the skills they need to be...
Maps, which are two dimensional models of the earth’s surface, are a huge contributor to the everyday lives of many people worldwide. People rely on them, from navigation (reference map) to communicating data (thematic map); they are an important resource to many. Cartographers, or people that make maps, make many choices when it comes to the design of the map they are making. They have creative freedom when it comes to the color, symbols, data classification, projection, scale, and regions on the map.
The objective of this essay is to compare Internet research with other sources of information which include books, word of mouth and primary research. This paper will also look at ways of ascertaining the validity of research information for academic work.
I am a sociology anthropology major. Previous classes of sociology introduced me to how society is situated. In other words how society views, thinks about and perceives life experiences. One example that I can remember from the past few months comes from my criminology course. I learned about how the general justice system treats criminals. The second example comes from another course I took, has to do with the social political and economic view and perception involving children. I learned that children’s behaviors, thoughts and perceptions about the world varies considerably with regard to societal culture.
Envisioning the Future of Clinical Research Clinical Research in 2025 May 28th, 2000, my first day working in clinical research. A lot of time, a lot of experiences, a lot of changes. Everyone who has worked in clinical research has passed thru many changes. However, in my experience, clinical research main activities have not changed in its essence, changes have been done in the how but not in the what. And clinical research is not the one which generates the changes.
The major disadvantage of easily obtainable information is at times the information found is unreliable and questionable. If a person is unsure of the reliability of the information, they must verify the information before using it. The information may also be found on sites that aren’t secure. When searching for information, its important to visit a secure website.
Technology has become an important part of our lives, and from work to school to home you will come across using technology at some point. While, some people are technology proficient and catch on well to all the new advances that come and go, I unfortunately am not one of those people. Personally, I struggle with using technology and I like learning one way and sticking to that way when it comes to anything dealing with the internet and technology. Due to the lack of information I know about technology, I have come across some challenges while enrolled in school one being the ability to surf the web and find good information on the internet. I came to a realization about halfway through writing a literary analysis paper for my writing 121
With the advancement of technology and the exponential increase of Internet use, professionals-academic and business-are relying on electronic resources for information, research, and data. The Internet gives an individual access to a sea of information, data, and knowledge; plus, this vast amount of information is available in a matter of seconds, rather than hours or days. The ease of access, availability, up-to-the-second timeliness, and vastness of online resources is causing many professionals, however, to forgo the use of print sources. Online resources are useful to conduct scholarly research and 'may be convenient, but they have shortcomings that make print sources necessary for submitting high-quality assignments' (Dilevko & Gottieb, 2002, ¶ 1).
As internet companies began developing rapidly, they started gathering information on the internet. Search engines such as Google were created to help organize and locate that information. Now, to look up information, you have a couple of easy-to-use resources. Firstly, you can go to Wikipedia, which is an online, community-driven encyclopedia. There, people contribute their wealth of knowledge and information o...
There has been a surprising change in society, which computer engineering has brought about . The Internet in particular is changing every activity of our daily lives. Today just about every advertisement on television, radio and in print carries a web address. It is not unusual for consumers to research a purchase on the Internet before buying. Websites offer thousands of pages of detailed information. Chat rooms and news groups attract many people with opinions t...
The world wide web has digitised information and converged the way we access information. We view newspapers online via a computer or on our mobile phones, and we look up information by searching a key word rather than flicking through an alphebetised encyclopedia. The internet provides us with a seemingly limitless source of information, and now, it also allows us to contribute to that information through blogs, wiki’s and other user-generated sites.
