As a person who has worked since the age of 16, continuously without very many breaks in between, it can be easy to feel burned out after a while. Typically, Americans are allowed a two-week vacation after 1 year, and any time after 25 years, up to 5 weeks. This can indicate that the majority of Americans spends a substantial amount of time at work, as opposed to being with their family, or having time to themselves, thus aiding in a stressful lifestyle. For example, it has been stated that “people continually exposed to high levels of stress in their jobs may pay a price in their well-being (Etzion, 2003, p. 214). The qualifications will be based on one’s performance, time with the company, and more importantly, need-based. According to Etizion (2003), vacations improve the quality of one’s personal life and an employee’s job performance. If the employee who believes they are in need more time away from work due to feeling burned out or overworked, permitting them to purchase additional vacation time can aid in their performance and involvement with their company. Paying for more vacation time will be based how much money is contributed to their employee spending account. This is different from regular vacation time where one is automatically paid for their 2-3 weeks of PTO time per year. Instead, my solution is to offer a need-based break at one’s will, and that is paid for by the employee. Researchers have attempted to link stress and burnout and its effect on job performance. The American work ethic is something our country should be proud of. Since the days of George Washington Americans have worked hard for what they believe in, what they need, and what they want. The preventive strategies used to minimize the long term stress and eventual burnout would be experienced by the employee are- usage of vocation time and increasing the fun activities in the working environment. Such as- arranging friendly staff meetings in different restaurant each time, specific day celebrated as dress down day, reducing reassigning and rescheduling the challenging works, providing temporary help when necessary, reducing the over time, and providing compensatory time off are beneficial strategies along with promoting staff to attend stress management workshops.
In conclusion, workers should balancing theirs relax time and work time unless employee cannot avoid stress. This will help us to reduce the chance to get stressed and forget in 21st century’s problem. Stress in the workplace is caused by work and workload. Employees are harmed emotionally and physically by workplace stress. There are two factors of stress in the workplace which are internal and external. When you are relaxing at home, just forget the problems at work. This is the only time you have to relax and being peaceful. Lastly, stress always brings negative attitude and affects your health, so relax as long as you can.
