Both of my parents are White Americans.

My father’s side emigrated from England while my mother’s side emigrated from England and Germany.

Both of my parents have always identified as being Christian (not sure which denomination), yet I do not feel as though they are very religious people. My mother’s father is a strong believer in the Christian faith and he follows the morals of what it means to be a Christian. Therefore, I have a Christian influence, but it is altered depending on which family member it pertains to. Overall, it does not seem as though my family has very strong cultural, ethnic, and religious influences. To my knowledge, no one else in my neighborhood was raised by their father. They were either raised by a mother and a father or just their mother. I do not think that everyone approved of this because when my sister and I had our 7th birthday party we invited a whole bunch of friends from school. They all showed up but when a brother and sister showed up with their mother, their mother took them away when she found out that my father was the only adult there. People found it odd, maybe even inappropriate that a father was raising three children on their own, especially two girls. My father felt terrible because our friends left, but when I was old enough to truly understand what happened I felt bad for my father because it was not right for someone else to question his parenting. It is true it was difficult at times, but I am glad that I was raised by my father because he has helped make me the woman I am

Race has no biological meaning. There is only one human race; there are no subspecies, no single defining characteristic, traits, or even gene, separates one “race” from another. Instead of being a biological concept, race is a social construct, and a relatively modern one at that. It was created to give light-skinned Europeans an advantage by making the white race superior and all others inferior. Throughout its history, the concept of race has served this purpose well.
As I have shown, throughout his essays, Gordon establishes a narrative of the past in the Diaspora which is distinctly negative, drawing on images of the Jewish people as passive and parasitic, alienated from nature and labor and accordingly without a living culture. Through his ideology, Gordon establishes an idea of the perfect relationship between people, nature and labor; a relationship that must be withheld in order for a people to be a living, creative culture. Gordon asserts that the Jewish people have been kept apart from the natural sphere in their own land in which they developed as a people, and have been severed from direct contact with nature in the countries where they are living in Diaspora, thus creating a strictly negative identity for the Diasporic Jews. The Diaspora experience is presented by Gordon as an identity defining experience that is presupposed as part of the Jewish self-understanding. The ideology of Gordon indicates that the Diaspora was a degrading and negative experience for all Jews:

One way to distinguish a person from the billions of other people in the world is by looking into their ethnicity. Ethnicity may be simplified as just a person’s origin, but arguments have been made that there is more to the world. Joane Nagel, author of “Constructing Ethnicity”, writes about what makes up the word ethnicity along with its uses in social and political spectrums. Nicholosa Mohr also writes about the different perspective of ethnicity and the way people embrace them in her writing “The English Lesson”. From reading both texts, it is possible to make the argument that Mohr’s text supports Nagel’s ideas on the fluidity and situational nature of ethnic identity in the United States. Mohr finds themes from different scenarios in the classroom that can perhaps correspond to many of Nagel’s ideas and theories about ethnicity.
In today’s society, it is acknowledgeable to assert that the concepts of race and ethnicity have changed enormously across different countries, cultures, eras, and customs. Even more, they have become less connected and tied with ancestral and familial ties but rather more concerned with superficial physical characteristics. Race and ethnicity are two terms that are constantly used in today’s society. Understanding these terms can help people to recognize that color of skin or color of hair does not define a person. These terms connect with history, social interaction, and the overall make up of a person. However America is constantly obsessed with labeling people by the way that they look or the way that they act. America seems to encourage the terms race and ethnicity and continue to divide people into categories. Historians have held radically different views about the politics of ethnic identity and the attendant complexities in the emerging postcolonial nation, Kenya. Many historians who focus on ethnicity issues have tended to see the colonial period as an important turning point, while others maintain that the impact of the colonial masters on their colonies was superficial. Macharia Munene, the author of “The Colonial Policies of Segregating the Kikuyu, 1920-1964”, contends that the division among Africans came about as a European strategy to keep Africans divided once Africans started showing resentment toward the colonial states and demanded fair treatment economically, socially, and of course, politically. On the other hand, Bethwell A. Ogot, the author of “Building on the Indigenous, Selected Essays, 1981-1998”, answers the question of ethnicity in Kenya by looking at the relationship between the state and society. He looks at the process of state building in relation to the civil society in Kenya. To him, there is an uneven distribution of power, and an uneven access to resources, leading to many conflicts. Then again, Lesa B. Morrison, the author of “The nature of decline: distinguishing myth from reality in the case of the Luo of Kenya”, contends that narrative is an important means of structuring and giving meaning to experience as it often persists and influences behavior. In accordance with his narrative, the nature of the elite status and the means by which group members have responded to particular indicators at the expense of others has helped shape Kenya into ethnic rather than policy nation.
Cultural Appropriation versus Multiculturalism In today's society, there are many different cultures that individuals identify with. Culture is very important to many people and is something that helps define who we are. When different cultures are respected and appreciated, it is a beautiful thing, it can bring individuals in society closer to one another. Ideally, this understanding of one another’s cultures can lead to multiculturalism.
I became a deacon at my church, and soon after I started to build a community culture with the people in my church who shared my beliefs and values. While not every person can agree on everything, having people with similar cultures get together to not only discuss religious beliefs, but discuss family and life is very helpful in growing as a person. They were there for me, and I learned so much from the people I created meaningful relationships and connections with. This made me so much stronger in my faith than I was before, and I felt that I could put my faith in a higher position in my life. During this time I had a son, and not long after another came along; thus, shifting the culture of my family a great deal. Raising my sons proved to be a different experience altogether than raising my daughter. While I still put my faith in God first and taught that to my children, my culture shifted to include more things for them, especially as they got older and became more involved. My life was no longer about me and my priorities, but my faith and my children above everything else. My personal culture was no longer important. It was all about my family culture and what pieces of my own culture I could incorporate to raise my children in the best way possible. The biggest part of my culture that I incorporated was my faith, as I said before. Another important aspect was my family values. I am a very family oriented
