Introduction
There are various methods of joining two or more metal (or thermoplastic) parts, among of which, welding is the most studied and used in the industry. Welding is done by joining two separate pieces of material through elevating the working temperature high enough to cause softening or melting, thereby achieving coalescence. A filler material is usually added to the work pieces during melting in order to strengthen the joint. [1] The filler material is deposited from a special electrode connected to the electric circuit that also includes the work pieces. [2]
The number of different welding processes has increased for the last few decades. These processes differ greatly in the manner in which heat and pressure (when used) are applied, and in the type of equipment used. [1] A simple and logical way of classifying the welding processes is according to the sources of energy used for achieving coalescence. The welding processes can be broadly classified as: (1) thermo-chemical welding; (2) pressure welding; and (3) fusion welding. [3]

I have often found myself in situations where I needed to fix something but could not because it is metal. I believe this might be why I began to show interest in welding. There is great satisfaction in being able to create or fix a metal object on your own.
Oxy- fuel welding is usually called in workplace/trades terms oxy acetylene welding, gas welding and oxy fuel cutting which are all use fuel and oxygen to cut and weld metals together. It all started with the famous chemist Edmund Davy, who is suppose to be considered as the first man to make acetylene. By accident in 1836 Edmund while trying to make potassium created a black compound which was mixed with water create a gas that burned greatly. Edmund wanted to use this gas to make lights but the materials and production would cost to much. Calcium carbide was not identified until 1862. In 1892 calcium carbide was created by accident when trying to create calcium from coal tar when the production reacted with water.
Welders can use hand held welders or even robotic welders to produce welds. Both equally requiring a incredible amount of knowledge. They can also fill holes, produce structures and build custom parts for automotive race shops. Welders often work fulltime on shipyards, oil rigs, and pipelines or anywhere else where a specific job is needed. Welding is a very important job in today’s society. With new building designs, and bridges to every day metal products, welders are needed to do these tasks. Almost everything that you use every day has some sort of weld to it.
Welding can be traced back to the ancient times. One of the earliest methods of welding is bronze age. when ancient people back then had small gold circular were made by pressured welding lap joined together. Then in the Iron Age the Egyptians and people in the eastern area learned to weld pieces of iron together. In the middle age blacksmithing was developed. Blacksmithing is when you weld a piece of metal and hammering it but it was in the 19 century that welding was invented as they know it today.
