Introduction to Transaction Processing System(TPS)
Transaction Processing System collects and stores data about transactions. It also changes stored data such as making an airline reservation, business transactions, and accounting transactions.
Two types of Transaction Processing System(TPS)
- Batch transaction processing
Information is collected but not processed immediately. In other way, it is an efficient way of processing high volumes of data where a group of transactions is collected over a period of time. Data is collected, entered and processed, then only the batch results will be obtained. Each step is done separately for the input, process and output. Data collected is prepared for input as a single unit and the updating takes place when it is scheduled or sufficient of data.
Example :
Payroll , billing system , cheque clearance, credit card transactions, stock control, overdue library books, accounting and hotel accounts.

- Real Time Processing
It is a transaction processed immediately. Referred to as online transaction processing as the data is generally entered into a workstation and connected in a topology formation to a network or more likely connected to a database. Data collected is also verified immediately as it is entered. Real time processing is important for immediate results.
Example :
Library loans system, reservations (movie, airline), bank ATMs

Components of a transaction system
- User
The source of the data gathered. Information can be resulted by gaining data from the user and the organization that is making the transactions.
- Participants
People who are responsible in conduction the processing of the data and information.

- Too much consolidation in maintaining the TPS because it requires a lot from a firm. In owning the system, an organization is needed to maintain the system 24 hours a day, seven days a week to keep the system working well without any errors occurred. A flawless integration with other departments such as shipping, payrolls, accounting and inventory to ensure the data given is precisely correct.

Conclusion
Transaction Processing System is a must in every big organization to monitor each transaction made. Each transaction made is atomic which means related accounts or shipping or accounting matter, must be the same so that loss of data won’t happen. Wrong data entered is also detected earlier because of the well-integrated system that is related to the database
