Testicles Facts You Don’t Know
The testicles are a very important part of the body and so is their well-being. As this month is dedicated to testicular cancer awareness, here are some facts about testicles that show their importance. You can also learn how to keep them healthy.
Even though cancer is more common among older people, testicular cancer can often affect younger men at the age of 15-35. Each year, nearly 4,000 men are diagnosed with testicular cancer in the US only. Nearly 400 of these cases end tragically.
A lump on the testicle that is not accompanied with pain is one of the most common signs of this disease. Other symptoms, which are less common, are: feeling of heaviness in the scrotum, discomfort and dull ache. If you experience any of these symptoms,

consult a doctor. Medical professionals recommend self-examination of the testicles at least once in a month. Here is how to perform testicles self-examination. • Perform the self-examination after a shower or a hot bath as the skin is more loose and relaxed then. • Place your thumbs on top of the testicles and the middle and index fingers underneath them.
• Try to find the soft rope-like structure called epididymis. It is located on the back of the testicles. The odd shape of this structure can often lead people to consider it to be an irregular mass on the testicles. However, if you locate this structure, you will spot an irregular mass more easily.
This self-examination of the testicles can save your life and it takes only a couple of minutes. If a testicle cancer is diagnosed in an early stage, the survival rate is 95%.
Even though you are aware that you should take care of your testicles, here are some other interesting facts that speak about the importance about these organs:
1. 200 million sperm cells are created each day by your testicles.
2. According to the size of the animal, the tuberousbush cricket has the biggest testicles of all animals. Its testicles make 14% of the cricket’s body weight.
3. The word avocado has its origin from the Aztec language and it means testicle. The word orchird is also derived from the Greek word for testicle.
4. Among the howler monkeys, those with deeper and louder voice calls have smaller
testicles. 5. The testicles are outside the body being very exposed. Yet, it is believed that this is because of the testicles’ sensitivity to temperature. Sperm survives best at temperature a bit lower than that of the human body. On the other hand, many mammals, including elephants, have their testicles inside of the body near the kidneys. 6. One sperm cell contains nearly 38 megabytes of data. An average ejaculation contains nearly 18 terabytes of data. 7. Male right whale’s testicles weigh 1 ton. They can produce nearly 5 liters of sperm. 8. A beer brewery in Iceland uses smoked whale testicles when brewing beer. 9. According to study, testicles contain 77% of all the proteins in the body. One thousand of these proteins are unique. In comparison, the brain has only 300 unique proteins. 10. In most men, the right testicle is larger and hangs higher. However, all testicles are different in size and hang at a different height.
The testes produce sperm and sex hormones, testosterone. Surrounding each testis is a coiled tube called the epididymis, which collects and stores sperm, very much similar to that of a human. Before ejaculation a seminal fluid is added by the seminal vesicles, to prevent the sperm from drying out.
Noticing a lump in the penis can be a frightening experience. Men are often concerned that they have developed a cancer. Cancer within the penile shaft is very rare indeed, while Peyronie's disease is by far the most common cause of such lumps. If you find a lump, it is important to seek prompt medical advice, but you should not be too fearful that a serious cause will be found
symptoms are not always present, you may be infected with gonorrhea and not know it. If present, symptoms may appear within 2 to 14 days. Fifty percent of people with gonorrhea show no symptoms. Men are more likely than women to show signs of infection. Gonorrhea in men can cause painful urination, creamy or green pus-like penile discharge, and testicular pain.
Prostate cancer has been the number one diagnosed cancer today. According to the World Health Organization, approximately one in every ten American men will develop prostate cancer during his lifespan. This cancer has been very common in the last few years. American Cancer Society reported over 200,000 new cases of prostate cancer. Huge number of population suffered severely. The prostate is significant for reproduction. It helps the substances that are involved in fertilization and transporting of sperm as well as survival. Prostate tumor is developed in the prostate gland, which is found in the men’s reproductive system. Prostate is the size of a walnut, which is located inferiorly in the penis and anterior to the rectum. It contains the connective tissue, which includes the glandular and fibrous tissues. This tumor starts to develop during their adolescent year due to the control of the male reproductive hormones. When the tumor starts to develop, it begins at the urethra, which is a tube that releases the urine from the bladder. The tumor is a slow development yet it is contagious to the other parts of the body, such as it does affect the pelvic bones, lungs, liver, and the lower vertebrae (Zenka, 2009).
Some risk factors cannot be changed such as age, race, and gender. A person 's risk increases as they get older. Approximately 1 out of 8 women are at risk of developing breast cancer are younger than 55. Approximately 2 out of 3 women are at risk of developing breast cancer who are older than 55 (American Cancer Society, 2014). To decrease this rate, women need more timely follow ups and access to high quality treatments (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015). Men can develop breast cancer, but this disease is more common among women than men. (American Cancer Society, 2015).
Testicular cancer is a type of cancer that develops in the male’s testicles first then spreads to other parts of the body. It most commonly spreads to the lymph nodes after it spreads throughout the testicles. Testicles are part of the male’s reproductive system that makes testosterone, the male hormone, and sperm. It is treatable and can usually be cured. The signs of testicular cancer are lumps, swelling, and pain in your testicles. You can check for these lumps yourself, but it is better and more important to check with your doctor for lumps annually. Testicular cancer isn’t caused by much, but there are some risks.

Women are most likely to get diagnosed with it in their forties and fifties while some may be diagnosed with breast cancer in their twenties, if they started their menstrual cycles at an early age like 14. Typically, men are diagnosed with breast cancer in their sixties or seventies. Historically speaking, breast cancer has been around for hundreds of years. Thankfully, the treatment has improved.
The male reproductive system is a set of organs that works together to produce sperm which will later in life fertilize females eggs. The testes are the most important part of the system because it produces sperm cells. It is similar and looks similar to ovaries of a female’s reproductive system because it also holds what they need to reproduce. Its job is to produce the sperm cells needed to reproduce. Due to hormonal imbalances the production of sperm cells may not even be possible in some males. Testosterone is the male the hormone that gives men there manly characteristics. It is made up of hydrogen, carbon, and oxygen with a white color. In the male body it helps develop sex organs, a deeper voice, and facial hair (Khalid, 2013). Cancer or a genetic disorder in males is the most common thing that cause the reductions of testosterone production in the body. Behind the testes is the epididymis which lets sperm go through the vas deferens from the testes (Dictionary, 2014). It looks like leach the way it is position right on the testes but it is thinner. When sperm is produces the ...
The human male reproductive system organs are located outside of the body around the pelvic region of a male (wikipedia, 2010). The testes produce sperm that would fertilize the female’s egg. Males have several secondary genitalia’s the penis, sperm ducts, epididymis, vas deferens and the urethra. The urethra is used for two purposes to urine and to ejaculate semen. Males also have accessory glands such as the prostate gland, seminal vesicles, and bulbourethral glands. The prostate gland contributes fluid for ejaculation. Prostate fluids helps to nourish the sperm (Web Md, 2009). The seminal vesicle makes up most of the volume of a man's ejaculatory fluid and provide the sperm with nutrients that give the sperm energy(Web Md, 2009). Bulbourethral glands produce a clear, slippery fluid that empties directly into the urethra. This fluid serves to lubricate the urethra ...
One battle that is not easy to fight, but winning the battle is worth it all is breast cancer. The reason I chose to write about breast cancer is because my aunt who means a lot to me was diagnosed with it a few years ago. Many people hear and discuss about breast, but they do not what it means and why it is important. When a tumor that is malignant is found in the cells in the breast and its spreads through the surrounding tissues in the breast is known as breast cancer. Most women are not usually alert if they have the disease because they do not know how to check for lumps in their breasts. Some do not even know the common symptoms for breast cancer. Most women do not know that can check for lumps in their breast by themselves by doing a self-examination. In the self-examination, the woman can wait until they are in the shower or while they are lying down. They can take three fingers and move it in a circular motion, gently around the breast and feel for lumps and knots. Women can squeeze each nipple lightly to make sure there is no discharge coming out during the self-examination. However, majority of women do have lumps in their breast, but it is normal.
It takes years for most women to be diagnosed with this mysterious disease, says Ghadir. Unfortunately, that's because the only definitive way to diagnose it is with a surgical biopsy of the tissue. Still, Ghadir urges women to tell their doctor if they have any of the symptoms: chronic pelvic pain, severe menstrual cramps, spotting before your period, painful bowel movements or urination especially during your period, and discomfort or pain during sex especially during deep
...urpose is to clean the urethra of harmful bacteria and other substances prior to ejaculation. The penis, not composed of muscle or bone, is the next step for the sperm. It’s three main purposes are to transport urine, transport semen, and to provide sensation. Inside the penis is the urethra. The urethra’s functions are to carry urine from the bladder to outside the body, and to ejaculate semen during sexual intercourse. The tip of the penis is called the scrotum, and it’s three main functions are to act as a thermometer for the testicles, protect and hold the testicles, and to provide various sensations.
...culatory system. Pituitary gland is a growth hormone that helps in mertabolism and develops reproductive organs. The thyroid controls metabolsim on the rate that the body breaks down food. Adrenal gland secretes many hormones including adrenaline which prepares the body to react in a stressful situation. The pancreas produces digestive enzymes and insulin. Ovaries produce ova and estrogen. Testes produce sperm cells and testosterone. To stay healthy you should get a regular medical check-up, eat a well-balanced diet, sleep at least 8 hours, and decrease stress in your life. Some problems are growth disorders, diabetes, and obesity. Puberty begins at different times for girls then boys. Girls start around ages 9-13 and boys are ages 10-15.
Another test for early detection of prostate cancer has been the digital rectal exam (DRE). Although DRE is a better method for early detection, it is also a hindrance among men, particularly African-American men, to screening and early detection (Plowden, 2009). According to American Cancer Society (ACS) and American Urological Association (AUA), the PSA and DRE should be offered annually for all men beginning at age 50 (Gray, 2009). However, they also recommend that African-American men with a family history of prostate cancer should begin testing by age 45 (Plowden, 2009). However, due to the cultural barriers to prostate screening such as lack of understanding, traditions, mist...
