The urinary system of a mink is very similar to a human’s urinary system. The purpose of the urinary system is to rid the blood of wastes. The kidneys filter the wastes and water from the blood to make urine. The urine moves from the kidneys through the ureters to the bladder. After the bladder, if filled to maximum capacity, the urine leaves the bladder and goes through the urethra and out of the penis. Making the urinary system for the mink very similar to that of the humans.
The male urogenital system consists of a penis, tests, epididymis, vas deferens, ejaculatory ducts, urethra, prostate, and accessory glands. While the mink’s urogenital system consist of a penis, baculum, testicles, scrotum, epididymis, vas deferens, urethra, and semen.
The testes are the primary reproductive organs in the male; they are responsible for the production of sperm. The urethra allows the passage of both urine and sperm. There are two main parts of the penis; the root and body. The three main parts of the root of the penis are, the midline bulb, and the left and right crura on either side of the bulb. While the body is formed by three cylindrical masses of erectile tissue, they are the corpus spongiosum in the midline, and the two-corpus cavernosa on either side. The urethra leaves the head of the penis at the end of the corpus spongiosum.

As for the kidney’s, they consist of a renal cortex with arcuate vessels surrounds the renal medulla of the kidney. The renal papilla at the end of the renal medulla connects to the renal pelvis. Finally, a ureter descends form the kidney to the urinary bladder in both the mink and human.

Purpose: To analyze and discuss the anatomy of the mink in order to compare to that of a human. Even though the mink’s anatomy will be a bit different some similarities could always be found.
Students and researchers can learn a lot from observing the mink; unexpectedly I was able to find many similarities between the mink and a human. Humans and Minks are very close in class, which explains their similarities in anatomy. Indeed although these two organisms have a lot in common there are major differences amongst these similarities. The similarities are due to the fact that both humans and the mink are mammals. The differences are due to the differences in environment, habits, size etc... One example is the fact that minks and humans both have lugs of similar shape but different lobes. Each of these similarities and/or differences benefit both the human and the mink, in their own unique way, with each structure having its own function. Overall the mink is a very complex animal and so is an individual.
Minks and humans share various common characteristics because of their common roots in the animal kingdom. Both Human and Mink species are classified as Animalia Chordata Mammalia until they are separated by order, Humans being primates and Minks being in the order carnivora. It is because of their common roots that they have similar muscles types with similar functions, which help them survive and function throughout their individual habitats. Arm and Shoulder Muscles One of the most important muscles in both a mink and a human are those of the arms and shoulders because of their involvement with movement. One of the primal movers of arm abduction along the frontal plane is the deltoid muscle found in both minks and humans.
A Mink is a Carnivore found in many parts of the world. Two animals are branched out of the name “Mink”, there is the American Mink and the European Mink. The differences between these two animals include that the American Mink is larger in addition the difference can be seen in their skulls as the American Mink has a mandible that attaches to the rest of the skull differently than the European Mink allowing for greater range of motion ones it will bite. They are undervalued organs considering how essential they are for the body’s ability to maintain homeostasis. The kidneys filter about 120-150 quarts of blood to produce about 1-2 quarts of urine each day (NIH, 2014). Blood initially enters the kidneys through the renal artery. It then flows into the segmental artery before moving into the interlobar artery. From the interlobar artery the filtrate enters the arcuate artery before branching into the cortical radiate artery, which feeds into the afferent arteriole, before passing into the glomerulus where it begins to filter out waste. The filtered waste is then collected by renal tubule. The tubules drain to collecting ducts and all of these components together makes up a small unit called a nephron. Each kidney has over a million nephrons (Marieb, Blood Supply/ Nephrons, 2015). They filter out wastes that run through different body systems via blood; the majority of that waste is nitrogenous wastes, toxins, excess fluids, electrolytes, and drugs.
