The Profession of Arms is a literary summary to help the soldier understand what it means to be in an elite Profession. The Army is committed to maintaining a high level of professionalism. A soldier is required to have a unique work ethic. It is non-routine and is effective not efficient. There are certain characteristics a soldier must possess. Being a servant is the most important one. The military provides society with protection and safety. In order to provide protection, the military must earn trust through ethics which is the attribute of motivation and self-control. Our profession promotes special characteristics such as knowledge, honor and the valuable tool of camaraderie. Professionals must be able to determine their own destiny therefore realizing that this profession is a calling and not just merely a job that earns a paycheck.
The Army has a unique task that only military professionals possess. The use of lethal force separates this profession from any other ordinary job. Soldiers must obtain the readiness to kill and die for the beliefs and honor of this nation. There should never be a questionable moral implication to carry out the duty of this Profession of Arms.
